I'm 58, have never bothered. I wear factor 50 in the summer, mostly anyway. I think I look pretty much exactly my age. Anyone else? Just curious, that's all

I can’t imagine not using moisturiser my skin is always so dry !!! I only cleanse once a day at night as my skins very sensitive but I have to use a facial oil plus a moisturiser and often I wake in the night and have to apply more as my skin feels dry and tight . I drink lots of water too but my skins just so dry

Spendonsend · 19/02/2023 11:34

I have really oily skin so I dont. Although i have started to get a dry patch on my forehead so i might give it a go.

I wear factor 30 in the summer, but mainly I have a hat amd stick to the shade. I assume I have a fair bit of sun damage due to not wearing spf for 9 months of the year.

PennyFarthings · 19/02/2023 11:36

I moisturise daily, morning and night because it feels nice. I have psoriasis and it can be improved with moisturise.

It does seem slightly ridiculous (unless for medical reasons) to wash away all your skins natural 'moisturisers' that we have evolved over thousands of years to produce, only to replace them with synthetic products.

I agree - I wash my face with water and a facecloth and moisturise if my skin feels dry (very rarely). My face doesn't look dirty and I don't have acne so this works for me. There are so many skin types though and what works for one person might not be what's best for another.

yellowhedges · 19/02/2023 11:41

Never. And I wash my face with soap!

I always think this too - I’m sure we’ll learn lots about the skin microbiome and how damaging it is to throw all these chemicals on our skin.

This is interesting, to me moisturising (body + face) daily is something I've done since before I can even remember, as a baby my parents moisturised me. Not doing it would feel very weird.

This is strange to me, I had so many moisturisers given as samples etc for my babies and mostly ended up donating them unopened.

I don't really understand what moisturiser is for? Surely if skin is dry, it means that you need to drink more water, not put moisturiser on it.

But I have started buying one for the summer that has sun protection in it, since I dislike wearing sun cream on my face and felt that I should wear something. So I use it in the summer now.

Choconut · 19/02/2023 11:46

I never wash my face with water (very hard water here = very drying + mineral build up) only use an organic cleanser and then organic moisturiser. My skin has got dryer with perimenopause though and now I also put a bit of organic argon oil on my dry cheeks.
If you wear sun cream in the summer then that will probably moisturise anyway (plus sun cream is probably better to prevent aging than any plain moisturiser) but I find winter much more drying what with heating and cold winds so I would use moisturiser then personally.

Buntymcgiggle · 19/02/2023 11:48

I moisturise every day after showering, but then I have a bit of eczema and dry patches, so if I don't, I feel itchy and like a prune. Dp moisturises his face nightly too.

notprincehamlet · 19/02/2023 11:49

I treated myself to some posh moisturiser and I've been trying to be arsed enough to use it on a reasonably regular basis. I'd say I've gone from looking like a baked potato to a boiled one.

If I try, every time I come out in spots. I'm in my 50's, have fairly good skin so I think it must be oily. Even the lightest whisper moisturiser makes me spotty.

Same here - I do try sometimes, but then the spots start. I never wear makeup, just wash my face with water and occasionally facial soap in the shower.

namechangeforthisbleep · 19/02/2023 11:51

I have dry skin so have to. I love the feel of it too

thesunsoutagain · 19/02/2023 11:53

My 97 year old mum has lovely skin and has never moisturised. She's Irish and has the Irish fair skin as I do. All she does is use water and maybe a rub with a flannel.

I've always tried to use moisturisers without too many chemicals. If I don't moisturise my skin can feel dry and tight but I always wonder in the back of my mind if moisturising prevents your skin producing its own natural moisturisers

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 19/02/2023 11:54

I do moisturise my face and have done since age 16, I am 70 and have very few wrinkles.

Neodymium · 19/02/2023 11:54

I do. I started at age 20 daily. SPF one during the day and normal one at night. My skin would feel weird without it.

i do look younger than my age (40). Most people think I’m late 20s or early 30s. But that could be genetics.

Cuppsoupmonster · 19/02/2023 11:55

RaininSummer · 19/02/2023 11:19

Since I was 14. My skin feels very tight and itchy without. I do have good skin and very few Iines at 60 though so it's worked for me.

Me too! Moisturised with Nivea Soft every day since I was about 12/13. I’m early 30s now and don’t even have frown lines!

Sunriseinwonderland · 19/02/2023 11:57

I have every day since aged 14. I left it off this morning and after a couple of hours I looked like I was 100 so I soon slapped some back on. I have extremely dry skin so I need cream.

SuperTrooper7 · 19/02/2023 11:57

Only ever with argan or coconut oil. The fancy processed stuff is horribly stingy and makes my eyes water.

MyriadOfTravels · 19/02/2023 11:58

Me too!!

Or rather the very few times, I’ve tried, my skin then became very dry and I felt I had to use the cream because it was getting uncomfortable and tight. I’ve never ever had dry skin…
My conclusion is that those creams are a scam. They hook you so that you end up needing the stuff when you didn’t in the first place.

Each time it took me a coupe if weeks before my skin settled back dine again to feet right. I’ve had the same effect with body moisturiser (gift that I thought I would try…. Bad move)

tinkerbellvspredator · 19/02/2023 11:59

No moisturiser no make up. Early 40s. I have oily skin though and am told I look about 10 years younger.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/02/2023 12:00

We are thinking of installing a water softener. I wonder if it will stop my skin feeling so dry? Has anyone felt any benefit?

I sometimes moisturise in desperation when my eye area gets dry and scaly, but then it gets puffy and sore, so I go back to plain water. We have a lot of chlorine in our tap water, so I use boiled cool water on my face, it's a real faff!

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/02/2023 12:02

NB I don't suppose the water softener would get rid of the chlorine?

Wond3rment · 19/02/2023 12:06

I’ve moisturised for as long as I can remember. Can’t imagine not doing it.

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 19/02/2023 12:08

I wash my face with soap and that's all I do. I'm always told I have lovely skin.

Don't wear make up, don't moisturise. Try and remember to wear SPF on my face but tend to avoid the sun as I burn easily.

I probably have lots of "hidden" sun damage.

MaverickSnoopy · 19/02/2023 12:12

I never have because my mum never has. She's aged beautifully and has amazing skin, only ever having used soap and water.

I'm 38 and have recently implemented a skin care routine after feeling haggard, with dry skin and make up being clogged. It's made me feel so much better and my foundation goes on beautifully now. My mum still looks amazing though, she's 70. I think we are all individual.
