Well that was one hell of an impulse spend

I've just been to the dentist. Check up, all good, £23 on the NHS.

But the dentist did a brilliant job of up selling and I seem also to have spent £230 on being fitted for teeth whitening trays and that's only half of the total cost!

I might buy a sports car tomorrow 😆

Refused to buy Madonna tickets at the 02 as they were too expensive. Instead bought cheaper ones for her concert in Amsterdam and have now had to buy flights and accommodation as well. At least I have time to save for food and drink while I’m out there.

MyFlagMeansIceCream · 16/02/2023 17:33

Went to Wales for a cheap week holiday with relatives, and came home in a different car...

@BevMarsh Ibiza is a stunning place. The most turquoise, beautiful sea ever.

heyyellowyellow · 16/02/2023 17:38

Went out for a drive one Sunday afternoon and came home with the reservation fee paid on a new build house, after signing our own house up to part exchange! We moved in 12 weeks later, mortgage company said they hadn’t seen a sale and purchase move so fast in years!

Urguth · 16/02/2023 17:40

Ha. I popped into a motorbike dealership for a pair of gloves, and inadvertently came out with a pre—registered but brand new 600cc bike.

it was a very nice bike.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/02/2023 17:42

I went out to buy a takeaway and found myself DP.

Long story short, I decided to pop into the venue opposite the Japanese restaurant/takeaway for the first time whilst I was waiting, got talking to the guy who ran it, found myself joining a band, the usual guitarist dropped out six months later on the day of a gig, his mate agreed to dep, bounced up onto my stage, grinned and said hello...

All because I fancied a treat instead of beans on toast.

Georgyporky · 16/02/2023 17:48

Went on holiday to Spain & visited some ex-pat friends.
They'd bought a villa, but hadn't yet sold their other Spanish property.
We bought it.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 16/02/2023 17:49

Friends of mine walked to the supermarket one Saturday morning rather than driving as usual. They were congratulating themselves on only spending a few pounds as they had to carry the shopping.

They then passed a 4 bed house for sale on the way home and bought it two weeks later.
(They now live in it and rent out their previous house.)

I think there was a thread on here a few years ago like this. I seem to remember someone went out to buy something mundane and bought a narrow boat on impulse.

Went grocery shopping and bought a boat.
It was an inflatable 3 man dinghy from the Middle Aisle at Lidl... DH tried to dissuade me, but I was getting increasingly overexcited and loud about my boat and we were getting looks, so he agreed.
That was 2 years ago and I'm yet to use it as we are half and hour from the sea and no where near a decent river, but 8 have hope. I refuse to be parted from my boat. Also, it was £40.

I did this! We then had to buy a life jacket (just in case we ever used it) then a couple of years later they did a 3 person boat! I bought We bought one of those too in case friends wanted to come with us. Only thing is we don't have any friends stupid enough. I'm sure we can sell for a profit though...

Brilliant thread!!

When I was married, we went grocery shopping and came home with a new sofa....a large corner sofa that we didn't even know if it would fit the room! It did, and I loved that bloody sofa. I had it as part of the divorce settlement, looked for a house that would fit it for ages and had to give up and sell it. Gutted.

I'm currently trying to talk myself out of buying a gym membership, not helped by a 20% staff discount. But I don't think that could be classed as an impulse buy 🤣🤣🤣

Went to buy socks at M&S, came home with a 300 pound (in 2001!) leather trenchcoat. I think the vibe I was aiming for was The Matrix but I looked more like the Gestapo guy from Allo Allo.

I think I bought the same leather coat and it had the same result on me! 😂

Went to the rspca to look at two rabbits I was considering adopting. Came home with said rabbits and a 6ft snake!

We did similar. We had sold our house and were trying to work out where to move to.
Went out for a drive and came across some new houses being built. Looked at the show house and agreed to buy one. The sales team made us go and have done lunch ( to talk it over) before they would accept our reservation fee. It wasn’t even an area we had previously been considering.

My friend is a dental hygienist.
She saved me £300 from the dentist 'teeth whitening offer'
Bought trays off Amazon for £9 , did it myself really easily, you just put them in hot water and mould them in your mouth. They fit perfectly, then I bought the whitening gel from the dentist at £30!
Hygienist friend says they're so overpriced at dentist with a big mark up and it's an unbelievable rip off that so many people's fail to research.
( Sorry that's no help to you op but maybe anyone thinking about it in future)

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2023 18:19

We went out to buy an Xmas tree but instead got two goldfish and a tank etc.

Also impulse-bought an inflatable canoe, paddles and pump when we were looking for a wetsuit in Decathlon - but at least we did use that a few times.

NeedWineNow · 16/02/2023 18:20

Loving this thread!

I haven't had a mega impulse buy in comparison to some on here, but I did go to TK Maxx one day for a nightie and some knickers and instead came out with a fake fur coat (and no knickers!).

DH's mate had a late night drunken online buying session and bought 4 new tyres for his Porsche. Trouble was he'd sold the Porsche a couple of months before 😂

VanillaSox · 16/02/2023 18:26

best thread!!!!!!

Stealth blast about having an NHS dentist!

VanillaSox · 16/02/2023 18:31

Another one.
Hobby barbecue they needed one more (£12) purchase to break even. So paid it to help them out. I hate barbecues but nothing else on so went since I'd paid the dosh anyway.
Met the most gorgeous man. Still happy with him 18 months later...

Justmeandthedog1 · 16/02/2023 18:32

My DP went out to pick up a fridge freezer, came home with a Collie pup.

Doidontimmm · 16/02/2023 18:35

My friend & I once impulsively on the way home from work went to pets at home and bought a hamster (incl cage etc) each!!

I bought a car, when I'd taken my old car for a new tyre. Opposite the Hyundai dealership.

Inextremis · 16/02/2023 18:38

We came to Ireland for a short holiday and ended up buying a house and moving over - our UK flat wasn't even on the market, we had no jobs sorted out - but it all came together in the end and we've been here since 1999!

RadioactiveWear · 16/02/2023 18:39

I once went out for a drink at lunchtime with a friend, and came back with a Fendi handbag. She reckoned I deserved it. I didn’t use it once!
