Does anyone have one and would you recommend? I was thinking of getting one for reminding me to take exercise et cetera.

If you do have one and like it, which model do you have.

Thank you

I have one. I love it and couldn't be without it. However... I would never recommend one. The battery life is exceptionally poor. If you do exercise you won't get a full day. Now it's old, if I do a morning gym session, I need to charge it after. I'm unable to monitor my sleep as it's charging. New ones do have fast charging which changes this.

You're much better off with an actual Fitbit or farming watch but if you're superficial like me to for an Apple Watch with a watch like strap from Amazon.

TakeMyStrongHand · 26/03/2023 17:39

Garmin not farming.

PriamFarrl · 26/03/2023 17:40

I have one and have had them since the very first one. I love it. I love getting texts even when my phone is in my bag. I use it to track workouts and my steps during the day. I’ve used it to make phone calls before.

DH has even more reason to love his. Just before Christmas he was ill with something not unlike Covid (but it wasn’t Covid). One morning his watch flashed up the he was having atrial fibrillation and he should go straight to the hospital. He checked it a couple of times with the ECG built in and each time it said that he should seek medical attention.
So off we went to A&E. In casualty he explained at triage that he watch had said this and they wired him up to their machines. As soon as they got the readout they ran him straight into resus and filled him full of medication to regulate his heart.
Had his watch not given him that warning we would have had no idea anything was wrong until it was much more serious.

TheGoldfinches · 26/03/2023 17:40

I like the idea of one (and I'm an Apple user generally) but I'm put off by the rubbish battery.

My watch is a Garmin. Great for tracking exercise and battery lasts for days and days. I can't be arsed to charge a smart watch every night, even though I'd love an Apple Watch.

llamazoo2 · 26/03/2023 17:41

I superficially like the look of them and think having quick access to texts and calls would be handy. In reality it would end up in a drawer in our house

GrinGrin superficial like me. It's like you know me!

Glad your DH is ok. Feel like I should get DH one

I was just about to buy one but am a bit worried about the battery life comments. Do they really need charging every day?

VenAqui · 26/03/2023 17:49

I love mine. I charge it every other night but it charges super quickly

Yes. I’ve had several now. I generally charge it overnight, or if I’m using it to track my sleep, then I’ll pop it on charge when I’m getting ready for bed, reading etc and it’s charge in 20 minutes or so.

Michellebops · 26/03/2023 18:00

Ive had the same one for 6 years and never without it. I love it 😍

TakeMyStrongHand · 26/03/2023 18:01

@PriamFarrl do you use the fast charger?

I'm thinking of upgrading but can't really justify the additional cost for a few extra features. I have series 4.

I charge mine every night - the charger is on my bedside table, so I just take it off when I get ready for bed and pop it on for the night. It's usually about 40-50% charged at night when I take it off. I wouldn't want to wear it overnight anyway, so that works for me. It's a series 4, getting on three years old, and never runs down during the day.

Whatadayyyy · 26/03/2023 18:09

I had one, I loved it but it stopped working a month after the warranty finished. Took it to the apple shop and they wanted to charge me nearly £300 to have it sent away and fixed. The guy said I would be as well just buying a new one. I don’t have the money for fixing it or getting a new one so it’s in a drawer. Gutted

Sweetladyjane · 26/03/2023 18:10

I love my Apple Watch. As others have said it’s great being able to get calls and messages on it when my phone has to be away at work - I have it on silent and can see if it’s the school calling and excuse myself from the meeting.

I also use it to track my exercise and find the little prompts during the day to check my rings or to stand up and move useful.

I wear mine and night and leave to charge for 20 mins or so in the morning whilst I shower and get dressed.

I just use the normal charger. No idea what version I have, but it’s fairly recent.

Quisquam · 26/03/2023 18:23

I have a Series 6 and I love it! I have Pacer on mine to count steps. I use the timer for cooking all the time. Knowing when it’s sunset and what the weather is, are really handy for us, as walking in the countryside is a major hobby. DH has a dodgy heart, so if he’s walking on his own, it reassures me, that it can detect him falling, and alert emergency services as to where he is! Also, if he has chest pain, it could detect atrial fibrillation.

As pp have said, charging takes less than an hour!

scoutcat · 26/03/2023 18:35

I have one.. I have had it over 3 years now and it's not a fancy one but my battery is ok! It always lasts until I go to bed (or I'll get the "charge before bed" just before I go to bed) - even if I've done two long walks on the school run or used it to send texts etc.

Yes it needs charging every day but so does my phone and I have one of those charging pads for my phone/watch on my bedside table. My husband wears his to sleep so he can track his sleep and he charges it for 10 minutes on a morning and then also in the evening once he's completed all his goals. Love them!

TokyoSushi · 26/03/2023 18:40

I absolutely love mine, it's 'just' an SE but it does everything I need.

It's fine for fitness, I think if you were a serious fitness person looking for stats and the like then you'd be better with something like a Garmin, but for the average person it's completely fine.

I absolutely love the text, email, notification features, plus it feels lovely on, like it's not there at all!

The battery life probably is quite short but I just put it on charge next to my phone each night and that works perfectly for me, it does charge very quickly though.

SeasonsBleatings · 26/03/2023 18:43

I've got an SE and wouldn't be without it! I especially love the sleep tracking feature, tracking my activity, getting message notification, and checking the weather with a glance at my wrist.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 26/03/2023 18:52

I’ve got an SE. I wasn’t sure I’d love it because although a walk a lot with the dogs I’m not an exercise person but it’s so useful.
Some of the features I love are -

Being able to check my texts at work at a glance. I’m not able to have my phone out much so just checking it’s not an important message is so useful.

The sleep monitoring makes me much more motivated to strive for better sleep.

You can pause your phone from your watch so if I’ve got my phone on the side with a podcast playing I can pause/skip etc without having to get my phone.

Morning alarm vibrating on my watch is very effective but more gentle. Less likely to wake DH.

Apple Pay on it is so useful. No more digging in my pockets/handbag for my phone or purse.

It has a button that makes your phone play a noise which is brilliant when your phones gone on a deep dive down the back of the sofa cushions.

It’s not life changing and I wouldn’t scrimp and save to afford it but if you can comfortably it’s nifty and helpful day to day. Oh and I just charge mine when I’m in the shower and getting dressed and it’s a-ok.

YomAsalYomBasal · 26/03/2023 19:03

I love my Apple Watch. I do charge it every day but for 20 mins while I shower and get dressed etc which doesn't seem too bad to me.
I use the ping my phone function all the time.
It does make me motivated to hit my fitness goals , and I have a friendly (ish) fitness competition going with my brother as I can see his stats too.
Love being able to pop out without my phone knowing that I can still take calls from the dcs schools etc.

happinessischocolate · 26/03/2023 19:05

I'm looking at getting one.

Does anyone have a cellular one, so you don't need to have your phone with you? It's an extra £60 but it would be even more convenient, if the extra phone plan doesn't cost too much
