And I just ran away...
I did not handle it in a mature manner or alert anyone to it. So those poor cafe staff are just going to come across a big pool of blood.
Luckily it was a plastic coated sofa/bench type seat so I imagine they will be able to clean it easily.
I didnt notice until id stood up to leave and glanced back to see if id left anything at the table.. and the cafe was full so it would've been very obvious if id walked back and started cleaning it. And I realised I must also be drenched in blood so I just ran away...
I ran away, I ran all the way home.
I feel bad. I shouldve acted like an adult and just taken the hit and walked back to the sofa to clean it.
Its my local cafe as well and I go in there alot and they will know I was the one sitting there...
I can never go in there again can I?
I'm 35 years old. I also had like a full night time sanitary towel on that id literally only just put on fresh so I do not know how that happened.... I just gushed so much blood everywhere suddenly... I kind of felt it happen but thought it was fine, didnt realise how much there was and that it had soaked thru everything!! Grim.

So sorry that this happened to you.

It used to happen to me a lot when I had fibroids. It was so embarrassing. I couldn't go anywhere without flooding. In the end I had to have a myemectomy to get rid of them. Go to your GP and get checked out.

Don't be embarrassed. Go back to the cafe and speak to the manager discretely and tell them that you are sorry you had to flee but that you had a medical emergency.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 21/03/2023 12:45

I would wear period pants as well as a towel until you see the gp.

janiefree · 21/03/2023 12:47

Just assume miscarriage and clean it up? Really @DaveyJonesLocker

I agree that the staff will be poorly paid and poorly equipped to deal with cleaning blood at those levels.

@WhatInFreshHell yeah I do regret it. I did pause and think about getting some loo roll and trying to clean it but the cafe was so crowded I just bottled it and ran away.. I didnt know how visible the blood was on me and all the tables were full and I just couldn't bring myself to walk back over there.
It was the wrong choice tbh coz I might never see those people on the other tables again whereas that's my local cafe I always go in so very likely I'll see those poor girls who had to clean that up again..
I'm gonna drop a tenner tip round when I've sufficiently got over the embarrassment

Don’t beat yourself up over it. You were in shock. You feel bad and have come to a forum to admit what happened. You’re not a bad person, just had a bad experience 💐

Agoraphobia · 21/03/2023 11:41

ive had this happen to me a few times i went to my gp all was good . first time was in toys r us years ago felt it coming down my legs i ran to the loo . second time was in mcdonalds i sneezed and gave birth to a large jelly fish it was all over the seat had wrap my coat around me and my friend at the time sat beside me as i got up she put her news paper on the seat to cover quick we left fast.lol

You just left it covered with a newspaper instead of getting one of the infinite napkins in Macdonalds and cleaning it up? Thats how the post reads and if so you're fucking disgusting.

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 12:50

@Trez1510 would you be happy for your daughter to recieve a horrible message like this if she sought support online after something like this happening to her?
We all make mistakes. I just panicked. I think going back and leaving a big tip for them is fine actually. The sofa was plastic coated so whilst yes, it is grim and I should have cleaned it myself.. all it will take is some plastic gloves, a spray of antibac and some blue roll to sort it. They arent going to need it specially cleaned or anything.
I hope you are more supportive if this happens to one of your girls coz its pretty mortifying and shocking especially if its never happened to you before.

I work in a hospital and you are being a bit ott about blood here. 'Inherent risk' literally all you need is a pair of disposable gloves... I hadn't cut an artery ffs its just a pool of blood about the size of the base of a cup. Grim yes and I totally made the wrong choice in running away... but its not going to endanger anyone. Take a few seconds to clean. I shouldve done it myself would've been easy.. was just the shock and embarrassent made me make a bad decision

Your health is far more important than a sofa. I'm so sorry this happened to you! Please do see a GP. It could be a fibroid, which is a NON-cancerous growth in the uterus: I had one and it caused exactly this kind of heavy bleeding all through my 40s. They can be detected with ultrasound. I hope you're okay x

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 12:55

@MustTryHarderAndHarder yes I will do. Just didn't expect that. Like I said I was wearing a freshly put on night time absorbancy towel.. really did not think I could bleed thru that. But I know better now!!

OP posts:
houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 12:56

@DeathBy1000PipeCleaners yeah that was another thing google said.. and my mum had fibroid at this age I remember.. but I havent had any pain or anything like that. Im definitely going to make a gp appointment now tho

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 11:49

@custardbear yes I will do. I've been having random bleeding in between periods for the last few months.. not very heavy but still unusual for me.. so maybe there's something gone on with me

I was like that and it was due to fibroids. I ended up having a hysterectomy at 45.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 21/03/2023 12:59

I had this happen to me before I had an endometrial ablation. Luckily it was on my own sofa, but don't feel bad about running away as it's natural to want to sort the flooding quickly
Don't feel embarrassed but do ring the cafe, tell a little white lie and say you got home, realised you were bleeding so heavily that you may have left evidence on the sofa
As you're a regular and want to save face, I'm sure they'd welcome your honesty
Do go to the doctors and ensure you state just how heavy you're bleeding.

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 13:00

@CaptainMyCaptain did you get any pain? I havent had any pain at all.. have been very tired

Bluebellsarebest · 21/03/2023 13:01

I can understand and would have done the same as you, but please don’t worry about the staff, they will deal with much worse! And they’ll understand, the girls/women will anyway.

DaveyJonesLocker · 21/03/2023 13:03

Yeah I think I'd think "oh my god that poor woman." Can you imagine a woman covered in blood herself helping someone clean up her blood in a busy cafe. God the humiliation. Its just blood. Wipe it up, spray some antibacterial, wash your hands.

If I'd have seen a woman get up and her backside was covered in blood I'd have discretely told her, Sent her to the toilets to clean herself while I get stuff off the staff to clean the chair for her. Like not even working there.

And I don't even consider myself a nice person. I'm autistic, I don't get Social queues and all that shit but even I can tell how humiliating that would be.

Cancer Season GIF

Hey hun x

A similar thing happened to me a few weeks back whilst I was casually shopping in my local ASDA for a few bits and bobs when all of a sudden I had this huge leak of blood slosh. I never have heavy periods so was unsure why all of a sudden this would happen. So I was advised by a friend of mine to go to the doctors so I did

To conclude I was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer x

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/03/2023 13:05

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 13:00

@CaptainMyCaptain did you get any pain? I havent had any pain at all.. have been very tired

I had period pains but not excessive. The fibroid was large and pressing on my bladder so I needed to wee quite often. I needed to use a large tampon and a pad and could start bleeding at odd times. After the hysterectomy I felt so much better - it was life changing.

Agoraphobia · 21/03/2023 13:08

when i said we left fast i went to the loos and for your imfo my friend did tell staff she put the news paper down to just avoid more shame for me i was 17 it was the 80s then. lovely staff lady came and tidied up she told my friend not to worry but was i okay i was mortified sitting in the cubical . yes im disgusting 🙄

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 13:08

@CaptainMyCaptain ill ask them about fibroid. My mum did have fibroids at my age so its a possibility.

Itsneverwhatitseems · 21/03/2023 13:08

I completely understand why you ran away. Don’t feel bad about it.
I would see your doctor though, gushing blood sounds like a lot.
I doubt this is unusual, lots of women get caught out when they are out and about.

eglantine7 · 21/03/2023 13:08

You could have fibroids which become common as we get older. I highly recommend the mirena coil which helps shrink and reduces your bleed. It does take a couple of months to settle and you may bleed longer like I did and then once settled its brilliant. I never have pain or heavy periods.

Unfortunate, but true.

There are a lot of these types around on this site of late.

I'd rather share & support than worry about if someone sick guck gets off on it or not! So what if they do really?!

@houseeveryweekend

Don't send your DH in & not go again! Just take a bunch of flowers ( needn't be expensive!) and say 'sorry you hadn't realised until you got home' then put £10 in the tips jar yourself.

Otherwise you're stopping yourself going somewhere nice & they're getting less custom, that's not a good outcome for anyone. I'm sure many of them have had similar experiences.

It could be peri or a number of things, my peri stage was dreadful!! (I only wore dark bottom halves) & checked things out when standing up.

Younger (20's) staff have had 'incidences' similar & say it's not unusual for them.

wont hurt to see your GP though, but try not to worry.

it shouldn't be, but it is, embarrassing at the time, but just go back, apologise & keep going to the nice cafe 🌷

houseeveryweekend · 21/03/2023 13:10

@Agoraphobia ignore people being nasty. Clearly this hasn't happened to some people ever before. You were just a teen and putting newspaper down means no one else would accidentally sit in it which is considerate.. more than my just running away! Its difficult to know what to do when you panic in the moment. I do wish I'd just grabbed some loo roll and cleaned it up now.. but you just get white noise in your mind sometimes! Even as a grown woman!

YukoandHiro · 21/03/2023 13:11

Sorry this has happened. Bleeding between periods is always important to investigate OP. Please make an appt with the dr.

Cocosmos · 21/03/2023 13:12

God there are some horrible twats on here that clearly are absolutely perfect. Absolute twats.

Poor you OP. Anyone would have been mortified! I would have run off too, human instinct! Going in to apologise will just serve to embarrass you further and won't help them, I would send an anonymous apology though to make myself feel better! Card/flowers maybe. Don't stew on it, we can't help being human xx

MakeupTable · 21/03/2023 13:13

Mirena coil changed my life. I’ve always had terribly heavy periods. I have endometriosis and I was checked for fibroids but luckily none were found.
