How loyalty points rich are you?

So in the real world I'm skint all the time. But I have a habit of saving my points rather than frittering them:

Boots £44
Tesco £75
Waterstones £30 plus 7/10 stamps
Costa 7/8 beans - 1 more for a free drink
MacDonald enough points for a veggie deluxe

John Lewis £320.00

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/02/2023 11:26

£70 in Nectar points. Mind you the last time I spent any was 4 years ago.

£50 in Boots plus a £20 gift card

6 Caffè Nero completed cards ( I know someone who works there who slips me the odd pre stamped card Grin)

£20 book token

Need to check my Co-op card , can't remember what I've done with it.

But I really hate that this is the way it is and that everywhere needs an app or a card to get a discount off an inflated price. I know they're called loyalty cards, but in reality few people are loyal to anywhere and we just end up with loads of apps/cards/points etc.

I realised I had about 30 loyalty cards! Decided to stop signing up for them, and change to just using Tesco, Boots, Waterstones and suck up any price savings so I could maximise points. I try to use offers and vouchers. Otherwise I was just ending up with loads of bits of plastic and loads of random .53p off things.
I do use airtime rewards which is just based on using your bank card, saves me about £60 a year on my mobile bill.

Quidco £65.77

Tesco £7 in vouchers

About £40 on Tesco Clubcard but I regularly use the points for Disney+ and delivery saver, though I noticed they have changed delivery saver so it isn't 3 x points any more so won't spend points on that now, occasionally we get a railcard with the points.

about £5 of Boots points, I spend those quite regularly on small purchases.

About £25 of Nectar points.

MegaClutterSlut · 26/02/2023 11:39

A few pence on my superdrug beauty card

£84.28 on my asda rewards. Only downside is you have 6 months to spend them so going to move the money over onto a gift card and save it for Christmas 😁

Couldn't agree more. I don't normally shop in Tesco and don't have a Clubcard. I was shocked by the price differential between Clubcard and ordinary prices. I didn't buy anything from the inflated prices ranges out of principle and it'll be a long time before I go in there again.

£34.23 in nectar points and a free breakfast roll on the Greggs app. It’s become a work tradition to have a Greggs breakfast on a Friday so I’ll use it then and I save my nectar points for Christmas.

MinistryMelody · 26/02/2023 12:06

Not spent Nectar point since 2001.

I tend to save my boots points up then buy perfume with them.

I do exactly the same. I've currently got about £50 - it was a lot more but I bought a bottle of perfume last year with them.
I've got about £25 with Tesco. And enough for 5 coffees at Costa, usually save these for the school holidays.

Precipice · 26/02/2023 12:14

Some of these are so high! I'm especially stuck by the idea of 'wasting' them. Can you explain why you'd rather save points (possibly expirable, can only be used at that particular shop or at least, in a very restricted number of places) over actual money (no expiration, can be used anywhere) when buying something where you could redeem the points against the value? I understand only the poster who mentions an offer where the value might double.

lljkk · 26/02/2023 12:29

It can feel like any other savings programme, right? But personally I'm afraid I'll forget to spend them unless I spend them asap, and the special deals are never for stuff I want anyway.

SongChaser · 26/02/2023 12:44

Glad you asked this, just checked and I have £35 in Tesco vouchers expiring in a few days so will use them tomorrow.
We have another £240 as well. I do forget about them now although I think they do send emails to remind you they’re close to expiring. When the kids were younger we used to use them a lot for days out.
Boots vouchers, I have about £20. It’s easy to see how much you have when you shop online so I tend to use them regularly.
We have various others but no idea how much is on them.

PollyannaWhittier · 26/02/2023 13:01

Until a few weeks ago I had about £120 of Boots points Grin I'd been saving them up for years, but finally decided to spend most of them on a new electric toothbrush in the Jan sale.

Tesco email me if I have vouchers which are about to expire so I can use them up. I used to save them to get free RAC membership but am currently getting free AA membership with my car so am now using them up for general shopping. I have a Tesco credit card so get quite a lot of points each quarter, I buy everything on my credit card to accrue points - pay it off in full by DD each month.

The Tesco delivery saver is still a good deal even if you don’t use vouchers to pay for it if you shop regularly. I pay £7.99 a month and have a delivery about every 10 days. If I don’t spend equal to what I have paid ( by choosing cheaper flexi time slots), I get refunded the unspent amount in vouchers every quarter.

I think it's a bit of a rainy day mentality maybe? Like if I can pay real money I will (especially if I then get double points or whatever) and then my points are there for when disaster strikes or I can't justify a treat.

I do this too. It is lovely not having to hand over money.

Fluffygreenslippers · 26/02/2023 15:16

I tell you what I don’t have points in-Superdrug! Are they the worst points system or what 🤣 I go in there frequently and I only have 80p worth of points. I find I earn £10 worth of Boots points every couple of months. I usually spent them then, on some makeup or skincare that I need anyway.

HappyJellyBaby · 26/02/2023 08:46

Watch your Waterstones points, mine expired and I lost £10. Also if your card gets pinched there is very little protection

MIL has about £300 of Nectar points and I can't persuade her to spend them!

I have just under £300 Nectar points. I spent over £200 on a TB for my son for Christmas in Argos.
I will keep at it in case I need to spend it or I fancy something from Argos.

tinytemper66 · 26/02/2023 15:30

I did have £50 Tesco vouchers but used them to donate food to a food bank over Christmas m.

OldTinHat · 26/02/2023 15:34

£7.20 with Asda, £9.45 with Boots and a full loyalty card for my local hippy shop which entitles me to a free pack of incense sticks.

Lorrymum · 26/02/2023 15:37

I keep mine to put towards Christmas. I used £150 of nectar points last year. The amount of points awarded have halved so it will take me a while to build up a useful total for this year.

BiggerBoyMadeMeDoit · 26/02/2023 15:41

Boots - £13.xx
Greggs - one hot drink and halfway to a free breakfast bap.

That’s it. I don’t use any others.

I have written to Waterstones to ask if they could create a scheme where you could donate to local schools, they said no. Maybe I could set up a central points donation centre.
