Just that - is it time to defund the BBC (Biased Broadcasting Corporation) and make it subscription only?

Oh dear. Why don't you just say you were wrong in your earlier assertion instead of making yourself look like an ignorant chump.

Because I wasn’t 🤷‍♀️ It’s not me who’s making themselves look like “an ignorant chump”.

TwoMonthsOff · 15/03/2023 19:46

@MrsJamesofSutton
sorry but we aren’t ignorant chumps

you can watch ANYTHING on ANY device provided it isn’t LIVE TV or iPlayer

that’s the facts, honestly even the BBC website is clear on this

TwoMonthsOff · 15/03/2023 19:46

@Blossomtoes
🤣🤣🤣 indeed 🤣🤣😂

I need a tv license to watch channels that I want which is very unfair.

How is having to pay for a service you want to use unfair?

If you wanted to watch netflix you'd have to pay, if you wanted to watch things on prime you'd have to pay. If you want to watch things on bbc you have to pay.

If you only want to watch ch4 or itv programs on catch up (not live) you don't have to pay anything.

Blossomtoes · 15/03/2023 19:48

Thanks @TwoMonthsOff 😌

Thanks @TwoMonthsOff 😌

respect for using ‘chumps ’ though haven’t heard that since an episode of Miss Marple or an Enid Blyton book 🤣 I’m thinking there are a couple of BBC low ranking poodles on this thread

Florenz · 15/03/2023 20:09

Make the BBC like Netflix. You pay to subscribe and when you want to unsubscribe you simply click and unsubscribe and you stop being charged. No letters through the door, no sinister vans driving around checking whether you're watching a certain content provider. All open and above board. They make programmes that people like, more people subscribe, they make crap that no-one wants to watch, fewer people subscribe.

newnamethanks · 15/03/2023 20:09

No OP, that's a terrible idea.

x2boys · 16/03/2023 09:09

MrsJamesofSutton · 15/03/2023 19:35

Nope. If you have a television in your house, you have to pay the BBC, even if you never watch the BBC.

If you don't, you are liable for criminal prosecution.
It is worrying that people don't know this simple fact.

No you don't you are only liable to pay if you watch live tv

It's worrying that people don't know a simple fact that isn't a fact....because its incorrect?

@Onnabugeisha
yes fair enough, but it is a broadcaster - with a streaming service, rather than a subscription service and Netflix etc don’t send relentless threatening letters if you choose not to pay for them.
But as I have said before it suits some, others not, I am happy we still have a choice

I’ve never had a single threatening letter and haven’t paid for a TV licence since 2011. 🤷‍♀️ I realise I am lucky, but can’t be lottery winner lucky. There are probably many like me. We do keep our “I don’t watch TV” attestation updated with the TV licence people regularly.

Florenz · 17/03/2023 07:13

Why should you have to keep telling them that you don't have a TV? Do the DVLA send letters and come snooping round your house because you've forgotten to remind them that you don't have a car and as such do not need to pay road tax?

User3964870654 · 17/03/2023 07:32

I don't have to keep telling Netflix I don't watch it.

Florenz · 17/03/2023 07:42

The BBC is an anachronism. There's no need for it in the modern media landscape.

They do, if your the licence holder of a SORN vehicle, they will check.

And all those cameras to check your vehicle status is legal.....

Keep up at the back!!!

Yes but if you have never driven or had a vehicle ,they don't keep.sending threatening letters admit you to tell them you have never driven or had a vehicle,and threatening to send people round to check you are telling the truth nor,did they make up. Some nonsense about" Detector vans" .

x2boys · 17/03/2023 08:18

Asking*

SapphosRock · 17/03/2023 10:10

I love the BBC and would happily pay double the licence fee tbh.

Ttwinkletoes · 17/03/2023 12:04

Me too

Babyroobs · 17/03/2023 12:06

The only thing I watch is the news and question time but think they should have sacked Fiona Bruce after last weeks comments.

They don’t do that if you’ve never had a TV set either. You just tell them annually online. It’s hardly onerous.

You get an email with a link and you follow it and do a few tick boxes. It’s super easy.

I get harassing phone calls about the “duty of care” for my husbands vehicle when the service and MoT comes due from every dealership in a 50mile radius.

So the majority view is that it's not fit for purpose?

But that was not the logic you gave in OP.
Can you explain the Bias you mentioned in the OP?
