My lovely Mum 😭

I'm sick to my stomach with fear.
My mum recently found a painful lump/swelling in her armpit and has been having spells of her breast being red and hot to the touch. She went for her annual mammogram and has been called for further tests.

I just know in my heart it's inflammatory breast cancer and I am heartbroken.

I can't lose my Mum 😭😭

Sending lots of love ❤️

Sofiabella · 25/03/2023 19:31

Thank you. It's just so hard. The consultant said "It's stage one and it's very treatable." But she can't know that before the scans surely?

Op my mam had breast cancer and survived, radiotherapy and that was it. She was so fit and well.

Sadly she died very suddenly just after Christmas (unrelated to her breast cancer). 5 years after beating cancer.

Op as worrying a time as it is try to not catastrophise.. your lovely mum is still here and you are awaiting news. Take each day as it comes.

Sending 💕

They told me the same too 🙂 hard as it is, try not to over think it to much, if it helps at all the said mine was early stages ( like I said they wouldn't use the term stage 1,2 etc) when I asked what that meant, it was because it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes and was contained within my breast - they biopsied the lymph nodes that looked iffy. And even though they told me that, that's also what they said the CT scan was for, to check if it had spread anywhere else.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 25/03/2023 19:57

Sorry to hear about you mum OP. I've had a different cancer (womb) but in my experience stage 1 is the earliest stage (and best in cancer terms). The biopsy will have given the Drs this info. Stage 1 means the cancer is small and contained. This is good as it means any operation is likely to get it all out. I hope your mum gets more positive news over the coming weeks.

Echobelly · 25/03/2023 20:01

Sending best wishes to you, as others have said the wait is horrible but even if it is breast cancer it is very treatable now, it's nowhere near a death sentence these days.

DomPom47 · 25/03/2023 20:08

One step at a time. Your mum with draw strength from your bravery.
It’s a really shitty situation. Hopefully it is not cancer and if it turns out to be hopefully she will have a good treatment plan that she responds to.
Thankfully to the brilliant work of researchers breast cancer has good treatment rates. Sending your mum and you best wishes 💐

mommatoone · 25/03/2023 20:39

OP im so sorry to hear about your lovely mum. It must be really hard hearing of her diagnosis. My auntie was diagnosed (2nd time, different breast) before Christmas. They picked it up early , stage one and operated straight away. We are now a few months on. She has been great , you would never know. Shes 83.
Sending you best wishes, they can do so many things these days 💕

thegreylady · 25/03/2023 22:40

I was diagnosed with Stage2 triple neg breast cancer in 2006. I was 62. I celebrated my 79th birthday on Monday. After diagnosis I had a WLI followed by 8sessions of chemo and 15 of radiotherapy. The treatment was tough but I have had no recurrence. My daughter was 32 and had just given birth to her first child. That baby is now 16 and doing gigs GCSE this year. He also has a 14 year old brother. Breast cancer need not be a death sentence.

thegreylady · 25/03/2023 22:42

his not gigs

Sending love
It must be hard to stay positive ...but try the best you can
It's ok to feel all the feelings you are experiencing
X

Swiftbushome · 26/03/2023 10:58

Really sorry to hear it is cancer OP. If its stage 1 though theres a very good chance of complete cure as far as i understand. Sending best wishes to you and your mum.

NeonHalo · 26/03/2023 12:23

Was it definitely stage 1 and not grade 1 (my understanding is the latter is about aggressiveness of tumour). My mum
has recently been diagnosed with a grade 2 breast cancer but we won’t know stage until her lymph nodes have been tested and she’s had a CT scan and bone scan to check for any spread. My mum’s tumour is massive though which is why she’s having the scans. Your mum’s situation sounds really positive x

Sofiabella · 26/03/2023 13:36

@NeonHalo definitely stage they said, they didn't mention a grading. I'm sorry to hear about your mum, it's just horrid isn't it.

OP posts:
NeonHalo · 26/03/2023 13:53

@Sofiabella that’s wonderful news! The stats for stage 1 are just brilliant. I’m so pleased for you both ❤️

Sofiabella · 26/03/2023 16:03

Thank you @NeonHalo . I know the consultant knows her stuff and must have reason to say stage 1 but until the scans confirm it I won't get my hopes up though.

Another update.
My mum has been told the cancer is grade 1 which hopefully means slow growing and the surrounding lymph nodes have come back as all clear on the ultrasound.
However there is a lymph node on the opposite side that they have classed as indeterminate and want to do further tests.
I didn't even know it was possible for cancer to spread to the other side rather than the original side? Or are they thinking this is a new cancer?
It's a rollercoaster I really want to get off 😭

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/03/2023 20:28

Cells can travel around the lymphatic system.
But grade 1 is "good" news. They can remove lymph nodes easily enough. Then she may get a few rounds of chemo or radiation just to make sure there's nothing left to grow. I'm sure she will be ok

Sofiabella · 30/03/2023 10:29

Thank you. CT today and MRI next week, then results clinic and hopefully get her treatment plan in action.

OP posts:
NeonHalo · 30/03/2023 11:40

I hope her scans go okay @Sofiabella. My mum had her CT last week and has a bone scan next week. They will make a treatment plan after that - fingers crossed no spread for either of our mums.

Sofiabella · 13/04/2023 08:20

My mum gets her CT/MRI results today. I feel so sick 😭
Praying that it hasn't spread and is as treatable as the consultant seems to think.
