Another vote for the beach. I live in North Leicestershire, which is pretty much as far from the coast as it’s possible to be in the British Isles.

PaniniHead · 04/03/2023 00:09

The school run

CrapBucket · 04/03/2023 00:12

I instantly thought of the beach when I read this, although now I also want to meet a sloth.

Sometimes there is a tiny horse at my local park but I've never timed it right to actually meet them, I wish I could. Like lil Sebastian apparently.

Girasoli · 04/03/2023 00:13

I feel really lucky...within a 30/45min walk (I like walking) I have the beach, woods, theatres, cinema, shops, and my work.

I'd move Asda a bit nearer!

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/03/2023 00:15

Checking in as another Beach lover.

EnolaAlone · 04/03/2023 00:15

Go to the theatre.

tempusername1234 · 04/03/2023 00:15

The jungle.

I was raised in the tropics and loved all the sights and sounds and the weather.

shopmyfeelings · 04/03/2023 00:15

Step out onto the beach.
Decent pub.
A really nice local restaurant. Nothing fancy, just nice.
Everything else I need on my doorstep day to day so I don't have to drive so much.

LandLockedLucy · 04/03/2023 00:16

I moved about a decade ago and can do a lot of the things I want to here like walk to work, posh supermarket, a NT place, art house cinema, pubs, restaurants, river walks, swimming pool.

I’m an hour from the coast and find a walk on the beach a great leveller, although the sheer beauty of the NT place near me is hard to beat, but like a lot of us I’d say the beach. I wouldn’t want to give the other things up though!

Would love a National trust property on my door step, more woods/forest. Basically more nature.

would love other activities such as bowling/cinema near by

crew2022 · 04/03/2023 00:20

Gym, coffee shop, well stocked corner shop

Notsurewhattodo29 · 04/03/2023 00:20

Would also love a local costa coffee 😂

devildeepbluesea · 04/03/2023 00:23

I’ve always said that my absolute minimum, no matter how much I earn / win on the lottery (wishful thinking), is a pub and a shop within walking distance. I already live within minutes of prime walking country. And yeah. Everything else i can manage with travelling to.

fizzykoalablanket · 04/03/2023 00:28

This thread makes me realise how lucky I am to be just two minutes from a beautiful beach, within easy walking distance to a river, woods, a small town with cinema and wonderful restaurants.

But sometimes I'd love a day in a vibrant city, big shops, trendy restaurants and the buzz of city life.

I'm in your area too . Would love to live near a beach but too many family ties here. Mind you we have some lovely countryside and forests nearby.

LadyJ2023 · 04/03/2023 00:35

Ummm well we can walk to the beach within 10 minutes and we can walk to the forest and hills within 20-25 minutes as we are plonked right in between in a certain north east region so very lucky. If my kids and hubby could pick probably a macdonalds lol as they rarely get one as we nowhere near one 🤣

Weenurse · 04/03/2023 00:45

Waterfall

fastandthecurious1 · 04/03/2023 00:49

Be near a beach!

LivingTheDreamNow · 04/03/2023 00:51

The sea sea or a swimming pool 🏊‍♀️

SkankingWombat · 04/03/2023 00:51

A beach that's good for swimming, but I would want to also keep the nature reserve we have on one side of us just 10 mins walk away.

A shop. Nothing fancy, just one to get the odd basic from when caught short and the DCs could walk to to spend their pocket money on sweets. We're in a village that has a choice of 5 (not great) drinking establishments but no shop. The village I grew up in had one pub that had a mini shop/door opening onto a glass counter round the back. You went in, rang a bell, and the barmaid would appear - it was great and tended to cover the hours the normal village shop wasn't open!

A decent pub. We have 2 bars connected to sports clubs, a member's club in a hall that's super friendly with great drinks and friendly people but being a hall feels very utilitarian, and 2 pubs. The pubs are both run by the same people who charge more for a G&T than we recently paid in central London, and who think beige bought-in deep fried food is the standard to aim for.

Rebel2 · 04/03/2023 00:55

Beach or somewhere suitable for swimming
It's weird, I have this almost compulsion to be in water to ground me. I couldn't go to the beach and not put my feet in the sea, and the same walking by a river

Groutyonehereagain · 04/03/2023 00:57

A walk in the countryside.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 04/03/2023 01:09

Living near a pub ain't all that fun. Especially on a friday/Saturday night. People tend to be shouting fucking idiots. This evening I've just listened to some twonk shout at some other bloke who then proceeded to whip his shirt off and try and jump over a wall and fail miserably.
I'd like a zoo, a proper conservation one.
Maybe a beach, although I'd avoid it like the plague during the summer.

Both my sisters

Totally this. The closest one is 3 hours away and we have said we will live together when we’re old if we outlive our respective partners.
