Just being nosy, really!

How long is the shortest marriage you’ve seen and why did it end so quickly?

@TurnipSurprise I hope you'll be very happy together (unMNetty hugs!)

3 years and it was my own. I knew I should never have married him, I hated every moment of the day but I was such a shadow of who I used to be thanks to his abuse I didn't think I could get any better. I'm ashamed to say I begged him to stay at one point.

I went to an absolutely horrible wedding and the couple split up a week later.

The bride was trying to get the groom to go to counselling but he didn't want to, and the bride's father was threatening to sue the groom for the cost of the wedding.

A year later they got back together.

3 months. They'd been together 12 years. The wedding cost £17k. The Brides parents were livid they'd paid all that money - The Bride was seeing a work colleague on the side.

the two shortest wedding I know were both only 3 or 4 months.

In both cases they were in long term relationships - bit about 15 years.

I think they both did the same thing - the relationship started to go wrong but they still kind of loved each other and tried this grand gesture - they then had a year or so planning the wedding and having something to talk about. Then they got married and realised it didn't fix the problems they'd had before.

I know someone who was in a similar situation and she said exactly what you've said here. She and her ex-husband had been together for years (got together at university) and knew the spark was fading so they threw themselves into the wedding as a distraction. They limped across the finish line and separated within a year.

A few days;the groom had changed his mind about getting married prior to the wedding but decided to save face and go through with it as everything was arranged and paid for.

I actually think my friend got a lucky break as the groom came across as someone who didn't want to give up the single life and my friend was never sure if he'd actually been faithful.

TheOtherHotstepper · 10/03/2023 16:10

My friend's first marriage didn't even last a day as her not so DH was removed from the reception by the Home Office - he turned out to be an illegal!

Then he was back in his own country heaven knows where and it took 5 years to find him and divorce him!

My first marriage lasted 6 months Turned out my DFiance had changed his mind prior, but only told the Best Man, who had kindly persuaded him to go through with it. When he applied for a job hundreds of miles away from where we lived, I knew it was over.

Less than 12 hours. My ex husband's best friend. Groom had too much to drink, they went to their honeymoon suite in the hotel, got into bed, groom though it would be funny to straddle the bride and fart on her face. It wasn't just a fart though... It didn't end well.

I shouldn't laugh 😭

Schmutter · 10/03/2023 16:16

Two lots of friends. About 5 years each. That’s not very exciting is it?

Couple one - infidelity (his).
Couple two - his mid-life crisis.

gingercat02 · 10/03/2023 16:33

Old work colleague came out on her honeymoon got divorced as soon as they got home!

mynewusername2023 · 10/03/2023 16:37

One day - he confessed to an affair the day after the wedding!

Too bad they didn't last a full year as the traditional first anniversary gift is paper, and you could have gifted him a roll....😂

CaveatmTOR · 10/03/2023 17:06

Not even a day. Bestie from school married in the afternoon and in the evening he left the reception 'to buy some cigarettes' and never returned.

Months later he reappeared. Apparently he had been having an affair and had gone to hers. It was easier and quicker to divorce rather than get an annulment so that is what she did.

If you could have heard him take his vows it would have brought a tear to a glass eye. His loss though. She's happily remarried with two DC now but it was a hell of a shock at the time.

CaveatmTOR · 10/03/2023 17:25

I've always believed that Diana should have left Charles on their honeymoon. After she overheard him talking to Camilla on his cell phone, she should have called for a water taxi to take her off and just go back to her normal life.

PeonyRose80 · 10/03/2023 17:30

2 weeks. During honeymoon the groom found out bride been having affair with best man.

Michino · 10/03/2023 17:54

2 hrs. A woman my father worked with. The groom had a heart attack and died at the reception.

6 weeks there was another person involved it was really sad and messy, people at the wedding were giving it 6 months !

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 10/03/2023 18:47

6 months. Together over 10 years & a huge wedding her dad paid for.

It was frigging hundreds of miles away too for everyone 🙄

I'd rather tell people I'd found him in bed with me dear old ma in the honeymoon suite than tell people he'd shat on my face.

SewingMum46 · 11/03/2023 17:55

About six weeks. They were neighbours of ours. Turned out she’d been having an affair with the best man - his best friend - for over a year prior to the wedding. She’d been married to the best man for almost 20 years last I heard, but it was a bit of a shocker at the time.

28 days together for myself and my husband. Seven years to get divorced - good luck with that one future family tree researchers.

One of my ex friends had a destination wedding with a huge registry and we all spent a million pounds (approx) attending and helping and getting the fucking ice cream bar ready in summer in TUSCANY and yes I am still annoyed about it. We bought two fucking vases off the registry. If your marriage lasts less than two calendar months then refund your guests you bastards.

😂😂

Rhaenys · 11/03/2023 18:32

Officially, 12 months but they’d been having problems for a while before that. I think they wanted to make it to their 1st wedding anniversary to save face.

Pupinski · 11/03/2023 18:38

Liz Truss and Conservative Party. 45 days.

10daywonder · 11/03/2023 18:42

10 days. I married DH in a special ceremony at home.
We knew he didn't have long to live, so legalised our union to ensure I got both State Widow's pension & his works pension
