Is it spider season again?

We had absolutely loads of those giant spiders in my house in autumn. Then one day they just buggered off and I haven't seen one since. Until today...I have spotted no less than 5 spiders in my house! Not the giant ones but fair sized! Where have they come from? What do they want? Does anyone else have them? How can I get them to go away?

Oh dear I hope it's not a bedbug!

I caught it and dropped it out of the window, the room is on the 14th floor, so I think I'm safe for now......

Ronnie2022 · 20/08/2023 20:14

Massive spiders here in house again now

  • surely eat it for it ? So scared ! P feel like I can tho to bed !!
BlowMyBubbles · 20/08/2023 20:20

Yes! Was literally gonna start a thread to see if spider harvest had started early. Was putting dc2 down last night when a fucker came stomping and dc1 woke in the night screaming about one on his pillow. Took me 20 minutes to find it and relocate it to the shed. I've topped the room today and no sign of life from the fuckers. Where are they coming from?!

WitheringTights000 · 20/08/2023 20:22

One on the stairs last night....sorry 3am! I can't stand this time of year I fear it so much 🥹

Mummyme87 · 20/08/2023 20:23

Urgh yes, massive one on my wall last night and another big fucker above my curtain!
big hairy ones aswell. Can’t stand them

Ronnie2022 · 20/08/2023 20:24

I just don’t know. Are they always in the room and then just become more visible ? I had to sleep in dd room last night but she is back tonight so back in with the spider !!

I’ve put my sonic plug thing on hoping it someone will send it away !

Ronnie2022 · 20/08/2023 20:24

They seem bigger each year ! I swear they stare

WitheringTights000 · 20/08/2023 20:25

@Ronnie2022 - I think they generally come out at night? Early hours of the morning? Cause you don't see them generally during the day

JMSA · 20/08/2023 20:27

I am currently cohabiting with a TARANTULA. Or the British version at least. I hate killing them and always rescue, but can't bring myself to get too close to this one. I've had a word with him though, and I think he's gonna stay out of my way.

Yes it’s spider season. End of august to mid October. I feel guilty saying this for anyone going through it but I sold my house and moved elsewhere, I’m not joking, because I couldn’t handle the spiders. I went for hypnotherapy and all sorts and nothing worked. It was so bad I actually got a taxi to my mum’s house with my toddler and the dog at 3am because of a massive spider, they were everywhere, floor dwellers apparently, so big they could hardly haul themselves up the wall. I threw a Yellow Pages (shut up, I’m old) on one and it came out from under it! Been in my current place for 9 years and nothing! Nothing! I still check the bath etc come august but omg it’s bliss!

omg yes - I never had them in my old house just this one ! Well I never saw them!

what makes one house have them but not another ???

WitheringTights000 · 20/08/2023 21:33

@jays- do you live in a new or old house? My house is very old but I only see them during spider season

Ronnie2022 · 20/08/2023 21:34

What are floor dwellers ? They live in the floorboards
all the time. Omg 🤮

justmyluck1234 · 20/08/2023 21:34

I've found a fair few big ones... however I have found them dead which is strange...

Ronnie2022 · 20/08/2023 21:34

My house is a new build that’s what I don’t get ! bUT it’s right next to farmland and a massive forest maybe that’s why ?!

Wish that was the case here !

RosaGallica · 20/08/2023 22:05

Theyve been starting for a few weeks. Yes it’s always August. I quite welcome them because I hate the flies, and I think that’s what drives the timing. We have some spider eggs and little baby ones on the plants. 🙂

JMSA · 20/08/2023 22:34

Umm, some of you are going to hate me for mentioning this. But a few years ago, in her old house, my mum was going upstairs to the bathroom. She stopped short on the way up because, there on the stair, was a SPIDER ORGY going on!! There were loads of them, all writhing around on the stair.
She's never got over it!

bladebladebla1 · 20/08/2023 22:38

Why the fuck did I open this thread

was an old house and I’m in an old house again but the last one had a massive basement and I’m sure they were all coming from down there. Oh it’s horrible! I hate even thinking about it!

Ronnie2022 · 21/08/2023 10:08

My room is above the garage ! I may swap rooms actually with my daughter (who isn’t scAred of hem!)

Are you sure it's not just the spiders shell you've found? They cast off their exoskeletons and leave them lying round the place.

There are 2 slider seasons, now and March/April.

this is a zombie thread from March.

SpaceRaiders · 21/08/2023 22:26

I’d need a tone of conkers to have any chance of keeping them away from mine. My Dyson is a spider grave yard, I’ve hoovered loads of the adult spindly ones this week. I really need to keep on top of it if I’ve any chance of disrupting their mating cycle.
