Is that a muppet peering through the window? I cant work this one out at all, is it a residential home, I wonder? Clearly Im winning the 40 million on Friday. I have never been to St Johns Wood I think Paul McCartney lives there. Not in this house though https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/123301931#/?channel=RES_BUY

It's so quirky and interesting! Love it!

I can only imagine it hasn't sold because it is incongruous in that area. St John's Wood is one of the most expensive areas of London and those mansion block flats will be worth a fortune as well. But this house sadly just looks "in the wrong place".

Hallmark1234 · 06/04/2023 08:36

It is indeed a quirky house; in a good way, but the block of garages next to it would put me off. I wonder who they belong to and whether they are used?

I'm surprised they haven't been knocked down and a block of flats built there!

fairypeasant · 06/04/2023 08:40

It's fabulous. I love it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 06/04/2023 08:42

I love it, well maybe not the furniture, but the kitchen and bathroom and the garden. I just feel sad that in all likelihood someone will come along and make it yet another f&b clone.

No it's not a British thing - at least not in my four decades of being a Brit!

It was in the 1970s, as a child we even had 'washable' carpet in the kitchen.

These threads are so mean. Who lives in a place like this? It’s not hard to work out that the owner/s are older. Lots of the things in here are big standard of their time and even if they weren’t so what?
people starting threads like this should be required to put up photos of their own home.

A few people have said this but how is it really mean? Almost everyone is commenting on the property positively even if they are saying it is not to their own taste.

Stormydanielss · 06/04/2023 08:58

Ooh I'd be out having a coffee in that garden. It's a beautiful building and I don't mind some quirky decor

Instructionmanual · 06/04/2023 09:03

SoFED · 06/04/2023 08:24

It’s the sort of place I imagine Giles and Mary from Gogglebox living in.

I do wonder though when pollution might start affecting house prices, I’d just not want to live where the pollution is high.

Don't worry about that, look up ULEZ. The London Mayor is on a mission!
I can imagine that pretty soon it will be worse to live in a large town where traffic isn't regulated, or near to a motorway, than to live in London.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 06/04/2023 10:25

The mayor is confused. There is an incinerator being built in Edmonton just next to where the proposed ULEZ zone will be extended to. The ethical and pollution arguments there are a strange one.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 06/04/2023 10:26

In fact in Edmonton you will have to pay ulez to go to the local hospital. But incinerator good 👍🏻

Yes, it was. We had carpet in the bathroom in the 70s and 80s, and I can’t remember who it was but I did know someone who had carpet like in the picture, up the side of the bath. We thought it right posh.

when I bought my first house in 1989 we had that washable carpet put down in the kitchen, I loved it then. Had to buy a Vax carpet washer to clean it though, and you had to almost be Geoff Capes to move the vax washer head on it, the suction was tremendous!

Instructionmanual · 06/04/2023 15:42

We went and did a walk past earlier. I absolutely love the house, but unfortunately the location isn't right for us. I want to pick it up and move it. :-)

Hullothereitsme · 06/04/2023 18:04

@Kanaloa because there’s no guarantee that those who’ve replied will be nice. The intention was not to go ‘oh look at this lovely house’ it was to be snide. How would you feel if someone did the same to your home? I know I wouldn’t like it, just as others on her have said it’s upsetting to be on the receiving end of. Just unnecessary really.

Well I mean if everyone was saying it was nice/cool then I think I’d feel pretty okay about it really? I haven’t seen anyone saying snide things.

Hullothereitsme · 07/04/2023 08:36

But they could - and on most of these type of threads they do. This is unusual among the ones I’ve read. It feels unnecessary to me.

ComtesseDeSpair · 05/04/2023 18:07

Actually I think that’s a massive anglepoise lamp, not a hairdryer!

It’s an old fashioned hair dryer.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 07/04/2023 08:43

I want it! Except for the carpet in the bathroom, its cool!
Love eccentric grandparents chic, so its right up my street. St John’s Wood however is out of my budget!

the80sweregreat · 07/04/2023 08:46

The kitchen is a horrible colour.
It's obviously huge, but feels strangely small because of all the things in it just everywhere!
You'd need another half a million or more to change a lot of it I would imagine.
It looks lovely from the outside though and clearly in a des res area.

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/04/2023 09:01

The decor makes me think the owners' heyday was in the 70s. It's a beautiful house even if the decor and furnishings aren't to your taste.

EachandEveryone · 07/04/2023 11:14

I wonder what will become of the fish? Is there places you can take them?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 07/04/2023 11:29

The last owners of our house left the fish pond and a few fish ! We eventually had to re home them and they were fine , the man who took them was happy to have a few free fish and worked in the small pond industry
It was a worry though , making sure they had enough to eat and the upkeep of the pond and the pump.
I'm sure that these will be fine too if the owner leaves them there, but it's just something else to consider isn't it?
I'd definitely have to change that kitchen , it's very overwhelming.
It's all Way out of my price range though. Looks a nice area to live. I Wouldn't fit in there I'm sure.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 07/04/2023 11:31

Our bathroom suite is that colour previous owners fitted it sometime in the 70s and we've not got round to changing it. Hopefully it will be gone later this year.

the80sweregreat · 07/04/2023 11:48

I like the staircase. The nude lady painting is interesting : I'd have taken that down pre visits , but there you go.
It's a very mixed design.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/04/2023 12:05

Would you really @the80sweregreat ? I see nothing wrong with a well painted nude. We have a couple on the upstairs landing.

the80sweregreat · 07/04/2023 16:05

I just think I would have taken the picture down ! Although it doesn't offend me at all.
It must be lovely to have so much money to buy a house that size. How the other half live eh?
