Luxurious treat of utterly inedible?

I'm just opening a box of chocolates I had for Christmas. I love chocolates, but looking at the flavours these sound a bit 'out there' (ie, gross!) Or am I just being a fussy-pants?

Walnut marzipan
Saffron fudge
Pistachio truffle
Rose fondant
Violet fondant
Cassis jelly
Earl Grey truffle

What do you think? Would you fall on these with delight or wave them away?

That's a famous old school brand... I'd try those flavours BlushGrin even though I dislike 'proper' dark chocolate.

I don't understand

picklemewalnuts · 08/03/2023 16:01

I'd love all those, except the earl grey. But if it's basically bergamot, with no tea, then that's ok too!

You can keep the Earl Grey. Send me the rest, and I will conduct a taste test and report back.

TonTonMacoute · 08/03/2023 16:02

They sound a bit fussy for my taste.

Give me a box of Leonidas any day.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/03/2023 16:04

Some sound amazing and some I would try with interest - it's a good brand so much don't expect any of them will be awful.

CoachBeard · 08/03/2023 16:05

Oh I had these for my birthday. They were absolutely gorgeous, except for the violet fondant because I loathe violet as a flavour. I came down with a noro type tummy bug as a kid, straight after eating parma violets and have never been able to face them since.

Q2C4 · 08/03/2023 16:06

Rose & violet fondants are absolute Christmas classics!

Justforlaffs · 08/03/2023 16:07

Those are my kind of chocolates - my garden centre regularly has offers (near the tills where you can’t miss them)on rose and violet creams for 2.99 and I always buy several boxes and can easily eat a whole box in one sitting.

Im such a granny!

JoanThursday · 08/03/2023 16:09

I think I may have had this exact box for Christmas myself! I scoffed the lot last weekend and thought they were delicious. Feel free to send it over my way .....

wonkylegs · 08/03/2023 16:13

Prestat are nice - I'd try them all, only one I'd be wary of would be the marzipan but cheap marzipan is a world away from a good quality one so even that would probably be fine

gogohmm · 08/03/2023 16:15

Sound yummy

DanceMonster · 08/03/2023 16:16

I don’t like marzipan but otherwise they sound delicious!

Guis23 · 08/03/2023 16:16

Blimey. Just try one.

gogohmm · 08/03/2023 16:17

Never heard of the brand, seem to only be in london. Around here it's Thornton's or lily o'brians if you want boxed chocolates (not own brand that is, or those seashells)

MerryMarigold · 08/03/2023 16:17

Let us know how it goes OP. Dh got a posh pack of chic's from Fortnum's and I swear they were Earl Grey truffle. I love Earl grey tea and I love chocolate but these were so disgusting I couldn't eat them! I was appalled at myself! My favorite choc is Aldi fruit and nut. It's extremely addictive.

BadNomad · 08/03/2023 16:18

This is just a humblebrag about how you don't eat chocolates immediately.

I'll take the fondants please.

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 08/03/2023 16:18

I would jump at those. 😋😋😋
I love combinations like that and am sick to the back teeth of salted caramel and praline being almost the only flavours anyone can imagine in a chocolate box and therefore available to buy when I fancy some posh chocs.

starfishmummy · 08/03/2023 16:19

I dint like flower flavoured stuff but dh bought me some, I tried it and was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't; couldn't, have eaten the whole bar in one go, nor would it be my first choice if I was buying chocolate but it was not bad!

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 08/03/2023 16:19

There's an ice cream brand that do an early grey ice cream which is amaaaazing. Brand is 'Cheshire something or other'

PissedOffofTiverton1790 · 08/03/2023 16:20

They sound great. I’d certainly give each flavour a go.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/03/2023 16:24

I'll take them all, but who wants the skanky tea flavoured chocolate?

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 08/03/2023 16:28

🙋‍♀️

whatausername · 08/03/2023 16:29

They sound pretty damn normal apart from the saffron! I'd eat them all.
