I recommend the recent Newsagents podcast for sensible analysis on this

Thanks @MissConductUS they don't seem to have any intel

Given that they are still trying to locate the wreckage, that's understandable.

But where is the fun in that.

I'm liking the pp posters suggestion that it is an elaborate plan to prevent a return first visit to the moon because they haven't got the technology

See, despite my love of conspiracy theories I don’t tend to believe them at all… but… saying that… I’m still sceptical that man has ever been to the moon!

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/02/2023 23:49

I don't believe it either. I don't believe it with the same strength as I don't believe the world is flat.

I do believe that there is extra terrestrial life and I think we as a race are arrogant to think otherwise.

sets off the MN tinfoil hat alarm.

We have been to the moon. We went to the moon with less technology than people now carry around in their handbag or pocket in a mobile phone.

But we were told to get off - and stay off - the moon in 1972 and that's why we've never been back since.

vera99 · 13/02/2023 23:57

What I am most intrigued by at this point is the massive difference in the amount of information released by the US authorities between the first incident (confidently described as a balloon, and China named as the chief suspect from the off), and the other three.

They have simply been described as ‘objects’, with one high rank Pentagon brass more or less stating they were unclear as to how the objects were sustaining themselves in flight. It sounds as if they weren’t using a balloon, line the first one.

Perhaps they’ve encountered a new-technology aerial vehicle the Chinese have conjured up, and are too flabbergasted and embarrassed to admit to the public they don’t what they fuck they’re dealing with?

On paper it sounds a little bit far fetched, but then again I can think of no better explanation for the continuing secrecy and lack of information from the US government, in particular when compared with the much greater transparency about the first incident.

You make some very good points in this post.

But no country has any tech that is capable of sustaining a slow, steady and sustained altitude with no visible evidence of what's powering it at that kind of height (or any other, to be honest). They aren't drones or jets . . . they're just "objects", by the admission of the USA military who, as you suggest, don't know what they are. They've said this.

It's not too hard to believe the first one - the actual Chinese balloon - was just a step, a platform, to introduce the concept of the other craft that have been shot down because it gives a narrative. The high-minded, pious, know it all attitude pervasive here is reflective of society in general with regards to this kind of thing. They like to take the piss and make a joke out of it because they are unable to think of things outside of arguing with their fellow Queen B nemesis at the school gates, why their husband pisses on the floor or which size dildo to buy or if it's acceptable to buy own brand fish fingers instead of Birdseye.

Until their world is turned upside down, of course.

Embelline · 14/02/2023 00:18

@Winnet you’re very determined that the world is going to be turned upside down aren’t you? Having said that I enjoyed your post about the “moon landing” I’ve never heard that theory before - that we were told to get off and stay off.

Told by whom? And if so, why has Artemis been funded? The first unmanned test flight took place last November.

Greenshake · 14/02/2023 00:23

You do realise, @Winnet, that a lot of people are scared by all this and are trying to mask or rationalise that fear with humour?

Embelline · 14/02/2023 00:27

@Greenshake I think winnet knows this full well and enjoys putting the fear of god (and aliens!) into people 😁

JaneJeffer · 14/02/2023 00:37

It is never acceptable unless you want to feed them to aliens so that they'll piss off.

Winnet · 14/02/2023 00:48

Greenshake · 14/02/2023 00:23

What? Masking it with a grin, like chimps?

I can appreciate that people are starting to get a little bit worried - the unknown tends to do that. The sad fact is that the very same people have treated this subject with a healthy dose of scepticism and ridicule . . . their "humour" . . . . because they think they know better than everyone else. Yet now it's starting to stare them in the face and they have to come to terms with it. Everything is okay until it's not okay. You believe what you want to believe until an actual fact is put in front of you that disproves it.

@Embelline - I am determined for no such thing; I couldn't actually give a toss. I also don't think whoever - or whatever - is on the way is the problem. I think we, as humans, are.

If it ever gets out . . . . one word of confirmation that the alloy of the metal of the downed "objects" isn't of this planet, one that says it belongs to no country here or that it's technology nobody has ever seen changes everything. And not necessarily for the worst, either, but you know what we're like, us homo sapiens. We'll make the worst of it.

Still, as long as you can still get your fish fingers and dildos and your husband wipes up his pee off the floor . . . .

vera99 · 14/02/2023 01:13

Evolution suggests life far from becoming more civilised and peaceful becomes the opposite. So if life has come from far away planets with undreamt of technology that would facilitate that why would it be so easily identified and shot down. It would suspect that the probability that it is human is 99.99999999%. There is an outside possibility that its not a state actor but some Elon Musk billionaire type pranking the world because they can. There is a reason that in the UK we had to rip out Huawei kit from our 5G network at great cost and Canada arrested the daughter of the founder much to the annoyance of the Chinese. That video I posted above and an article in the Telegraph today highlights a certain amount od diplomatic disfunction maybe as a result of Xi's dictatorial approach and played a part in the Blinken visit cancellation.

MissConductUS · 14/02/2023 01:45

Were you unaware of the Artemis program, @Winnet? Please tell us more about the prohibition on lunar travel.

I am one of the idiots reading this thread at 1 in the morning, getting carried away and freaking out that aliens were about to invade hahah
Now in the cold light of day I realise it’s probably just more American distraction/propaganda, and I’m mostly annoyed I lost a night sleep falling for it.

vera99 · 14/02/2023 11:49

The US has known about this stuff for ages and apparently everyone is doing it. So the question to be asked is why now ?

The why now is because now radar can pick up things it couldn't previously.
