Do you change your clothes when you get home after being on the tube or other public transport?

I never used to need to change clothes to sit on my sofa or whatever until I moved to London years ago. The tube is filthy! Now, it has become automatic habit to me to change into 'house' clothes when I get home - I don't live in London anymore but another large city where I'm on equally grotty public transport to get around. I really don't think this would have become habit if I was going from my home to my own car on a daily basis, instead of public transport.

Am I normal or a weirdo?

I put my pyjamas on as soon as I get home from work etc as I'm comfy in them and hate sitting about in my uniform etc.

lljkk · 01/04/2023 22:06

No & this thread won't make me start, either.

That's fine as I'm not trying to convince anyone to do it!

Also, I don't care if anyone comes in and sits on my sofa in their tube garments. That doesn't bother me.

Yes I agree certain work or fancy going out clothes are far less comfortable as well, that feeds into needing to change clothes asap too.

I only ever go on trains rarely but when I do I always shower and change clothes. Public transport is very grubby!

Newtrix · 01/04/2023 22:13

Yes definitely. I always shower and change clothes after work too.

ClassicLib · 01/04/2023 22:15

No, but I do wash my hands. People are disgusting and so are the handles, handrails etc on public transport. 🤮

HydrangeaHo · 01/04/2023 22:15

I understand how you feel. On the rare occasion that I visit a city, London in particular, I can't wait to throw my clothes in the wash and have a shower. I suppose it's probably the only time I use public transport, hadn't made the connection until I read this.

thegrain · 01/04/2023 22:16

Yes I do

Karmakamelion · 01/04/2023 22:18

Always and normally will shower too. The tube is disgusting.

slightlysnippy · 01/04/2023 22:19

According to Mumsnet I'm as weird as you. 100's of peoples a day sit on tube seats, all with varying levels of hygiene standards, so I always change when I get home.

biancap26 · 01/04/2023 22:19

Yep, I do, shower and house clothes.

prescribingmum · 01/04/2023 22:23

Don't change clothes immediately but like a PP, I wash my hands thoroughly and wouldn't be sitting on my bed in clothes I have worn out all day (latter applies to days where I don't use public transport too)

I always change into "house" clothes as soon as I get home. Nothing to do with the Tube being filthy (and I do love the Tube and London in general). I just can't imagine being in "outside clothes" at home unless I was entertaining. I always wondered how people did it and whether they were actually comfortable...

I’m exactly the same. It’s always a tradition in our family to change from work/ school clothes into home clothes straight away. With my parents it was for financial reasons, they wanted to keep the best clothes for outside world. I do it mostly for comfort and cleanliness. We also don’t wear shoes inside.
I like clean and fresh environment around me, it’s not always possible but I do my best.

Aerielview · 01/04/2023 22:25

Didn't do it when I was younger, but now that I'm older and fussier, I do!

aramox1 · 01/04/2023 22:26

No. That sounds peculiar. I change after work to comfy clothes though

drinkingcream · 01/04/2023 22:29

Absolutely OP!!! I would never sit on my sofa with same clothes.

Exhausteddog · 01/04/2023 22:29

I often change into leggings or pyjamas because I find them more comfortable, DH nearly always puts joggers on for the same reason, nothing to do with it being dirty. I always wash my hands and cleanse my face when I get in though.

Clymene · 01/04/2023 22:30

No

Howandwhy · 01/04/2023 22:32

Yes we change into house clothes right away after coming in from work and school.

deltablue · 01/04/2023 22:50

No

WandaWonder · 01/04/2023 22:52

No because I don't want to endlessly wash clothes

massivenamechnage · 01/04/2023 22:53

I would be changing 5 times a day!

I do change multiple times per day sometimes! Not 5 though. But two or three.
