Who still has lockdown stockpiled stuff to use up? Own up!

DD has just finished the huge box of glasses wipes which was bought on amazon near the start of lockdown. To be honest I accidentally bought a much bigger pack than I had intended to, but with all the crazy buying that was happening, who will admit to still having lockdown purchases that haven't been used yet, what are they, and when will you use them?

I still have a shit load of hand gel.

Londono · 09/02/2023 15:35

I've got some yeast, it is only one packet but I only bought it because our local shop finally had some and I got carried away. I've never used yeast...

MollyMunster · 09/02/2023 15:35

I have a tin of peaches I still haven’t used.

I’ll save them for a fruit emergency, they won’t go off.

Astrid01 · 09/02/2023 15:37

I've got bottled water and paracetamol.
I can't remember why I stocked up on water but I'm sure there was something in the news about water shortages

MaryDerry · 09/02/2023 15:39

There's a pack of 9 loo rolls stashed in our attic store. I dare not use them.... just in case...

Xiaoxiong · 09/02/2023 15:40

I have about 15kg of flour, and I'm baking so much less than I did during lockdown it's going to take me years to get through it all.

Magenta65 · 09/02/2023 15:42

Luckily not much other than hand wipes/gel but i do still use these daily. We were sensible and stopped stocking up when stores started to have a better availability of items

containsnuts · 09/02/2023 15:46

Tinned brussels sprouts. At one stage they were literally the only vegetable in the shops so I bought a few incase I couldn't get anything else. There still in the cupboard.

purplecorkheart · 09/02/2023 15:47

I am another person who has a load of yeast. None of the shops around us had it in stock. Eventually I ordered some from Holland and either I made a mistake or they did but I have enough to supply a bakery. I have a feeling the mistake was at their end as it cost them more to send it to me that I paid for the yeast and postage.

PuttingDownRoots · 09/02/2023 15:48

I have two boxes of Covid tests. Ordered when the school was asking for daily testing but you could only get limited amounts on the system.

StaceySolomonSwash · 09/02/2023 15:48

Bread flour and dried yeast.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/02/2023 15:48

I think the other question should be: who is still washing their groceries and quarantining their post!

Exactly the same here!

jtaeapa · 09/02/2023 15:50

I literally have nothing - busy family, everything gets used very quickly.

Chikapu · 09/02/2023 15:51

Just two bags of pasta and it's still good till next year.

FuckabethFuckor · 09/02/2023 15:52

Giving some of you lot the hard eye. (Somewhat lightheartedly but not entirely.) Those early weeks of lockdown were made infinitely harder when panic-buying meant we couldn’t get basic stuff.

edwinbear · 09/02/2023 15:56

I have lots of face masks still, plus boxes and boxes of tests I stocked up on before they stopped being free (which I am still using if anyone feels ill). Plus a huge assortment of garden sun loungers, paddling pools, water pistols and sports equipment for exercising at home which is barely used

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2023 15:58

I have small bottles of hand gel in every bloody bag I own !

Rebellious23 · 09/02/2023 15:59

Not really
I still use masks and tests so have some of those and actually ordered new tests last week

Yeah, not funny. Just before lockdown our local supermarket looked like a marauding army had been through - I was still working up to lockdown and trying to make meals out of what was left in the evenings after the hordes had been through (not much) - and a few weeks later local twitter accounts were showing pics of dustbins full of unopened food that had been bought in a panic and then binned.

Cookerhood · 09/02/2023 16:02

Nothing stockpiled but I have just cleared out hundreds of plastic bags that came with the shopping deliveries every week. There were 6 of us & we had Tesco every week. It's literally hundreds that I will never use.

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2023 16:02

That was something we didn't do was stockpile food, although we did stop doing the monthly shop because we didn't want tutted at in the shops for stockpiling food!

AcrossthePond55 · 09/02/2023 16:02

Paper goods & PPE. We're slowing dwindling them down but will keep a bit 'just in case' and we still do wear masks occasionally if we're going to be in really crowded enclosed spaces (DH is considered vulnerable).

We also have Covid tests but as seniors we're entitled to 8 free tests per month. We don't really have them 'stockpiled' but we keep enough on hand for family members to test before we have a family gathering. My DBro, DS1, & DiL had Covid over Xmas, so they came in handy.

Food is pretty much gone, except for a few cans of soup. We didn't really experience food shortages locally, other than random things that would disappear from the shelves then reappear a couple of weeks later. But our local merchants were really good about rationing early on to avoid panic buying.

Xiaoxiong · 09/02/2023 16:03

@FuckabethFuckor I got the flour in a 20kg bag from our local bakery that was selling off their stock in industrial quantities to whoever could pick up, because it was going to go off sooner than they would be allowed to bake it. In case that was aimed at me.

Our local paper showed that as well. The photos were taken outside student accommodation and the students had gone home as the halls closed at short notice.
