Funniest thing you’ve seen when driving?

I was sat a queue or traffic today and I a lady in the opposite direction wanted to turn right in front of me. Usually I try to leave space in this situation so people can turn right onto a different road but I hadn’t noticed as it was a private dirt road / driveway (my bad - please let me know if the rules about leaving space apply for private dirty roads / drives as it’s got me pondering!)

The woman looked visibly annoyed but that was diluted by the fact her whole face was painted like a Dalmatian’s 😂.

Pleas let me know your funny driving stories. :)

A camel grazing in a field. This was in West London, about 25 years ago. I later found out that a circus was preparing to set up in the field (back in the days when there were no laws prohibiting the use of animals in circuses).

If you like camels there are couple grazing at a farm shop by the A66 on the way to the lake district. They look very happy and content ( great place to stop if you are going that way)

I've probably been someone's funniest moment on the road.

A good number of years ago, I was on the A90, going North between Laurencekirk and Stonehaven, on a motorbike. The left hand lanes were coned off for repairs, on both carriageways. A wasp got into my helmet and was crawling around on the visor on my face.

I'm really allergic to wasps and am absolutely terrified of them.

I hit the brakes, swerved through the cones, put the side-stand down, jumped off the bike, the bike fell over. I ran into the field, frantically trying to undo the D-Ring strap, wrenched the helmet off and flung it as far as I could, then danced around shrieking hysterically and waving my arms around my head.

After a while, I retrieved the helmet, very cautiously and walked back to the bike. Loads of drivers had slowed down to stare, open mouthed. Dragging the tattered remains of my dignity, I got the bike up, got my helmet on and rode into a gap in the traffic.

Driving back from holiday one night and the motorway was closed with a diversion. I'd been nodding off in the passenger seat and woke up to see a woman in full Victorian dress bustling her way down the road, lit somewhat spookily by the streetlight in the dusk. I sat up quite quickly, almost convinced I'd seen a ghost, with DH laughing and pointing to the Black Country Museum up the road that had closed about half an hour before.

a car full of Santa's

A very large millennium falcon on the back of a lorry

I see him from the bus rather than while driving, but this guy - James Bond - drives around my bit of South London dressed up like this, just to spread joy.

Driving in Switzerland one day in mid May ,snow piled up either side, on a steep mountain pass on hairpin bend. A mobility scooter, mdriven by an elderly gent, coming up the pass on the opposite side as we gingerly negotiated the hairpin in our two seater sports car. The mobility scooter had a see through plastic cover over it to protect the driver from the elements..think Pope Mobile…
He was probably thinking the same as us..look at this fool …
In Turkey a motor bike with dad, mum, three kids and a dog.

On a hot day in summer I saw a group of people in a car trying to transport a large inflatable pool (fully inflated). They had put it on the roof and were all holding onto it through the windows, but due to the drag the car could only do about 10mph. The queue behind them was massive and they probably wished they had just deflated it for the journey! It still makes me laugh!

We were driving in North Yorkshire to go to Fountains Abbey when we were brought to a halt by a man signalling for us to stop. It was a crossroads, and from our left came an opentop vintage mercedes full of Gestapo Officers. They raised their hands to us in greeting.
It was a series being filmed for TV, but no sign of the cameras. Surreal.

Three teenage lads and a moped. All on a moped. We assume the other moped had broken down.

Southern Italy.

Hahahah @REP22 "it's a dog!"

I've also seen a velour fringed sofa, with coffee table, mantel clock and standard lamp being driven around a town in the SE. That turned out to be Ed China.

There's a motorcycle rider in our city who drives around dressed as Elmo. Even the helmet is red fur and the visor is made to look like the mouth.

More boring I've seen a wind turbine blade being transported. They are enormous!

I would like to see a windturbine blade. I have trouble conceptualising how big things are and I'm a bit obsessed with how big could be, for example a cruise ship (never seen one weirdly) or a massive whale.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 03/03/2023 23:40

Guy on a motability scooter driving down the dual carriageway with a roll of carpet wedged at his feet and spanning the whole width of his lane.

Got lost in Manchester, stopped at lights, teen girl with big boobs in car next to us was changing her bra....she gave us directions and then asked what we thought of her boobs !

Someone driving on the m25 with a massive swan on the back seat.

That might have been me.

There is a life size model of a blue whale in the Natural History Museum. Huge !

Deathraystare · 04/03/2023 07:52

Passenger on bus in New Forest. Herd/pack of donkeys galloping by on the other side of the road. Yes of course nothing unusual to see donkeys around and in New Forest but I had never seen them galloping before.

Glittertwins · 04/03/2023 08:36

Going up the M1 and we got overtaken like we were standing still by a heavily modded Focus ST. A few minutes later, we passed it as it had been pulled over by the police. A short time after that, it shot past again....and we passed it a second time as it had been stopped by a different police car.

heartbeatt · 04/03/2023 11:23

A deer stopping traffic to allow his family to cross the road.

It's an actual skeleton, suspended from the ceiling of ( frantic googling ) Hintze Hall.

A stag trying to 'stare down' a ford focus during mating season.

It wouldn't get out of the road so the driver stopped, got out of the car and tried to shoo it onto the verge. The stag chased him back into his car. 😂 I guess he didn't know they can get a bit belligerent.

I always wondered how kids shoes ended up on motorways and things.

To be stuck in a bit of slow moving traffic and see a little one with their window open happily posting their shoes and socks out the window.
