We inherited a tiny butter knife with its own sheath

Not inherited obviously (not in the will) but DD saved it from a kitchen drawer of ‘stuff’. From DH’s Dad a couple of years ago. It’s not sentimental, it’s just so random. It has pride of place in the kitchen and is strangely amusing. Lay the table with it sometimes next to a proper sized fork for the unsuspecting teenager.

What other random items do you have that you love?

It's so cute! Is it sharp? My mum had something like that (also in its own sheath) but it was a fruit knife, which she kept in her handbag for her lunchtime apple. And here's me saying 'sheath' without referring to condoms 😂

We rescued a pearl handled pickle fork from the kitchen drawer after my Dad died. It’s the cutest thing but I don’t remember my parents ever using it.

I have my nan's fruit knife with its own sheath too, ah the memories

My grandmother died when I was two but I'd love to have known her. I have a pastry blender tool with a yellow wooden handle that she owned.

Lemevoir · 15/03/2023 21:07

A bone-handled carving knife, fork and sharpener from my grandparents. I think of them whenever I carve the Sunday roast.

Gindrinker43 · 15/03/2023 21:08

We have an ancient pair of sugar nips that came from DH grandad, handy for breaking up chocolate

BatFaceOwl · 15/03/2023 21:09

I have a teeny tiny Grodnertal doll, the size of one of my finger nails ish. From 1850

ODFOx · 15/03/2023 21:11

It is a fruit knife. What a nice thing to have kept 🙂

Fizzadora · 15/03/2023 21:13

I've got a silver plate apostle teaspoon that I took from my Mum and Dad's (they had a set of six as a wedding present) when I left home. It lives in the sugar canister so gets used every day to spoon in to DH's coffee but never used to stir.
Whenever Mum spots it she says she wants it back but always forgets to take it.

watcherintherye · 15/03/2023 21:14

Are you sure it’s not a little fruit knife, op? I think they came with covers so they were easier to carry round to peel an apple etc. when out on a picnic.

Chimchar · 15/03/2023 21:15

I love that op!
I've got a tiny brass beer barrel which unscrews at one end has about six teeny dice inside it. It was my Grandfathers. I think it came from Germany.

I have no idea what it's for.

BitchBrigade · 15/03/2023 21:15

A tiny wooden man that holds tiny olive forks

newfence · 15/03/2023 21:16

I inherited my Dad's WW2 bayonet - with its own sheath! I get it out when we have guests round as my 'party piece' 😂🙈

People are always genuinely interested in it though.

Tockomtele · 15/03/2023 21:17

I've nicked a plate from a rental about 20 years ago. It's a generic (probably ugly) brown plate with a flower on it. I still find it pretty. :-D

neitherofthem · 15/03/2023 21:18

I have a cake knife marked in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of King George V on 6th May 1935.

ShiningAsAlways · 15/03/2023 21:18

We have a spoon from a old relative that she used to make Yorkshire puddings, she also taught DH to make them with it when he was young. It's worn away round the edges though, so we never use it.

saveforthat · 15/03/2023 21:18

I have a tomato knife. Can't remember where it came from. It's fat, serrated and has a circle at the end to pick up the slices with. I also have yoghurt spoons from John Lewis, long spoons with different fruit shapes on top of the handle

Snooks1971 · 15/03/2023 21:21

Oh I adore all of these. Any photos?
So is our tiny butter knife a fruit knife then?

jamaisjedors · 15/03/2023 21:24

I have a silver grapefruit knife from my granny plus a silver mickle fork set with a weird flat spoon - I'll take a photo and see if anyone can identify it tomorrow!

Twwodoorsaway · 15/03/2023 21:25

I’ve got a scruffy dinner plate (smaller than the ones I use day to day) with blue checks on it, a couple of little chips on the edge. It was my granny’s Apple pie plate, she always used it rather than a tin, and I can still remember her pinching round the edges before putting it in the oven. I haven’t made one for a while, but always use her plate when I do.

BeStrongLittleRodney · 15/03/2023 21:26

I have the cutlery set my grandparents got as a wedding present nearly 100 years ago - they kept it for good, my parents kept it for good. I use it every day and thing of them
