Anyone else never moisturise their face?

I'm 58, have never bothered. I wear factor 50 in the summer, mostly anyway. I think I look pretty much exactly my age. Anyone else? Just curious, that's all

I never used to moisturise until I got into my 30s as my face is naturally very oily and it would cause me to break out. I don’t know what happened, but as soon as I turned 32 my skin started getting dry in places after I’ve washed it and I noticed when it was dry I got creases in my forehead, which looked like wrinkles. I now moisturise every morning and it’s helped a lot and my skin texture is a lot better. I never moisturise anywhere else and I never have dry skin.

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2023 15:36

Same as you, OP and I'm the same age, 58. I don't moisturise, wash my face with water only, wear makeup very rarely, use factor 50 in summer. I drink loads of water. My skin is soft and not dry, I have no deep wrinkles and only a few very fine lines. I suspect it's genetic as my DM is the same in her 80s.

Smallorangecat · 19/02/2023 16:47

Me. I am 42 and get told I don’t look my age. I have never worn moisturiser, had any kind of skincare regime or worn make-up.

Me - same age as OP. I probably look about average for my age, so don't feel the need. Also never use body lotion or hand cream as I hate the feeling of them on my skin - just make me want to have a wash immediately!

Fizbosshoes · 19/02/2023 17:01

I've found my people! I never moisturise, my skin is naturally greasy and it seems counter intuitive to add something to it. I wash with water, I use a clearance type cleanser a few times a week, I rarely drink water and I'm pretty bad at using sunscreen. I should look about 100 - but thankfully I dont 🤣

Ohisthatright · 19/02/2023 19:25

I know some people who are delusional and say that they have no wrinkles and will drone on that someone thought they were 10 years younger. And they do need moisturizer despite them insisting they dont. Would love to see the posters on here that say the same.😂

I moisturise my face but that's it can't bear the feeling of stickiness on my body. Unless anyone can recommend an actual non sticky body lotion!

Neutrogena spray (you don't even have to rub it in)
Sanctuary wet skin JELLY (the clear one) is amazing, apply to wet skin in the shower

doadeer · 19/02/2023 19:28

I think I can count on one hand the number of people I've ever met who truly look ten years younger than they are. Yet on these threads it's always every other person 😂.

I'm 33, I could probably push for 28 ish but not 23! There's a maturity your face gets, wrinkles aside.

Cuppsoupmonster · 19/02/2023 19:31

I agree @doadeer i feel like one person says it to them out of politeness and they take it as gospel! I’m early 30s, and look early 30s. My skin is very good but there is a matureness your face gets over time no matter how well looked after you are. Most of the people I know who truly look 10 years younger are men!

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 19/02/2023 19:33

No. My face is catching up with my age now 😳 and I have tried so many from supermarket ones to posh ones and I have yet to find one that doesn't bring me out in spits or a rash. I do use a face suncream (Boots) in summer but that's only if I remember.

Spots!

brownwire · 19/02/2023 19:35

I moisturiser it like 3-5 times a day. If I don't then the skin around my mouth starts peeling!

My dad does
I've seen him wash his face with swarfega though so I'm not taking any beauty tips from him
He's 73 and most people put him around 60

Natsku · 19/02/2023 19:44

I don't unless my chin gets dry and sore from freezing wind. I only wash my face with water and don't use make up ever so probably my face skin doesn't dry out so much (hands are dry all winter though and need moisturising daily, and legs about once a week)

supercalifragilistic123 · 19/02/2023 19:45

I think it really depends on your skin type. Unless you have oily skin I don't think you can appreciate that you honestly don't need to moisturise if you don't use loads of products.

My skin is much happier for washing with water and that's it! If I wear makeup (rarely foundation) or it feels particularly grubby I will use a cleanser.

I've tried all the products and routines but this suits me.

justadress · 19/02/2023 19:49

I don't use moisturiser but do use vitamin e facial oil instead. I also find oil better on my hands too.

Berlinlover · 19/02/2023 20:19

I’ve been using moisturiser since I was 11.

usernameV2 · 19/02/2023 22:08

Really interesting to hear all the other non moisturisers! I don't think I look younger than my age by the way, but I also don't think I look worse than other people my age. Men usually don't moisturise, they look fine?

OzzyOzworn · 19/02/2023 22:11

Me!! Super lazy!always fall asleep with makeup-remove it in the morning :/42 and get regularly get ID’d. Look early 20s. Don’t deserve it maybe it will catch up on me. Drinking lots of water may help. No idea! Think it’s genetics

Genevieva · 19/02/2023 22:14

Me. And I only wear suncream in the summer when it is sunny or I am going to be outside all day. My skin reacts to a lot of thing so I don't wear foundation or powders either. I am generally told I look younger than I am. I have taken to wearing a summer hat in recent years.

redbigbananafeet · 19/02/2023 22:16

I find this interesting as if I dont my skin feels
'wrong'. Tight and dehydrated. i wonder if this is how your skin feels all the time and you dont know or if your norm is my norm? what does it feel like if you do moisturise?

Deadringer · 19/02/2023 22:24

I am 58 too and I have slightly dry skin, I do when I remember which is probably every other day at best. I have night cream and never bother using it. I am just lazy I think.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 19/02/2023 22:33

No never. I'm far too lazy
But I wonder if I felt I needed to, if I would make the effort. Quite possibly.

I'm 51 and have very few lines but I think I probably look about average for my age. I get the impression that many people hear "50" or "60" or whatever and think "old and lined" but that's rarely the actual case. I'm not wrinkly because I'm not actually old yet. 😁

TBF I see men who I think should probably use some SPF/moisturiser etc
But they tend to have thicker skin I think and I guess get some exfoliating from shaving

I think many people who say this to others do actually mean it because they have an unrealistic idea of what a certain age "looks like" particularly if they themselves are still quite young. I could easily be persuaded that I look ten years below my age - until I look properly at others my age who also don't look especially "old" yet.
