Do you change your clothes when you get home after being on the tube or other public transport?

I never used to need to change clothes to sit on my sofa or whatever until I moved to London years ago. The tube is filthy! Now, it has become automatic habit to me to change into 'house' clothes when I get home - I don't live in London anymore but another large city where I'm on equally grotty public transport to get around. I really don't think this would have become habit if I was going from my home to my own car on a daily basis, instead of public transport.

Am I normal or a weirdo?

I used to, before I had DS and let all my standards slide. Now I often don't even need to change my work clothes because the ones that are comfortable and machine washable get chosen above the smarter dry clean ones.

One day I will get my standards back.

(It is looking increasingly unlikely.)

CambsAlways · 01/04/2023 22:57

Nope

massivenamechnage · 01/04/2023 22:58

So you all dry clean the coats that you are on the tube multiple times a week/day?

Bonkers!

Don't you give a shit for the environment?

I don't wash my clothes after a single wear so it doesn't impact my laundry.

So you go on the tube- in a coat for most of the year
Come home and change your clothes which have probably not been in contact with tube seat
But dont wash the clothes that you have removed but keep them for what? Until you go on the tube again?

Vargas · 01/04/2023 23:03

No never. I'm assuming you don't take the Tube to work!

PinkLemonadee · 01/04/2023 23:04

I put clean PJs on as soon as I get in.

Schmutter · 01/04/2023 23:04

No. That’s really weird.

But then I have flagrant disregard for guests wearing shoes in my house, which on MN is often seen as tantamount to starting the next pandemic.

Then when you go out again?
You go out in pjs or put your dirty tube clothes on?

PinkLemonadee · 01/04/2023 23:05

Though I don't typically use public transport - I just hate sitting around the house in outside clothes!

God- dont get started on shoes in the house and the whole class debate

BellaPiella · 01/04/2023 23:07

live in London and yes always change into indoor clothes. Shoes indoor? 🤮

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 01/04/2023 23:09

I always wash my clothes, coats included (none of mind need dry cleaning). The tube is disgusting, people are disgusting. I probably get the tube twice a year.

So I live in central London- I think I need to be bleached 5 times a day!

I hop on and off the tube and buses all day

Jeans or other trousers, I don't wash after every use, no. I wear them a few times, not directly day after day - I rotate a few items. They don't go back in the drawer once they've been worn.

Tops I do wash every wear, I should have clarified.

No I wouldn’t how would that even work? I’d change multiple times a day if I did.

i don’t think you can make a judgment on something you use twice a year.

DuesToTheDirt · 01/04/2023 21:41

No of course not. I don't want to call you a weirdo, but this is not normal behaviour!

Yes it is. The tube is disgusting. I’m from London and I’ve always changed after getting off the tube (not buses though).

OP you’ll probably need to wash your face more deeply too, tube air is gross and you can easily get spots.

NewNovember · 01/04/2023 23:16

No because that just gives American psycho vibes.

Moonshine5 · 01/04/2023 23:17

Of course

BlobLobIaw · 01/04/2023 23:18

I change from outdoor clothes to indoor clothes once I'm in for the evening. My kids do too. Not just a London Tube thing.

bignope · 01/04/2023 23:21

I always change when I get in but not because of public transport or being grubby I just want comfy clothes. I never wear jeans etc around the house, always tracksuit/pyjamas bottoms and maybe some shorts in summer.

tonyslab · 01/04/2023 23:21

Londoner here.

I wash my hands and will sit on the settee. Probably wouldn't get into bed tho .
