So primary teachers
Secondary school teachers

Then quit and do a different job. All the teachers moaning and complaining, make changes, do something else if you’re unhappy!

Your kid now doesn't have a maths teacher and the school can't hire anyone to replace me.

Are you sure that's what you want to happen?

thousands upon thousands of teachers have done just that - to the point that most schools are now carrying vacancies which they cant fill

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 20:45

No schools I’ve heard of! And good for those quitting but there’ll always be someone else to take that job!

more than half, and there is no one to take their place- My last school is carrying three science vacancies, and 2 maths - there are children there who have not seen a qualified teacher in maths or science since September - not unusual. My current school is carrying one permanent science vacancy, and two in maths, one of which is temporary ( to cover my classes), and again, no applicants for temporary or permanent vacancies. It is the same all over our borough, and in the neighbouring boroughs.

Believe me, there are no applicants, either zero applications, or unqualified people applying,

Oh mate.

cantkeepawayforever · 30/03/2023 20:55

Just looked at a county-wide site advertising school vacancies. Ime over the last decade, 10-20 advertisements is normal.

Over 170 today.

Would you? Because if you do then please go ahead and look them up, they’re widely available.

Ahhhh....yes, the googling that means you know more than the people who actually see their own personal payslip every month.

FYI 195 days is the MINIMUM a full tim state school teacher can work. Not the average.

And that 30% additional pay from pension? Where the hell has that come from?????? I pay 9.6% of MY INCOME towards my pension (I believe that's fairly standard for TPS) and employer contribution is c.15%

I am paid for 32.5 hours per week, yet work around 60. So work nearly half for free. If you actually worked out that average workers 225 days in hours, would there actually be any difference between them?

I'm guessing that you neither watch the news, nor read a newspaper, nor follow the news online?

There are a huge number of unfilled teaching vacancies in the country. Schools are hemorrhaging teachers and there are none to take their place. Because people are not training to teach, and more than 30% of those who do only last two or three years in the profession.

Bless your innocence.

But seriously, wise up. Especially if you have children of school age or will do in the future.

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:03

Then STOP MOANING and find a new job. Re train, study, get a loan to do a masters or to specialise. Moaning won’t achieve anything!!!

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:04

I have decided not to have kids as this world costs too much nowadays and is stressful enough. Plus I couldn’t afford to even put 1 through uni yet alone more!!! So it’s pointless!!!!!!

Sherrystrull · 30/03/2023 21:04

It's not moaning. It's speaking the truth as we want better for ourselves and our children.

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:05

If you do then as someone very clever suggested beforehand move abroad where it seems teachers get paid more and quality of life is better!! Teachers can find jobs anywhere!

Actually, I care about the education available to all children in this country via the state school system and so I will not cease to point out that unless and until teachers have pay and conditions that lead them to remain in the profession long term, then education will suffer and thus the country will suffer.

If you choose to interpret that as moaning, that is up to you.

You must be a troll. You know that lots of us teachers have Masters degrees (and even higher), right? Doesn't earn you a penny more in teaching. And whilst I'm sure you'll just say "do something else then", I'd like to point out that we do need teachers, it's not like it's some frivolous job the country could do without. We aren't, I dunno, piercers or tattoo artists (nothing against those jobs, I just mean we could survive without them). If we don't have teachers we don't have anything else!

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:09

Actually no majority of teachers do not have masters!!!

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:12

There will never ever be a shortage of teachers as there will always be others to fill the role. Albeit candidates from abroad or those who enjoy teaching and aren’t fussed by the pay.

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:13

These conversations/debates always seem to happen here on MN. In my borough no schools have been on strike!

cantkeepawayforever · 30/03/2023 21:14

Nosey, sadly assertion does not make it so - and I presume that you are saying that any warn body us fine, with no thought as to qualification, training or quality?

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:15

In primary it’s def not as important

Schools haven't been on strike, teachers have been on strike. Specifically members of the NEU.

Noseydoll · 30/03/2023 21:16

Apologies no teachers in my borough have striked!

That's the thing, teachers have put up with the pay for so long because we enjoy teaching and aren't in it for the money - but we do need to eat and pay bills!
