Funniest thing you’ve seen when driving?

I was sat a queue or traffic today and I a lady in the opposite direction wanted to turn right in front of me. Usually I try to leave space in this situation so people can turn right onto a different road but I hadn’t noticed as it was a private dirt road / driveway (my bad - please let me know if the rules about leaving space apply for private dirty roads / drives as it’s got me pondering!)

The woman looked visibly annoyed but that was diluted by the fact her whole face was painted like a Dalmatian’s 😂.

Pleas let me know your funny driving stories. :)

I've been the funny thing that other people saw. My DD was allowed to choose a toy for her birthday when she was about 10 or 11. She chose a 5ft tall gorilla soft toy. The only way to get it into the car was to sit it in the front passenger seat and put the seat belt on. I saw lots of people doing double takes as I drove past. Grin

I was in a queue of traffic, glanced into the next car and saw an actual leopard sitting in the passenger seat. I was next to it for a good five minutes -it was definitely real and appeared to be the guy's pet. It was very well behaved though!

Useyourfork · 02/03/2023 21:32

There was something small hanging out the van in front in a queue of traffic. When we neared the vehicle in front we realised it was buzz Lightyear hanging on to Woody 😳

Motorcyclist today on the motorway with what I thought was a baby strapped to his back Shock but on closer inspection it was Yoda

Gingerkittykat · 02/03/2023 21:38

Another dalmatian one that happened today.

I was waiting in the queue for the traffic lights to change and the car in front of me had 2 dalmatians with each of their heads poking out of the windows on both sides of the back seat.

Overtook a large boat in the dark on the M1. I was very confused about what it was as a approached!

A kangaroo crossing the A505 at one in the morning . I was almost convinced I was hallucinating with tiredness , so pulled into the McDonald's to grab a coffee, and the car behind me pulled in as well , and parked next to me in the car park . I said to him "I'm not mad but did you see .. " and they said "the kangaroo ? Yes "

So we rang Cambridgeshire police , assured them that we weren't pissed and had seen a kangaroo crossing the road to which the operator replied " actually it's a wallaby " and informed us that apparently there are the odd few wild ones about . Who knew ??

I had an elephant run in front if my car when I lived in Kenya, they are surprisingly quick and camouflaged! I'm not sure who was more shocked me or the elephant.

Driving on the M6 in Cumbria on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty much empty which was good because I suddenly had to slow right down to avoid two stranded canoes on the carriageway.

Also on the M6, a massive convoy of Danish soldiers. Think we passed about 30-40 vehicles in total, all with the Danish flag and decked out in camouflage.

A sign saying Art in the Park advertising an event - someone had drawn an F in front of the Art

I recall driving on the m42 and in the middle lane was a car that was upside down...there was no obvious accident - it just looked like it had parked like that!

Today I saw a double decker being towed. It looked so big compared to the tow truck.
Another time I saw a hearse being towed with a coffin inside it. I know buses and hearses break down but you just don't expect to see them being towed.

I was once driving when I passed three elephants casually walking down the road accompanied by 4 or 5 people who I assume were zoo keepers.

This was not in the Uk but was somewhere with a similar likelihood of encountering elephants on ones drive.

It was near a zoo but far enough away to be a bit odd that the elephants were there. I found out later that the zoo would walk them several times a week to a stream that they liked to bathe in. Most of the walk was through property owned by the zoo but they had to do a short stint on the road where they left one field and went into another and that’s where I passed them.

Very much a wtf moment.

That reminds me of the road sign for "Rood Hill" in Congleton which for about 20 years was changed to "Rod Hull". Only mildly funny and only to people if a certain age, but it always made me smile.

DH and I driving along minding our own business. Carload of idiots start zooming all around us, trying to race at the lights, cutting in front of us, dropping behind us and tailgating.
We stopped at another set of lights, when they went green they screeched off ahead of us, cut in front of us too fast, spun out and went off the road.
Their car freakishly landed nose down in a deep ditch.
All unhurt and undamaged except for egos and no easy way to get the car out of there without a huge fuss.
Of course DH pulled over and we asked them if they were ok.
They were obviously visibly embarrassed and pretended we weren't even there.

Fraaahnces · 03/03/2023 03:10

I live in Australia and was driving from Brisbane to Melbourne which is about 1800km (1120m), so obviously, my first assumption when I ended up behind this truck was that I was over-tired and hallucinating. Turns out that they were moving this bloke from one zoo to another. He had the same blissful look on his face dogs get when they stick their faces out the window.

About ten years ago we were on the way to Cardiff airport at about 3am, last set of traffic lights before the M4 a naked man appears out of nowhere and runs in front of car! No idea what he'd been doing as no houses in the direction he came from. Made our journey a bit more exciting trying to imagine what he was thinking when he saw our car

Fraaahnces · 03/03/2023 03:17

Oooh, also… in the city where I now live (bloody hate the place.) They decided to put in T2 lanes during peak traffic times, with hefty fines for single occupancy cars who drove in those lanes. It was not uncommon to see blow-up sex dolls in the passenger seat with people looking for a loophole and trying to fool the cameras. They started fining them twice - once for single occupancy and another for fraud.

clairelip · 03/03/2023 03:20

Just thought of another, journey from hell London to Wales in heavy snow. Two hundred miles at 20mph wasn't fun. Some prat came up outside lane doing 90mph and I took great pleasure seeing he had spun off the road onto the hard shoulder about five miles later smashing his car up, no-one stopped to help him as I think we were all thinking the same thing, it deserves you right and thank god you didn't hit anyone else

Coteeee · 03/03/2023 03:41

A clingfilmed car....

sashh · 03/03/2023 03:48

Not particularly funny but odd.

Getting on tot he M6 toll, a van with a couple of blokes driving off the M6 but on the on side. I hope they did a 3 point turn rather than had driven the wrong way on the motorway.

A spitfire on a trailer on the M6.

Police trying to catch a group of swans on the M6 toll.

There is something about the M6, there must be.

A rogue sheep on the road, it saw my car and made a leap over the wire fence but hit the top wire. It did a spectacular cartwheel midair then landed on all fours and kept running. Most impressive gymnastics display I've ever seen

Omg this genuinely made me cry laughing! The bloody vision it summoned up was like something from Shaun the Sheep
