Lion King, Les Mis, or Mousetrap?

Or something else?

DH and I are planning a special treat - a night in London and a theatre trip. We don't mind if it is a musical or play.
What would you recommend?

I've looked at the ads/trailers. Not convinced by 2:22 Ghost Story, but Witness for the Prosecution looks good.
I like Shakespeare, but we are not going to the Globe on this occasion.

Les Mis , far outdid my expectations, Mousetrap is touring this year so you might be able to catch it closer to home . Personal favourite I would say Hamilton , but check the songs to see if you like the music type , or Bat out of Hell if you want an over the top extravaganza but again only if the songs appeal .

Les Mis or Lion King loved both shows

weegiemum · 15/02/2023 20:41

I don't get the Les Mis love, I saw it and found it really boring (and I usually love musicals!). I liked the Lion King and loved The Mousetrap, the theatre itself is wonderful and the play good, the history of it is a great thing to be a tiny part of as well.

Witness was really good when we went we had "cheap seats" in the gallery and still the view was great but we really want to go again and take my mum and Mil as you can pay a premium and be sat in/be on the jury! Great fun!

The setting is the old court house at county all so all feels very real too. The building is right next to the London eye, some lovely restaurants/bars around it

I really enjoyed lion king and was not at all disappointed however i LOVE the music, story ans everything about les mis.

I love agatha christie and liked the mousetrap but was my least favourite of the 3.

Also must note how AMAZING wicked is, and phantom, both of which ive seen numerous times

Stillcountingbeans · 15/02/2023 20:48

ooh, yes, Wicked was also on the short-list. Is is a bit childish/pantomime-ish?

I have seen Les Mis and the Mousetrap. Both were excellent but would definitely pick Les Mis.

badg3r · 15/02/2023 20:49

The lion king is really really terrible. I have seen a lot of shows and it was down there in my worst five. Don't put yourself through it!!

FloofyDuck · 15/02/2023 20:50

Les Mis from your 3 choices. It’s brilliant. But Hamilton is the greatest production I’ve ever seen and would pick that over even Les Mis.

It isn't childish or pantomime- ish!

There were two parts that made my ds absolutely jump out of his skin! 😂

badg3r · 15/02/2023 20:51

Wicked is not childish or pantomime-ish but I would say that I felt the lion king was.

fireplacetiles · 15/02/2023 20:52

Seen all of these and a big Les Mis fan but Moulin Rouge is the best show in the West End currently 😍

spangleswereace · 15/02/2023 20:52

Wicked is fab, would definitely recommend but my absolute favourite is Les Mis - just stunning.

Mummyofdoggies · 15/02/2023 20:54

We enjoyed the play that goes wrong

Stillcountingbeans · 15/02/2023 20:56

Is Hamilton the one done in rap music? If so, probably not for us.

northernlola · 15/02/2023 20:57

Les Mis, amazing.

Lion King and Wicked less so.

As above, the Play That Goes Wrong was very funny!

But... Les Mis.

WaltzingWaters · 15/02/2023 20:57

Les mis. It’s phenomenal.

Nugg · 15/02/2023 20:57

Les Mis all day every day! Amazing!

Pinkbonbon · 15/02/2023 20:59

Wicked did awe me at the beginning and in parts but honestly I was bored for a part of it.

I loved 2.22 but maybe morseso because tom felton was it when I went. It was good but they relied too much on scare noises when at parts it would have been more poignant to not use them. But it's quick and fun for an evening and you can get seats pretty cheap.

Pinkbonbon · 15/02/2023 21:00

*in it

Stillcountingbeans · 15/02/2023 21:00

Moulin Rouge - meh; I saw the film, and whilst I love Nicole Kidman I didn't think the story or music were that great.

The Women in black is good very simple scary ghost story

pizzaHeart · 15/02/2023 21:02

I agree with PP that some of them might be on tour close to you so I’d double check.
