Am I missing something with this house?

Location yes. Land yes. But is it really worth the millions of pounds to buy?

Would anyone here buy it? Just help me out here

Stamp duty alone on that price £265,250 !

Needs a lot of tarting up inside as well by the look of the photos

puppacup · 10/02/2023 18:37

But I live in SW London so I’m going to have a particular perspective on property prices ie they are getting absurd around here and £2.95M would not buy anything large or interesting.

You can can defo get a large house in SW London for 3 million 🙄

puppacup · 10/02/2023 18:37

So interesting to see what’s behind closed doors. Sitting on that much money but living in such terrible conditions, would like to know the backstory.

Bought it years ago & house price inflation.

RemoteControlDoobry · 10/02/2023 18:47

I do really understand why you think it would be valued at less. It seems very reasonable.

MissWings · 10/02/2023 18:48

That’s a gold mine with that location. Lots of profit to be made after a reno.

TheFireflies · 10/02/2023 18:52

It looks dystopian. Like the sort of abandoned house you’d explore in a post-apocalyptic video game.

However, the location is beautiful and the land alone worth a considerable sum.

AstroTurd · 10/02/2023 18:56

I absolutely love it. It would be a crying shame to knock that down. In the imaginary universe in which I live in the New Forest and have some spare millions, I'd buy it and turn it back into the fabulous house that it deserves to be, and I'd then live in it and have ponies and grandchildren roaming around in the six acres.

I agree with you. The damp is horrendous too. Gave me a weird feeling looking through those pics 😂🤯

Me too 😂 I would feel uncomfortable staying in this house but I can't put my finger on it.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 10/02/2023 19:07

Well of course it is. Ideal for horsey people. You'd knock the house down and start again.

Welfast · 10/02/2023 19:12

Smashing opportunity there

diddl · 10/02/2023 19:15

All those books in a damp room!😰

illiterato · 10/02/2023 19:19

Burley is in the most beautiful location. I drove through it earlier this week as DD had a netball match that way. I forgot how stunning the New Forest really is. Burley is prob also the most sought after NF village. You’d be surprised how many multi million pound houses there are in the NF/ Poole/ Studland stretch.

Blossomtoes · 10/02/2023 19:23

Potentially beautiful house with lots of land in one of the most desirable and expensive parts of the country. I can completely see why it’s got that price tag. Hopefully the local planning department won’t give permission for developing the site or demolishing the house. It needs a lot of love and money.

Nah. Way more marketable places here in the new forest. That's what I feel. Burley is lovely but in the middle of nowhere. Also you've got the festival which is a nightmare!

Ha- where’s your fave place in the NF?

isthismylifenow · 10/02/2023 19:35

Oh I would buy that if I had loads of money.

But why are there triangles above some of the doors?

And the room with all the books ...

When I looked at the pics I got a feeling it was a busy and full home for a long time, and is now just empty. Which is a bit sad.

BMW6 · 10/02/2023 19:40

I'd love to buy it and restore it faithfully for the period (Edwardian?)

Would need a good few million in the bank after purchasing though.

Xol · 10/02/2023 19:48

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/02/2023 17:02

It’ll go to a developer and be razed to the ground, with several built in its place.

I doubt they'd be given planning permission for that, but they might make it into several different houses and flats within the existing shell.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 10/02/2023 20:14

PIL sold a property in same area some years ago and price was similarly bonkers - but a bit less as smaller - and it was quite hideous but had loads of land and therefore development potential and was snapped up. Totally crazy. There’s a buyer for everything.

YukoandHiro · 10/02/2023 20:16

I mean, it's absolutely vast.
I wouldn't want a big job like that personally but clearly the land and property is worth that. Would need at least a million spent refurbing though

Nocutenamesleft · 10/02/2023 20:20

illiterato · 10/02/2023 19:33

Oh. I love Lyndhurst. Brockenhurst. Not in the new forest but Avon castle is a beautiful community in ringwood. My absolute all time fave is beaulieu though.

My FIL lives in a big pile in the New Forest and he wanted to add a small extension to the study. It was a no. He had planning consultants the lot, no development allowed in the national park. I think it’s a big West London retreat (as are a few of his neighbours).

Throwncrumbs · 10/02/2023 20:46

It in Burley, it’s in a conservation area. It in a beautiful place. I love it, wild pigs or horses in your garden…great!

watchingpullimgepisode6 · 10/02/2023 21:56

Bloody hell
They'd have been rude not to show any of the interior
You could buy my whole street and all the cars for that price

BasiliskStare · 10/02/2023 23:46

That house needs a shit load pf money spending - If that suits someone so be it but whether allowing it to be knocked down and more houses built - I do not know. FIL lived near Southampton and we used to go to the New Forest . I think ( only think ) don't know , a bit like there are strict planning laws in the Lake District
