What do you call your grandmother?

Or if she’s sadly no longer here what did you call her?

my granny has always been granny but if I was to talk about her to someone I’d now say ‘gran’ rather than granny. I only had one set of grandparents.

my mum is also granny to my dc.

my kids also have a nanny and a nanna.

anyway, as we know it’s Mother’s Day next week and I’ve always struggled to find granny cards or gifts. Plenty of Nan, nanny, Grandma etc but granny seems very limited.

does no one use granny anymore?

went into the card factory today and found one single card with grannie on it - would rather granny but hey ho and one single gift had granny on it but plenty of Grandma available.

anyone else have this struggle?

seems trivial but it just annoys me. Same with Christmas and birthdays. I never had a prob finding a ‘granny & grandad’ Christmas card but granny on its own is hard. Sadly my grandad is no longer with us.

probably a pointless post just a little annoyed at the lack of ‘granny’ around!

I always called both my GM's "Nan", they lived in different countries so if I was ever mentioning them to someone else I just used to say "Nan in place name"

My DC call my DM "Nanny" and they called my MIL "Granny" but unfortunately she passed away 2.5 years ago.

Nanny as a child and Nan as an adult.

Maternal was Grandma, paternal was Nana.

My cousins' children called my grandma 'gran gran'.

Granny (and Grandpa). Is Grannie the scots version?

My mum is Mamma (Mammar) I can never get cards with it on. I’ve seen lots of Granny ones though.

All my grandma's were Grandma (+ surname if talking about them). That was two grandma's and two great Grandma's alive as a child.

DC only have a grandma and great grandma alive now, both with the same surname so we keep the 'great' bit in.

Paternal one was Granny and maternal one was Nana.

I could never get Mother's Day cards with Mam on it. They were always addressed to Mother or Mum.

I had 2 Grannies. My kids have one Granny and a Grandma (her preferred name). I'd like to be Granny. Grandma sounds so old fashioned to me.

Both if mine were granny, distinguished by the place they lived. So granny Scotland was one.

My mum is granny to my children and their other one likes to be called nanny
