Who still has lockdown stockpiled stuff to use up? Own up!

DD has just finished the huge box of glasses wipes which was bought on amazon near the start of lockdown. To be honest I accidentally bought a much bigger pack than I had intended to, but with all the crazy buying that was happening, who will admit to still having lockdown purchases that haven't been used yet, what are they, and when will you use them?

Giving some of you lot the hard eye. (Somewhat lightheartedly but not entirely.) Those early weeks of lockdown were made infinitely harder when panic-buying meant we couldn’t get basic stuff.

Agreed, it was ridiculous behaviour.

BigButtons · 09/02/2023 16:05

I never stockpiled anything. It’s dreadful, selfish behaviour.

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2023 16:05

I still have masks if I'm at the Dr's or chiropodist they ask for them, I don't mind wearing 1.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/02/2023 16:05

Our local paper showed that as well. The photos were taken outside student accommodation and the students had gone home as the halls closed at short notice

My brother in Oz called me just after lockdown hit. I said judging by the state of the shops I'm more likely to die of starvation than covid.

Sugarfree23 · 09/02/2023 16:06

Covid tests and masks.

For those with flour it does apparently go stale, and has a BBE date, sugar however does not appear to have a BBE date on it.

Guess who cleaned out a cupboard recently.

PauliString · 09/02/2023 16:06

We still have some accidental carrot-and-coriander soup. I'm waiting to lose my sense of taste in the next pandemic before I eat that. Can't stand coriander.

MaverickGooseGoose · 09/02/2023 16:09

A shut load of covid tests but only because h brought them home from school when they were daily testing.

Didn't stockpile anything else, we were able to switch to local suppliers and didn't have a problem getting anything.

megletthesecond · 09/02/2023 16:10

I'm finishing my Brexit and lockdown stash too. Mostly tinned goods. Kids making bread with the last of the old yeast.

Minikievs · 09/02/2023 16:11

Masks and a couple of boxes of Covid tests that the kids brought home from school. That's it really. Oh and 1 bottle of calpol left. I think I bought three at once

Also a £200 set of barbell and weights, used once 🙄

CrystalCoco · 09/02/2023 16:12

We've still got a couple of packets macaroni but tbh I think it's because we've for some reason gone off it so it's not been used up like it usually would.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 09/02/2023 16:13

I can genuinely say 'not guilty'. We bought 1 extra multi-pack of loo rolls when it appeared there might be a shortage, and they're long since gone.

ShinyPikachu · 09/02/2023 16:14

We've not long finished the last of the bar soap I bought in lockdown. We couldn't get liquid stuff but there was loads of bar soap in huge multipacks so we just bought one multipack and it took ages to go through. It probably saved us a fortune on liquid soaps though (although we have both now as I prefer the bar but DC prefer the liquid).

Reinventinganna · 09/02/2023 16:15

We didn’t stockpile anything. I still don’t understand why people did.

shard5 · 09/02/2023 16:15

We have loads of testing kits with both teens were given weekly in highschool.
They used to test three times a week but each box has 7 tests so loads left over. The school had piles and piles to give out to families so kids were sent home every week with more and more.

BarryK3nt · 09/02/2023 16:16

I never stocked up on anything, all the supermarket chief execs were asking us not to. I still cannot believe how greedy and selfish some people were.

KohlaParasaurus · 09/02/2023 16:22

We've nearly worked our way through the cans and packets I'd gradually stashed in the months before Brexit. I'm not sure what I thought was going to happen.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/02/2023 16:24

Cookerhood · 09/02/2023 16:02

Nothing stockpiled but I have just cleared out hundreds of plastic bags that came with the shopping deliveries every week. There were 6 of us & we had Tesco every week. It's literally hundreds that I will never use.

Donate them to a food bank or charity shop. Some really struggle with having bags to send food parcels out in.

Topseyt123 · 09/02/2023 16:24

I didn't stockpile anything. I was rather worried about the state of the supermarkets though as you could never guarantee what you could get from one day to the next and they all looked like a plague of locusts had gone through them.

Weightlossanne · 09/02/2023 16:25

I never had a covid stash though the Brexit stash came in very handy.

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2023 15:58

I have small bottles of hand gel in every bloody bag I own !

Me too!!! And ones with the kids names on which they wouldn't be seen dead with now 😂

Daleksatemyshed · 09/02/2023 16:28

Tinned brussel sprouts @containsnuts , what were you thinking? Throw them away!😂

BigButtons · 09/02/2023 16:30

Reinventinganna · 09/02/2023 16:15

We didn’t stockpile anything. I still don’t understand why people did.

Agreed- I wondered what people were doing buying their own body weight in pasta and flour- apart from getting fatter.
god knows why anyone would actually admit to being so anti social and leaving nothing for others.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 09/02/2023 16:31

We didn't stock pile anything because we're not selfish.

puppacup · 09/02/2023 16:31

I'm surprised if anyone admits to this even though the media had lots of stories re waste. Apparently every prepper on MNs doesn't panic buy & rotates the pantry shelves 🤔
