I've been craving good movie scores lately. I'm leaning towards orchestral but I'm open to songs too.

What are your favourite themes and songs from movies?

TIA

Mark Kermode does a film soundtrack show on Scala radio every Saturday. And there's one on Classic FM every Saturday too.

Midnight cowboy was written by John Barry and I am a huge fan of his. He did some of the Bond films but also Out of Africa and Dances with Wolves and other films and TV programmes and some adverts too. It's all great.

THIS!

I too am a huge fan of the late, very great John Barry.

Love all the movie soundtracks mentioned here but must add "Somewhere in time" which is devastatingly beautiful along with "Chaplin". I have a cd with these soundtracks on and it is my most favourite
cd ever.♥️ Think it's now on YouTube.

We went to a rather wonderful orchestral concert of Hans Zimmer’s most famous / popular movie and television scores just before Christmas. I’d imagine there’s a ‘Greatest Hits’ type recording of the favourites of his originals and an orchestral version as well - I’d certainly recommend the latter.

Oh wow - I remember after he did Hannibal I was actually thinking exactly this - that a concert of his best stuff would be amazing!

EconomyClassRockstar · 21/02/2023 00:04

Amelie I love that soundtrack

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 21/02/2023 00:06

I love the music by the following composers (for the screen) and some have already been mentioned.

Ennio Morricone
John Barry
John Williams
Brian Tyler
Alexandre Desplat
Michael Giacchino
Danny Elfman
James Horner
Hans Zimmer

They are the ones that I can think off from the top of my head. You should be able to make up a decent playlist from their back catalogue.
