Well that was one hell of an impulse spend

I've just been to the dentist. Check up, all good, £23 on the NHS.

But the dentist did a brilliant job of up selling and I seem also to have spent £230 on being fitted for teeth whitening trays and that's only half of the total cost!

I might buy a sports car tomorrow 😆

This thread is so funny.

Went out for some curtains hooks and a reel of Velcro but was drawn to the travel agent where I booked 7nights in Ibiza.
I had been thinking about a holiday but had never been drawn to Ibiza nor knew/know anything about the Island.
Due to go to Ibiza in July and I'm still a bit annoyed at myself and the travel agent who must have somehow hypnotized me into booking

There's something for everyone in Ibiza - you'll have a lovely time Grin

I was going to say the people who causally acquired a partner won until the donkey appeared 🤣

A nomination for Classics surely?!

I have been reading thinking it needs to go into classics.

It's too brilliant not to be preserved!

Went into town to buy sunglasses before summer got here and went home with the sunglasses and a new house. Two years later watching tv in 1am with the children, it was in the high 30s at 1am still so we couldn’t sleep because of the heat and humidity. An ad came on the tv for a state on the other side of Australia (6 day drive in 45°+) . It was their autumn and lovely and cool. 60 minutes later we were packed and heading for cooler temperatures, for a holiday. 3 years later we came home.

WTF 😳

That's amazingly hilarious 🤣🤣

Jojoanna · 17/02/2023 09:25

Jealous about having an NHS dentist.

My DH was took his car for new tyres in the 90s and got talked into buying 3 leather jackets from another random customer , they didn't fit him and they weren't real leather.

justasking111 · 17/02/2023 09:28

Went out to work one day when I came home OH had bought a business 😀😀

Goatlady5812 · 17/02/2023 09:29

I was reading this thread at 4am this morning and absolutely dying with laughter… and then I googled some new builds near us and decided to make an appointment to look at the show home… we only moved 6 months ago…. Have zero intention of moving and neither have I had any discussion with my husband 😂prob be better to go out and buy a yacht instead.

I did once go to get some food shopping and come back with a rabbit… I also ended up with a St Bernard that I accidentally bought on my honeymoon. 🤷‍♀️🙋‍♀️

Went to IKEA for 2 plates and 2 bowls. Came out with a sofa, sofa bed, wardrobe and 2 lounge cabinets.

Isn't that their business model?

Also Hobbycraft. Go in for thread, come out with £100 magnifying light.

Backtoreality1 · 17/02/2023 09:40

Two days ago - went to buy grass seed and left with a three seater garden sofa with footstool. In my defence, it was an absolute bargain as last years stock. Had to ask someone from work to come down with the van as I had no way to get it home. Also, forgot the grass seed :)

Amazing 🤣🤣🤣

Went out for a coffee and cake with DH. Came back with a Highland bull called Hamish.

Dh went out for bread and milk.. came back with a Mitsubishi space wagon. I loved that car and we had it for years!

I went out to buy socks ..bought a lovely leather two and three piece sofa! It has lasted over 20 years and we only bought new one last week!

So as impulse buys go.. not too shabby!

I once went to town many years ago (1982> to buy plastic pants to put over Terry nappies; walked past a travel agent and saw an advert for a fantastically cheap full board holiday and booked it straight away.

The hard bit was telling my husband and we were going away on holiday next week; he was not happy he with me.

The holiday was to Spain and it turned out it was the World Cup in Spain that week so I had a week with a 7-month old baby and he had a week in all the sports bars! Bliss!

Itawapuddytat · 17/02/2023 10:07

Oh, we haven't done too bad than. The worst so far it's been only the "we went to pick up milk and cat food from Tesco and left with a big TV too" and ""went to look at cars as there's a sale at Arnold Clark and we bought one there and then". This happened twice already Wink

PP mentioned someone buying a long skin leather coat Matrix style. I did the same in the autumn of 2000, a bit of an impulse buy but I have really wanted one for a few months so "oh, they have one, I look good in it [or so I thought 🙄😂] I've just been paid so I'll get it". It was quite pricey, but good quality and I still have it somewhere in a cupboard

doingitalllagain · 17/02/2023 10:09

Nipped into IKEA to replace a pasta bowl that got smashed, left £980 poorer.

MoonahSton · 17/02/2023 10:11

Back in the 70s my dad went to meet his new team member and ended up buying a house. A house that had no inner walls, stairs or a roof (so basically 4 walls).
My mum found out when he got home from work to tell her that they had to sell their perfectly nice house to pay for it and move in with my grandparents (my parents and 2 siblings - I wasn't born - all had to live in one room for months until the house was water tight).
My parents loved the house once it was liveable but I think my mum is a saint for going along with it 😂

TicTac80 · 17/02/2023 10:17

Went to the shops to get <something basic/mundane/normal>....came out with a velvetiser and 4 packs of Hotel Chocolate hot choc sachets. I don't think I've had other massive impulse buys (apart from maybe stuff like makeup when I was younger and could be arsed to use it!).

Wish I could nip out and buy a house!!! I love this thread!

Biddie191 · 17/02/2023 10:27

I once went to buy chicken food, and bought a digger. We still have the digger, it is very well used and has saved us so much in hire fees and / or knackered backs over the years.

You have an NHS dentist???!!!

Blimey.

I have an NHS dentist. £23 for a check up which I get refunded by work. I have £125 a year to spend via the work scheme and I find it disappointing that the dentist has never suggested anything else to me so I can never utilise that benefit!

They don't even send me to the hygienist. I did ask, they said I don't need it.

My late uncle once popped out for a loaf of bread and came back with a campervan, so yeah, these things happen.

Had he gone to Lidl? 😀

I’ve found my tribe 🙌
My husband took the dog for a walk at 10pm one night and came back with a motorbike (he didn’t steal it, he bought it from a bloke in the village who happened to be tinkering in his garage when DH walked past 😬)

Did the dog ride pillion on the way home?

What IS an NHS dentist?
(Sorry, just being sarky after being on an NHS waiting list for about 3 yrs & eventually going private..)
