I actually hate threads like this. My friend was selling her mums house after her mum died, it was quirky decorated but a much loved clean home and very to the persons taste. Anyway, that house too was put on a forum and made fun of and it really upset my friend.

I’m sure you wouldn’t like us roasting your decor OP.

I agree. My parents home is not dissimilar to this and I am going to have to see it one day. It would break my heart to think of their loved home being ridiculed.

I would buy that SJW house in a heartbeat. Sure, it could do with some updating but you just know it’s got the best structure and a beautiful vibe. The gardens pretty cool too.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 05/04/2023 21:44

*sell it

Rubyupbeat · 05/04/2023 21:45

My cousin has an apartment in that building next to it, I've always felt it's so out of place now and would have probably been in a lovely quiet and leafy street a hundred years ago.

I don't think I've ever seen an orange bathroom before!
Love the ghost outfit (vicar?)

I love the orange bathroom.
I think the whole house is loved and well kept by the owner.

Before central heating it would have been more comfortable to have carpet on the bathroom floor so most people did. Personally I can’t say I’ve ever noticed urine on my toilet or bathroom floor, and both are white so it would be noticeable.

I mean I have kids, one of whom had serious toileting troubles for years, so my bathroom floor has seen some bad times! I’m always glad it can just be sprayed and wiped or mopped! If you didn’t have kids it might not be an issue. I would just think the dampness from years in a bathroom could cause issues with a carpet? Maybe not though.

Why on earth is there wall-to-wall carpet in the bathroom? Is that a British thing? Think of all the years of urine spray collected around the toilet.

I moved into a new build about 16 years ago and we all sort of went round each others homes looking at what we had done with them

My neighbour has picked mahogany kitchen wall units (it's so dark!), carpet in the kitchen and carpet in every bathroom
I mean what do you do if you drop a bottle of milk and it must absorb all the cooking smells?!

IncessantNameChanger · 05/04/2023 22:40

Lovely! But unfrosted windows in the loo? Double aspect unfrosted?! Hmm, could not live with that

What crocodile? I've been through the photos 3 times not found a single croc!

There's a spotty dog in front of a window - what looks remarkably like a crocodile with open jaws is outside the window looking in...

The vast majority of comments have been very positive of this house. Yes some folks less so, but this property has certainly not been widely ridiculed.

That’s a bee in the window box, not a muppet. A big 🐝. A big cross 🐝

Mywardrobesareoak · 05/04/2023 23:49

Those poor poor fish in that tiny little pond, just cruel

SpikeWithoutASoul · 06/04/2023 00:41

I absolutely love it! A real home with history. A million times better than endless open-plan grey boxes.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/04/2023 06:15

Wondering now why it's with two agents. That usually means a property isn't selling. It's incredibly well located although situationally overshadowed.

I don't have a grasp of property prices in that area.

GoodChat · 06/04/2023 06:42

I think it's amazing. I'd love that house but I can never get my head around London prices. For that price where I am you could get a couple of acres and a 5 bed 3 bath.

Hullothereitsme · 06/04/2023 06:52

These threads are so mean. Who lives in a place like this? It’s not hard to work out that the owner/s are older. Lots of the things in here are big standard of their time and even if they weren’t so what?
people starting threads like this should be required to put up photos of their own home.

Talapia · 06/04/2023 07:04

It's so much lovelier than bland, boring grey, sterile houses that are fashionable now.
In 20 years time people will think, who in their right mind thought grey houses, in a country with grey sky looked good.

It's a well loved and lived in home. It's beautiful, it tells a story of love. Look at the dog, stuffed dogs on the chair, and the ornaments etc.

All I see is a lifetime of love. What's to mock in that?

hexsnidgett · 06/04/2023 07:05

I absolutely love it.

Vgt6y357 · 06/04/2023 07:17

I think it's so cruel to ridicule someone's home. I personally think it's a charming house and full of character. I bet the owners have lead interesting lives.

Marchforward · 06/04/2023 07:20

It’s just very dated with a couple of props thrown in so people will share it on the internet.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/04/2023 08:15

I have just googled. It's a lone house in "flatland" priced at about £2m above the price point the road.

It's on with three agents and was last reduced in October. Despite its charm, it hasn't exactly been snapped up.

Structurally it may not be as sound as it appears; neither has anyone suggested it is decluttered and "dressed" to sell which is customary for expensive properties. Neither is it on the market with high end agents.

I'd love to know the provenance of the owners who must have lived there for decades as there is no record of a previous sold price.

My initial instincts, I fear, were correct. It will end up going to developers for under £3m to be replaced with probably 6 flats, three stories which will all go for at least £1m.

Instructionmanual · 06/04/2023 08:16

I love it. Sure there are some things that I'd change and update a bit, but it has some lovely features. We're looking for something like this in London, but I think that the surroundings - mainly the small garden with car park behind - means it's not quite right for us.
Really tempted to look though, it's expected that the surroundings will be a bit busy in that area.

SoFED · 06/04/2023 08:24

It’s the sort of place I imagine Giles and Mary from Gogglebox living in.

I do wonder though when pollution might start affecting house prices, I’d just not want to live where the pollution is high.

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 06/04/2023 08:27

Wowee it's fabulous. The more you look the better it is. I love it.
You could spend hours going around it looking at everything. Fantastic

I don't think people are being horrible about it either
