If you could retrain as anything what would it be?

I’m 39 and self employed but I’m working in a dying industry. It’s got me thinking about retraining but I’m at a complete loss as what I could retrain as.
I have skills but suspect they are out of date now. I think I’d have to start from scratch which terrifies me.

I would do one of those Chandler type jobs that nobody quite understands, but I would inexplicably get paid a bunch of money. Mergers and acquisitions…not really sure what that is, but my lack of knowledge does not diminish my firmly held view I’d be amazing at it

I like the idea of being a physiotherapist. I did yoga and pilates teacher training (no longer teaching but may pick it up again one day) and found the anatomy side of it fascinating.

If I could turn the clock all the way back I'd have done a degree in something related to maths and/or physics and built a career around whatever bits of it I found the most interesting.

if you still want to write, you could consider Charity Fundraising. I’ve worked in International Development for years and the fundraising roles are mostly grant applications which all need writing skills to be convincing - basically about communicating the issue, need and proposal well, and depending on the fundraiser more or less emotively. The large statutory grants require substantial applications which normally take about a month to write and need to be very well written. And there’s always a shortage of good fundraisers.
