Well that was one hell of an impulse spend

I've just been to the dentist. Check up, all good, £23 on the NHS.

But the dentist did a brilliant job of up selling and I seem also to have spent £230 on being fitted for teeth whitening trays and that's only half of the total cost!

I might buy a sports car tomorrow 😆

I dropped off some stuff at a charity shop and came out with the perfect carpet bag. I'd wanted one for ages but they were always ££. Got mine for £6. I could do with a new car though ...

follyfoot37 · 17/02/2023 07:18

no COL crisis here then

Lobelia123 · 17/02/2023 07:23

It may have been an impulse buy but it was a good one! Whitening your teeth does incredible things for your face, you look younger and fresher and better cared for and arent afraid to smile!! A great investment in yourself xx

This became an impulse buy in its own right as the prop picture sold for £18k

DH and I went to John Lewis to buy new kitchen scales and came back with a bed a month ago.

Anewuser · 17/02/2023 07:35

This was a long, long time ago, when I was a child. My dad sent my big sister out to buy a joint of meat for Sunday dinner - she came back with a puppy.

No, we didn’t eat her but we did have her for 13 wonderful years.

Twiglets1 · 17/02/2023 07:36

We went for a minibreak to Chester and came back with a new car so I know how these things escalate

Mummyto2rugrats · 17/02/2023 07:36

While in Labour with our 1at asked DH to get me some blueberry muffins as craving them. He did come home with them and a remote controller 3ft dalek that lived in a cupboard until we moved 7 years later

GetUps · 17/02/2023 07:37

Only Teeth Whitening and sports cars? I clearly have no imagination and need to seriously up my impulse buying game!

@larchforest Is there no available nhs dentists in your area?

Is there an available NHS dentist is anyone's area? Not in mine, or that of anyone I know.....

Yes I'm hoping so and I am in a "it's my turn" phase of life, but I wasn't actually aware my teeth needed whitening!

The denist asked if I drink a lot of tea, which I do....and then went on to tell me how her tea habit means she "needs" teeth whitening every 6 months. She was a young woman wearing a mask so I didn't even see her teeth 😆

Calling · 17/02/2023 07:42

I want to whiten my teeth now! How do I know what shade of white to buy? I don't want the very bright shade.

Came here for the impulse bought donkey, stayed for the teeth whitening!

That's one of the reasons I go for my regular check up despite not having needed anything done in years. I know if I get kicked off their list that's it.

I thought maybe you'd bought a house!

My friend impulse buys big ticket items. A 40k car, 20k caravan, pool, furniture.... On the spot wham! Done! Problem is she can't afford it!

Notjustabrunette · 17/02/2023 07:51

So, I’ve had a plumber round this week to fix a leaky pipe. He’s now also going to be moving a radiator, fitting a new bathroom and downstairs loo. For approx 10k.

PeonyRose80 · 17/02/2023 07:55

We went out for a brunch to cure a hangover and came back with a Kia

DanteThunderstone · 16/02/2023 17:15

Went to buy socks at M&S, came home with a 300 pound (in 2001!) leather trenchcoat. I think the vibe I was aiming for was The Matrix but I looked more like the Gestapo guy from Allo Allo.

We are laughing at this...I think it's the comparison to the bloke from 'Allo 'Allo to be honest

Well that was one hell of an impulse spend

Always be ready to be kicked off. We've been with our Dentist as NHS for 10 years and never missed an appointment. They've now taken all NHS patients off their books (children included). We can't find another NHS dentist anywhere near us and so pay a fortune each month for their plan until we make it to the top of an NHS waiting list somewhere.

Bigpinktrain · 17/02/2023 08:05

Nothing as exciting as that happened to me.
I think the wildest thing I’ve done (pre kids) was go on a date with my now husband, get talking about places we want to go, and then within 5hrs we are at the airport getting on a flight to Amsterdam. I was 19 at the time, best weekend of my life.

Fast forward many years and on our way out to lunch, we see a kitten in a pet shop window that was clawing at the glass and we couldn’t just walk by so went in and brought her. She much more ££ than lunch at the cafe!

I went out to buy a takeaway and found myself DP.

Long story short, I decided to pop into the venue opposite the Japanese restaurant/takeaway for the first time whilst I was waiting, got talking to the guy who ran it, found myself joining a band, the usual guitarist dropped out six months later on the day of a gig, his mate agreed to dep, bounced up onto my stage, grinned and said hello...

All because I fancied a treat instead of beans on toast.

Ok - I think this wins. You actually found yourself another human on an impulse! Whatever about leather coats, Lidl middle aisle boats or cars this one, in my opinion wins 🏆

Spudlet · 17/02/2023 08:07

Bloody hell, an NHS dentist. There are none of those left in our area, none at all. Even the private ones are mostly no longer taking on patients. I had to ring around the houses to find one that was taking new patients and would accept a nervous Nelly and child with ASD (our NHS dentist went private and delisted us), and we’re now saving up for the first visit in a couple of months…!

Enjoy your shiny white gnashers OP 😁

LookItsMeAgain · 17/02/2023 08:08

Do Gifs not work on MN???? My earlier reply to @DanteThunderstone just looks silly now if it's a static picture of the woman who spits out her drink when she is laughing. Now it just looks like a random woman having a cup of tea or something. Bad show MN....bad show.

LadyLaLaa · 17/02/2023 08:09

@amarante I buy the gel from my dentist, it costs about £30 a tube.

Moveoverdarlin · 17/02/2023 08:09

If you’ve never done it before, teeth whitening that first time you do it is brilliant. Makes a massive difference.

LostidentityM · 17/02/2023 08:12

Teeth whitening trays are a great investment. I got mine at a discount as I had a friend but my teeth look great as a result (and I think they looked good before!). I always get compliments! Certainly something I'd recommend.
