Does anyone have one and would you recommend? I was thinking of getting one for reminding me to take exercise et cetera.

If you do have one and like it, which model do you have.

Thank you

I’ve had the original , SE and now 8 and I still wouldn’t recommend it specifically for exercising. I’ve preferred the Fitbit for that.

OurChristmasMiracle · 26/03/2023 21:42

I have a series 3 at the moment and have had it for over 3 years. I love my watch and can’t be without it now! I previously had a Epsom pulsesense and it died on me so I treated myself as I had just split up with an ex and saved myself a whole load of money on his birthday so spent some of it on me!

I will shortly be upgrading to a newer version but i am still debating between a 7 and an 8 or waiting til September and see the specs on the 9/ wait for the price to drop on the 8.

I'd love one but they seem so enormous. I have teeny tiny wrists and I just don't think I could fit one on tbh.

There are two sizes. The smaller should be fine for delicate wrists.

Sweetladyjane · 26/03/2023 22:53

You can buy smaller straps from eBay that fit tiny wrists. The apple strap is too big for me so I have a Velcro one that fits perfectly.

SeasonsBleatings · 26/03/2023 22:56

I have small wrists. I bought the 40mm face and got used to it in no time.

Twopoodlesarebetterthanone · 26/03/2023 23:28

I love mine. You can also pay for stuff on your card in it so don't need to have anything else with you popping to the shop.

DemonSpawn · 26/03/2023 23:47

I got one when they first came out. After a few years the battery went down so i got it replaced and then it was fine again, recharged every night battery lasted each day including a good 45 minute workout each day. Loved it.

Recently got a new one and it is so much better in every way - would not be without it. It tracks my sleep and then when I wake up I let it charge for about an hour on a morning then it’s fine for the rest of the day including a workout and that nights sleep again. Love it.

mellowmelon · 27/03/2023 00:31

I could not live without mine but I lose my phone all day long and use it to find wherever I've left it and that's the main reason why...

mellowmelon · 27/03/2023 00:31

I saw a cardiologist yesterday, when we were talking about my heart rate during exercise he said that watches, Apple and others, weren’t that accurate on heart rate.

That's true and is worse when exercising. They are accurate for the ecg... apparently.

I have compared my watch heart rate while being hooked up to a monitor at a hospital and they were around the same when sitting. I believe when exercising they are up to 50% out.

They also overestimate calories burnt. My watch is always double the treadmill or cross trainer but matches the tower.

Helenloveslee4eva · 28/03/2023 07:28

Had a series 3 for 5 yrs. it had only just started not doing a full day after a nights charge and want brilliant at things like speech recognition.

just over a week ago replaced it with a series 8.

battery life is excellent. I can now charge it whilst I’m in the shower in the morning and too it for for a bit whilst I’m getting ready for bed / settling down and then put it on for the night.
it would do 24 hrs now but obv it’d need a longer charge time.

it’s doing everything so much better than the old watch - tracking exercise , sleep , calls , sending short dictated texts etc. I also have the face set up differently and I can access my favourite functions eg weather and timers from the main view.

also the buckle free loop band is so comfy. I worried that I’d notice the slight increase in weight but I forget it’s there

Zoopyloo · 28/03/2023 07:57

Love mine, I charge it when I’m in bed. Also, Apple Pay is really handy, I rarely have to get my purse out and it’s very helpful when I’ve gone out without my purse as I’m still able to buy things.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 28/03/2023 08:15

I love my SE although I wish the battery life was better. It definitely motivates me to move more. I'm currently on a 4 week streak and I really don't want to break it!

xogossipgirlxo · 28/03/2023 10:04

I got 8 series cellular for my birthday. It's excellent, my favourite thing is activity circles 😂Also, I never hear my phone ringing. I don't even need phone to leave house as I'm still able to call or text. Also it saved my ass few times when I forgot my wallet and had basket full of shopping.

EspeciallyDedicated · 28/03/2023 10:18

I've got an SE, it's about 3 years old, I charge it overnight. I use it all the time for Apple pay, tracking exercise and steps, checking messages, taking calls through my airpods, controlling whatever I'm listening to while out walking or doing stuff round the house without my phone to hand, use the timer multiple times a day. The fall reaction does work, I got tangled up in a tight top the other day and pushed hard into the sleeve which came loose, my arm shot out and it set it off.

One of the best things is when you are out walking and using apple maps, you can put your phone away and the watch guides you with gentle vibrations and a little map and arrow on the screen.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/03/2023 10:34

Life changer - DH and I got ours for Xmas 2019 and they were great for keeping us motivated to stay fit.

Battery isn't an issue. I regularly do an exercise session at home and then a decent walk, and it's still got quite a bit left when I put it on its charger overnight. DH likes to monitor his sleep (and also has the one that does a fibrillation alert as he has AF) - he just charges his when he's in the bath and then watching TV in the evening for a bit,

My only gripe is that it can fail to notice I've been standing up doing cooking or other housework, it needs you to wave your arms around.

Walkingbacktohappiness · 28/03/2023 10:37

Interesting. My DH saw a cardiologist yesterday and he was very interested in seeing the ECG we'd done using my watch, and recommended my DH buy himself one.

EspeciallyDedicated · 28/03/2023 11:13

Oh, one thing I don't like, is that when I am crocheting it counts all the wrist movements as steps. my old fitbit didn't do that. Pretty trivial though, I just try and remember to take it off.

LancreWowhawk · 28/03/2023 11:26

I have a series 5. It's 3 years old. I love it! If it broke, I would replace it immediately.

I don't have a particular issue with battery - yes, it needs daily charging, but it never runs out over the course of a day. I certainly don't need to charge it after every gym session! I charge mine overnight, but a full charge from almost zero takes less than an hour. It's fine for me, I don't like wearing it overnight anyway. Apparently, the batteries can be changed fairly easily and cost effectively if they do become unreliable - or so DH tells me, anyway, I haven't actually checked this out myself. Another trick is to completely reboot it. This shuts down any apps that are pulling on the battery, and in my case instantly made everything last a bit longer.

My only gripe is with straps. I have the original Nike-issue one on mine, which is silicone with perforations. This works brilliantly in terms of practicality - I can work out with it, get it wet, no trouble at all. Plus the perforations mean ventilation, so I don't get a rash underneath it (which was an issue with the silicone straps I used to have for my fitbit). However - it just doesn't look very smart. And I can't seem to come up with a solution that will be as practical as what I have and that looks nicer - because I, too, am part of the superficial club!

Southeastdweller · 28/03/2023 11:31

I think I'm going to have one based on comments here, plus knowing I won't have to faff around anymore getting my iPhone out of my bag to pay in shops.

The maps thing alone might persuade me to buy one!

Yes, I feel much happier navigating my way round town and city centres without having to have my phone in my hand.

I have one and have had them since the very first one. I love it. I love getting texts even when my phone is in my bag. I use it to track workouts and my steps during the day. I’ve used it to make phone calls before.

DH has even more reason to love his. Just before Christmas he was ill with something not unlike Covid (but it wasn’t Covid). One morning his watch flashed up the he was having atrial fibrillation and he should go straight to the hospital. He checked it a couple of times with the ECG built in and each time it said that he should seek medical attention.
So off we went to A&E. In casualty he explained at triage that he watch had said this and they wired him up to their machines. As soon as they got the readout they ran him straight into resus and filled him full of medication to regulate his heart.
Had his watch not given him that warning we would have had no idea anything was wrong until it was much more serious.

I had the same thing - my apple watch alerted me to a very high heart rate (150bpm) & atrial fibrillation 1.5 years ago, straight to A&E resus & drugs to lower heart rate & prescribed regular ongoing medication to prevent a stroke & control my heart rate. Have since had surgery & so far so good
