Luxurious treat of utterly inedible?

I'm just opening a box of chocolates I had for Christmas. I love chocolates, but looking at the flavours these sound a bit 'out there' (ie, gross!) Or am I just being a fussy-pants?

Walnut marzipan
Saffron fudge
Pistachio truffle
Rose fondant
Violet fondant
Cassis jelly
Earl Grey truffle

What do you think? Would you fall on these with delight or wave them away?

I'd try all except the cassis jelly, just because I'm not a fan of jelly texture.

All the rest sound potentially great!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/03/2023 15:23

I wouldn't class any of those as 'out there'. I'd avoid the tea one, because I don't like tea, but all the rest sound fine.

GetOffMyDoorJack · 08/03/2023 15:23

I'll have em!

I clicked on the thread wondering if you’d had the same box of chocolates as me (Hotel Chocolat) - their ‘festive’ flavours were awful & half the box went in the bin ☹️

Rose and violet fondants would be delicious and a real treat. Cassis jelly 🤢

I'll have the cassis jelly!! And I'll arm wrestle you for the violet creams.

Snoken · 08/03/2023 15:36

It's amazing that you have untouched chocolate from Christmas still. I would eat the walnut and pistachio but the others I would probably not be able to stomach.

Passerillage · 08/03/2023 15:39

Rose and violet fondant are pretty normal flavours (that I LOVE) - not sure I'd like the others so much! Prestat is a v big brand.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/03/2023 15:42

I used to have a lovely customer in the e90s who always brought me Fortum and Mason violet creams. They were lush.

I'd give all of them a go except marzipan <vom>

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 08/03/2023 15:42

I’m much more put off by the term “fussy-pants” than by some moderately unusual flavour names

I agree @CaptainMyCaptain - if you melt galaxy the amount of oil that separates out is really gross.

Have they always been greasy or is it a semi-recent change?

LookingOldTheseDays · 08/03/2023 15:43

Rose and violet creams are a classic flavour, surely? Most small chocolatiers that I've used make those.

Cadburys and Galaxy are vile these days - mainly just sugar and oil. Whereas those flavours actually sound like they'll taste of something.

LookingOldTheseDays · 08/03/2023 15:45

If you're appalled by those flavours, I'd definitely not recommend trying any of the more out there flavours that you can find. York Cocoa House actually do a stilton flavour (or used to, at least) and it was much better than it sounded.

Comedycook · 08/03/2023 15:45

I'll have a pistachio truffle and have to try the rest to see what they're like. They sound like quite perfumey type flavours if you see what I mean...

diddl · 08/03/2023 15:48

Shame the rose & violet ones are fondant rather than turkish delight otherwise I'd like all of those.

LakeTiticaca · 08/03/2023 15:50

Get em down yer Gregory 🤪 😉

Deadringer · 08/03/2023 15:51

I don't like the sound of any of them, but I would still eat them. Daft names imo.

Hoppinggreen · 08/03/2023 15:52

Nuts and chocolate are wrong but I would happily hoover up the others

Are the names just the flavours?

waterlego · 08/03/2023 15:55

I had never heard of the brand either. I like the sound of the flavours though.

But posh chocolates and truffles are wasted on me; I tend to find them too rich. I like my chocolate cheap and cheerful. Reese’s sticks are my current favourite.

OldTinHat · 08/03/2023 15:56

No, don't eat them. You won't like any of them. I'll PM you with my address and I shall dispose of them in a humane way...!!

Whichwhatnow · 08/03/2023 15:56

Pistachio truffle sounds lovely, the walnut marzipan and the saffron fudge could go either way - everything else sounds grim tbh.

Verite1 · 08/03/2023 15:56

Oooh - prestat rose and violet fondants are my favourite! Lucky you!

I've never been that keen so haven't tried any recently but I'm told it went downhill rapidly when it was taken over by Kraft, an American company. My favourite chocolate is the black 85% cocoa solid stuff from Lidl.

Daft names? They're named after the flavours! What else would they be named?

Mrsjayy · 08/03/2023 15:58

I love Rose and Violet creams ill have those. I'm too poor to know what saffron tastes like so I'd try those too!
