DP thinks they are Chinese and they know they’re Chinese but after being warned last time about shooting the balloon down, they don’t want to admit they know it was Chinese and still shot the others down as it could be takin as an act of aggression when tensions are already high.

Not sure what he’s basing this on or whether I buy it at all!

Embelline · 13/02/2023 08:23

He also thinks now the radar has changed and picked up more objects they’ve realised the Chinese have been successfully spying on them for ages with technology they were unaware of and are completely panicked…

More to the point though where are they getting the helium? 🤔

Are they visible from the ground?

The large one that started all this - yes, which is why IMHO it's unlikely that large balloons have been overflying the States unreported for any length of time.

As for the radar, and small targets:

[speculate] if anything has changed it's possibly not the ability detect small objects that has been tweaked. It's more likely to be a speed issue.. Returns from very slow moving targets get filtered out in many primary radar systems before they reach the display to avoid cluttering up the picture with weather returns, flocks of birds, etc

I wonder if given current events some of the filtering on some systems has been tweaked so that returns from objects travelling at slow speed at altitude now do get displayed [/speculation]

We've been programmed that UFOs are nonsense and people that even try to ask questions are nutters.
Now the press are calling these things UFOs.

Of course they're UFOs. They're Unidentified Flying Objects. UFO =/= aliens.

Rinoachicken · 13/02/2023 08:57

All this has reminded me of this scene from the west wing 😉

I'm fully aware of what the term 'UFO' means but it is inextricably linked with aliens in the public consciousness and that's why they now call them UAPs.

FannyChmelar · 13/02/2023 09:14

Well the things the public need distracting from right now are:

  • Biden blowing up the Nordstream pipeline to make Europe dependent on US for energy
  • Epstein’s files
  • The massively increased excess death rates in many countries following a recent “safe and effective” minor medical procedure

They’re rolling out the big guns with this alien invasion nonsense.

Teaandtoast3 · 13/02/2023 09:43

@FannyChmelar what “safe and effective” medical procedure?

jaundicedoutlook · 13/02/2023 09:57

Teaandtoast3 · 13/02/2023 09:43

@FannyChmelar what “safe and effective” medical procedure?

The tinfoil hat attachment procedure.

WandaWonder · 13/02/2023 10:01

If they are heading for earth looking for intelligent life I think we are all pretty safe, they will head elsewhere

Embelline · 13/02/2023 10:05

@Teaandtoast3 I would think something very recent that had a fair bit of controversy around it and spawned a lot of conspiracy theories

The Biden accusation was made up by a blogger. Please quantify "massively increased".

The Chinese have tik tok on most of the worlds phones ready to send back data on a mass scale. The balloons are probably just to distract us from the real elephant in the room.

Well I guess if the Chinese what to keep an eye on the carp that's on social media with tik tic that's fine but not much practical use when it comes to helping with kinetic warfare.

Some people may think the balloons may be a distraction but they may definitely have serious applications.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/02/2023 11:16

Holy fuck, I've just turned on Sky and Rishi is telling us he will keep rather country safe with Typhoons

Teaandtoast3 · 13/02/2023 11:23

I thought they routinely used Typhoons. Why’s that freaking you out? I feel i am missing something?

Teaandtoast3 · 13/02/2023 11:25

^^ I would imagine Sunak has to say something in regard to current affairs?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/02/2023 11:29

It just felt so weird to switch on the TV and have him talking about protecting the country, seemed a step nearer to some of the crazy theories we have been discussing.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/02/2023 11:30

I think because it was Sunak, he has been the invisible PM for a long time, but you are right he should be talking about current affairs.

Justanotherlurker · 13/02/2023 11:30

Not the OP and not discussing the OP you replied to but 'blogger' is not how one would describe Seymour Hersh.

Agreed.

AFAIK the Typhoon is still the standard UK air defence fighter and as has been the case for years there will be several armed up on standby 24/7 to help monitor UK airspace, defend the UK etc..really no surprise there.

I guess somebody has asked him for comment about the balloons (it's current affairs I guess), the PM gave the standard answer...
