Who still has lockdown stockpiled stuff to use up? Own up!

DD has just finished the huge box of glasses wipes which was bought on amazon near the start of lockdown. To be honest I accidentally bought a much bigger pack than I had intended to, but with all the crazy buying that was happening, who will admit to still having lockdown purchases that haven't been used yet, what are they, and when will you use them?

Giving some of you lot the hard eye. (Somewhat lightheartedly but not entirely.) Those early weeks of lockdown were made infinitely harder when panic-buying meant we couldn’t get basic stuff.

Me too. I'll never forget the faces of the OAPs crying while looking on empty shelves the Friday before lockdown happened in the Asda local to us.

I have a packet of 24 toilet roll in the cus (cupboard under the stairs) which I bought in summer 2020 when there was plenty again.
I have about 20 packets of antibacterial wipes because I got into the habit of always buying 2 packets when I went to Wilco in 2020/2021.
I also have 2 large hand gel (5 litre) which I got in September 2020 for dd to take one back to uni and they were cheaper if I bought a pair. I still have one by our door and we're only about 1/2 way through the first.

I'm surprised if anyone admits to this even though the media had lots of stories re waste. Apparently every prepper on MNs doesn't panic buy & rotates the pantry shelves 🤔

Which is exactly what I do/did. I've nothing left that was stored before the pandemic. But I wouldn't need to go shopping if there was another lot of panic buying. Yanno, like a prepper does.

We'd still get the blame for empty shelves though.🙄

IloveRickyGervaisAndHisTeeth · 09/02/2023 17:14

Some of us never stock-piled anything! (No wonder there were shortages of some stuff in shops).

Topseyt123 · 09/02/2023 17:16

Tinned sprouts! I didn't even know there was such a thing! 🙄🤣

Auldandknackered · 09/02/2023 17:20

We didn’t panic buy. I always am incredulous and appalled at the folks who do.

we do however have a few tests and a lot of masks which my husbands work sent him.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 09/02/2023 17:20

@containsnuts you carry on stockpiling the brussel sprouts. In fact, it's a community service, we owe you one!!

Dareisayimonetoo · 09/02/2023 17:23

Flour but only because I couldn’t get any and Squires were selling large bags so I got one of plain and one of SR.

Humanwoman · 09/02/2023 17:24

We never stockpiled but our neighbours who moved out in the autumn had to empty their garage the back wall of which was stacked with packs of 9 loo rolls.

Bepis · 09/02/2023 17:25

Nothing. I've never had anything stockpiled as it's not fair to other people. I only bought what I needed at the time.

Sarahcoggles · 09/02/2023 17:25

Cookerhood · 09/02/2023 16:02

Nothing stockpiled but I have just cleared out hundreds of plastic bags that came with the shopping deliveries every week. There were 6 of us & we had Tesco every week. It's literally hundreds that I will never use.

You know you can recycle them?

Jellycatspyjamas · 09/02/2023 17:30

I have loads of lateral flow tests, I’m a social worker and was given a stack every time I went into the office. I also have some tinned fruit which I bought when I couldn’t get fresh fruit, my kids decided no pears was better than tinned. Otherwise I always have a stock of baking stuff which we get through so maybe a random tub of baking powder.

My freezer and cupboards always have enough food to cobble together meals for a week or two so shortages didn’t affect us much.

BrutusMcDogface · 09/02/2023 17:31

Absolutely not, as I didn’t stockpile.

plumduck · 09/02/2023 17:35

GCAcademic · 09/02/2023 15:33

I still have a shit load of hand gel.

Same. Near "the end" boots were randomly putting it some of their parcels to try and shift it I think.

Tamarindtree · 09/02/2023 17:39

No stockpiling here at all.

Just incredibly selfish thing for anyone to do unless there was was a medical need or baby milk.

bluechameleon · 09/02/2023 17:01

We are still working our way through the ready mixed paint and PVA glue. Everywhere had sold out of the sensibly-sized bottles so I bought 5L ones. Turns out it takes 2 children quite a while to get through 5L of glue and 25L of paint...

Omg, you’ve just reminded me how looking for paint for my children is what made it all hit home for me, and I cried and cried! At the time I thought I was being ridiculous crying over paint shortages, but that was just the catalyst.

CornedBeef451 · 09/02/2023 17:46

I still have an enormous bottle of hand gel I bought when I couldn't get anything smaller. I don't think I'll get through it before I die unless I start bathing in it.

Rainbow1901 · 09/02/2023 17:49

No stockpiling here but did have a few days worry when I was identified as at risk due to chemo treatment.
But I had two deliveries of food boxes which helped. Plus the milkman who added meat and veg boxes to his delivery rounds. Once I was added to the local governments register could order online and cancel the boxes so need to panic buy anything.

brillianthopefulness · 09/02/2023 16:27

Me too!!! And ones with the kids names on which they wouldn't be seen dead with now 😂

Oh my friend made those with the clips, she has empty bottles and clips she can't give them away !

mouse70 · 09/02/2023 17:51

Bag of dried egg powder!!!! (Have no idea when or what I will use it for)
Whole experience changed my store cupboard management. Prior to 2020 I would only have a few tins in store cupboard and would shop weekly for everything. Now I shop on line monthly and have at least two bags/packs/tins of store cupboard staples, once 1 st opened/used I buy/order replacement to keep stock level up.
I also have unused hand made cotton face masks of various colours and designes crafted from patters found on internet.

brillianthopefulness · 09/02/2023 17:52

@Mrsjayy Yes those are the ones!!! 😂

dudsville · 09/02/2023 17:53

Just hand gel. We didn't stockpile, i just bought more than we needed as i didn't realise how much we would actually use.

pleasemindyourmanners · 09/02/2023 17:55

Not so much stock pile as desperate buys when there was nothing on the shelves. I bought some smash. However, a neighbour brought us a bag of tatties the next day so the smash stayed untouched.

puppacup · 09/02/2023 17:56

@gamerchick yeah but you're not every prepper are you? I remember reading posts similar to yours saying we don't panic buy we always have stock in as opposed to reacting to news, panic buyers are the ones who react to the news. And yet after news of food shortages there were lots of posts springing up on the prepped board...😆

There's this weird belief that panic buying is what other people do. A bit like the lockdown threads of "I was walking my dog & the park was so busy", or "I was food shopping & the supermarket was so busy, don't people realise there's a lockdown"!

Spacie · 09/02/2023 17:56

Amateurs!
I still have stuff from the Millennium Bug 😂
