Have we gone mad or is this appropriate?

Beer you cba to read the ops posts

Funny how motherless children were never such a big thing of concern until "pregnant people" came along

What utter bullshit

Rainbow03 · 17/03/2023 17:10

I wouldn’t bother trying to get into arguments or discussions with others who have disordered thinking. Trying to understand crazy only drives one crazy.

@Middletoleft What is the child without a mother supposed to do on Mother's Day then? Make a card to a non-existent person? Sit and suffer upset for the 'majority?' I really cannot believe Mums can be so crass. Do you have any idea how hurtful this all is to a child who has to suffer every day of its life? It's pure agony.

@happyinherts well, yes actually. You want to change things for the minority is that right.

It sounds harsh I know but you can't keep all of the people happy all of the time. Life isn't kind.

Comedycook · 17/03/2023 17:11

Life isn't kind

I am so sorry that happened to you, proves how cruel teachers can be.

They do it now this way because it suits the political agenda of activist Teachers trying to control social norms, they will manipulate anything, as it clearly works. The agenda is to eradicate family, traditions and history.

They want to throw everything out with the bathwater and start again, conserve nothing, they deem your children as theirs - to promote their world views - that is why they call you breeders!

Complete bollocks. It's teachers trying to avoid the kind of upset you quoted ffs.

Loveyoutomatoes · 17/03/2023 17:12

It's a fecking joke.

happyinherts · 17/03/2023 17:12

@Middletoleft - If you haven't read the thread, I WAS that child. My experience is of THAT child. I will never be able to remove myself from the trauma.

Comedycook · 17/03/2023 17:13

But a child who lives happily with its mum isn't going to feel upset if the school doesn't call it mothers day. There's no upset caused to that child.

zaffa · 17/03/2023 17:13

Zipps · 17/03/2023 11:55

I actually agree on this one. It stops kids living in foster families, in care, with grandparents or with two dads not feeling left out. Not everyone has a wonderful loving mother either.

Me too

happyinherts · 17/03/2023 17:14

Oh and I was an orphaned six year old who felt that the world was watching and talking behind my back. Nice!

So you don't bother trying to make it card.

Jesus.

My 7 yo grasps that if it's called a Special Persons Day card he still gets to make a card, he can still send it to me and the world keeps turning. If that means that Izzy doesn't have to go and sit outside with the TA or Billy doesn't get upset and throw the pens across the room or Jack doesn't burst into tears, then he'd be glad. Because not calling it a Mothers Day card has so little affect on HIM but calling it one has a massive effect on the Jack's and Izzy's and Billy's.

Lycanthropology · 17/03/2023 11:56

I wonder what they'll call Father's Day when it comes... Special Person's Day #2?

This

WhyIsBogdanSexy · 17/03/2023 17:16

Mothers and others is the best alternative I think. That's inclusive without the erasure of mother.

We do live in a time where language around mothers particularly is being mangled and eroded in the name of inclusivity (of very small numbers of people) and I think that is pretty sad and damaging.

Mothers and others is perfectly inclusive of the vast majority of children who are living with a mother, and sensitive to the small number of children who do not.

samsmum2 · 17/03/2023 17:18

As a teacher, if I'm introducing a card making activity, I always say something like 'today we're making cards for Mother's day or for whoever you'd like to make a card for in your family' etc etc. That way it covers all bases.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/03/2023 17:19

Hang on, you think the teachers, many of whom are parents themselves and let's face it, most of whom are women, are referring to the kids parents as breeders behind their back and consider my kids as theirs? Cos if the last bit is true, can I get them to babysit their kids for me?

If they want to make cards they can, what is put in the card is the main thing isn't it....I didn't say do nothing.

Point being is that celebrate the day as mother's day - which it is for the majority.

Sprogonthetyne · 17/03/2023 17:20

Not every child will have a mother who is actively involved in their lives. As a kid I always hated havingto make farthers day cards for a dad Ihadn'tseen in years, so I'm glad they have moved on from that. My kids school has "special women" and "male role model" days respectively for mothers / farthers days, which I'm OK with. Though not sure why I'm not a role model, or DH isn't special.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/03/2023 17:21

Special Persons Day #2 would be a pretty stupid name for it given they changed Father's Day to Special Persons Day first, wouldn't it?

MotherOfHouseplants · 17/03/2023 17:23

Rainbow03 · 17/03/2023 12:40

Yes the last Father’s Day was special person day also.

I think a lot of people have missed this absolutely massive drip feed

DarkDarkNight · 17/03/2023 17:23

It’s sensible and sensitive towards children who may feel sad about Mother’s Day because they have lost their mum or live apart from them. A special person day allows the to still make a card for someone in their life.

happyinherts · 17/03/2023 17:24

Point being is that celebrate the day as mother's day - which it is for the majority.

The day can well be celebrated as Mother's Day for the children who go home to mothers. Have you any idea what it's like for those who don't? Obviously not being that you continue to post with total tone deafness.

Some Asian countries have parents day instead. Although, ofcourse this isn't inclusive of orphans or children in care/being raised by other relations.
