Beach or shops

AlwaysAnonymous · 04/03/2023 06:10

Visit a waterfall (and being able to walk to work would be handy!).

PuttingDownRoots · 04/03/2023 06:11

A supermarket.. all alternatively all the departments as independent businesses

A lake or river suitable dor swimming and paddlesports.

Beach or somewhere suitable for swimming
It's weird, I have this almost compulsion to be in water to ground me. I couldn't go to the beach and not put my feet in the sea, and the same walking by a river

It's an indiigneous belief in many cultures that water is medicine. As is being in the forest/jungle/close to concentrations of trees.

I'm lucky enough to live in a city (ish) close enough to lakes and beaches. I genuinely believe that if people had the chance to be near large bodies of water regularly, they would suffer from fewer ailments, psychic and physical.

And I'm not into wooo.

MaidOfSteel · 04/03/2023 06:19

I wish there was a bus stop. Simple as that. I live in the countryside so can't go anywhere without a car.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2023 06:49

Another one for beach.
I'd like to be able to walk to open water to se

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2023 06:50

Posted mid thread accidentally ...

I'd like to be able to walk to an open water S.W.

iusedtobeasize8 · 04/03/2023 06:52

Lots of things. I wish there was a shop and a decent pub.
I miss living in a city sometimes.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2023 06:52

.... aaarrrrgh!

I would like to be able to walk to an open water swim spot, but I have several choices in 10-20 mins drive, I'm not complaining.

Nugg · 04/03/2023 06:54

My mums house and my office.

Fortunate enough to have friends family and the beach in my town. Just mum is 4 hours drive and my office is an hour away. I WFH but office is an option and I really enjoy going in

DisforDarkChocolate · 04/03/2023 06:57

The beach and grandchildren. Where I live has everything else I need.

MinnieMountain · 04/03/2023 07:04

A nice bakery.
A beach or the sea with cliffs.

I actually live within walking distance of a lido and a river.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 04/03/2023 07:04

I now live in the same road as the railway station, which is very exciting! Especially as it has a cafe I can use there too!

Porridgeislife · 04/03/2023 07:04

Get a decent coffee. My village is absolutely perfect but lacks a coffee shop.

ScreamingTree · 04/03/2023 07:06

I'd love to be near the sea.

Qe did seriously consider moving to the coast but came to the conclusion we'd miss the convenience of everything we have on our doorstep here.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 04/03/2023 07:27

Walk to a railway station with a direct line to London.

SnappyTheCrocodile · 04/03/2023 07:31

Open water swimming
A heated pool
A lovely country pub - that miraculously doesn’t cause any issues with parking or large numbers of customers

We live in a lovely tiny, sleepy village, I wouldn’t want to change that too much!

EspeciallyDedicated · 04/03/2023 07:41

Beach here too and cinema. We live on the edge of a small town and have several supermarkets, pubs of all descriptions, nice independent cafes and a sports centre all within 15 mins walk plus open countryside, woods, nature reserve with river also within 15 mins. Station is 20 mins walk. One of my non-negotiables when house-buying was to be able to walk into town easily.

QuertyGirl · 04/03/2023 07:42

Good bakery.

Swimming of any kind

AnnaMagnani · 04/03/2023 07:43

A bus.

We love where we live but it's isolated and DH isn't able to drive. When I'm away for work he's marooned here.

princesssparklepants · 04/03/2023 07:50

Family.

We live in walking distance of the beach, a supermarket, a great park. But would swap it all to live in walking distance of my mum. Or DDs cousins.
Driving to anyone is atleast 20 minutes, more if traffic is bad and since we live in a seaside town... the traffic is generally bad!

Rebel2 · 04/03/2023 07:59

@MrsTerryPratchett makes sense. I'm "I need to go stand in the water for a bit" Grin

vickibee · 04/03/2023 08:01

Go swimming, our nearest public pool is a thirty min drive away

CollieFIower · 04/03/2023 08:03

A train station. The closest one is 8 miles away. There used to be one in our village with direct connections to cities 25 miles away in each direction but it was a Beeching casualty. I wasn't even alive then but the fury at the total short sightedness of those closures is strong in me! The difference it would make to both people and planet to still have a functional local railway network across much of the UK is just incredible.

As it is, it takes 4 hours each way on 3 buses (all of which only run either hourly or 2 hourly) to reach a city from where we live. Only 40 minutes by car though. The loss of opportunity to people living rurally is awful.

Roystonv · 04/03/2023 08:04

Good, free art gallery and museum with cafe and gift shop not trendy, not specialised. Imagine the joy!
