I’m which case hun it’s entirely reasonable to compare it with private sector which, on the same basis would be around 225 days pro rata over the year.

So nurses should also stop complaining about wages because really they're only part time, same as ambulance drivers, firefighters, oil rig workers, drs....anyone who doesn't follow a 9-5 pattern and does things like 3x12 hour shifts over the week.
They only work 141 days a year! (3x41 + 5 weeks holiday)

Loads of sectors! Have you ever worked outside of teaching?!

🤣

Botw1 · 30/03/2023 22:25

I did ask, but I'm not sure anyone has answered

How much do teachers think they should be paid for their 195 days?

So if there is no pay rise what will all the teachers do!? Quit??? I’m curious. As you said you have bills to pay etc so what will you do…..

Yes, teachers are quitting, leaving vacancies and classes who do not have a teacher.

What will the government do is the real question.

I do 100% think we need to improve conditions, I don’t think that’s in question. Teachers are having to do more with less funding than they used to.

Here’s the question, and I know the answer will be “both” but let’s assume that’s really not affordable.

If you’re a teacher would you rather your pay went up by eg 15%, or would you rather the resources you have available to you (largely driven by number of other staff) went up by 15% and therefore demand dropped proportionally?

It doesn’t feel like a 50/50 split of new funding would really make anyone happy or enough of a difference?

Oh, and anywhere else, being head of department would be your actual job. You wouldn't be doing the main job (to full time hours at least) plus leading a department.

Not at all true! You live with your head in the clouds. Totally the norm to be a head of a department while still carrying out your job.

If we all leave teaching what do you think will happen to schools, pupils….

I thought teachers had absolutely fantastic pensions...is that not correct? That counts for a huge amount (if correct)

As above, how much DO you think a teacher should be paid?

100% correct, and so often overlooked or misunderstood.

Kind of busts the theory that all teachers work 60-80 hours a week and no one else does any overtime though doesn’t it.

It must be your just theory, because who else claims that?

borntobequiet · 30/03/2023 22:33

Just your! Not your just.

Yes. I didn't enter teaching until my mid 30s. I took a pay cut to do so. But I was bored stiff in the corporate world. So much time wasted doing nothing.

Post a link to a single job advert for a deputy head of department in London, (requiring a degree for an entry level position) for 45k.

At the very least the same as teachers in Scotland. And probably a little more as cost of living is generally higher in England.

Itstarts · 30/03/2023 22:37

You've already worked it all out haven't you? 55k apparently.

Sherrystrull · 30/03/2023 22:38

Please tell me how you're supposed to be a head of department while teaching full time? I'm finding it impossible. I had to leave a lesson half way through with an LSA to sort out a staffing issue today. That happens multiple times a day.

Harveyhero · 30/03/2023 22:38

hows u

'And probably a little more as cost of living is generally higher in England.'

Really?

😂

Harveyhero · 30/03/2023 22:39

They’re expecting to do bigger all for corporate pay

Harveyhero · 30/03/2023 22:39

Bugger all

Botw1 · 30/03/2023 22:40

This thread is hilarious

First of all it's only teachers (and police) experiencing massive rises in housing costs and now the whole of England

😂
