6.2 mmol

Taken at 5pm, after eating a Turkish delight at 3.30pm and a nectarine and a chocolate mousse dessert at 4pm

Thanks in advance

Yep

user1455735072 · 07/02/2023 17:20

Yes.
Surprisingly.

OldTrot · 07/02/2023 17:20

@user1455735072 oh don't. That made me lol

Mine went up to 10.5 after risotto and rhubarb crumble last night!

Twentywisteria · 07/02/2023 17:58

Why are you taking your blood sugar if a doctor hasn't told you what's normal?

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 07/02/2023 18:04

Yes it’s fine.
Have you been asked to check blood sugar? If you’re worried about possibly being a diabetic I would recommend getting a HbA1C blood test done which would give you your 3 month sugar levels and a clear indication of any issues

OldTrot · 07/02/2023 18:07

No no, it's just part of the Zoe testing so nothing weird going on. Just trying to get my head round it as it's day 1

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool ooh I recognise your name! I'll be posting on your thread when I get going

And yikes to 10.5!

OP posts:
SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:18

I’ve remembered that the 10.5 was just after the risotto, so the rhubarb crumble wasn’t even involved!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:19

@OldTrot Do post on it, so we can compare notes!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:20

@Idontgiveagriffindamn Are you diabetic? I had a reading of 3.8 the other evening and wasn’t sure if I should be worried.

Keep an eye on it. That seems to be getting to the higher level of normal.

Twentywisteria · 07/02/2023 18:22

Threads like this are exactly why buying tests online without medical supervision isn't recommended.

GP surgeries are full of worried well going in to discuss these tests when there's nothing wrong with them.

Endofmytether2020 · 07/02/2023 18:28

This really does my head in as the parent of a young person with type one diabetes. Yes, 6.2 mmol is completely normal. Wearing a libre isn't going to tell you very much unless you have diabetes as your blood glucose will be fluctuating within a tiny range and the margin of error on the kit means the data is pretty meaningless. I know you are just trying to do what's right for your health, but is just marketing which leverages equipment designed for people who actually have a medical condition and preys on the health anxiety of people who don't.

@Twentywisteria Are they, though? I’d be surprised if anyone went to their GP with a reading of 6.something. You do get guidance from Zoe about what the normal range is.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/02/2023 18:34

Yes.. it's actually really good considering all the sweet stuff!

Yeah they do. All the time. Along with "vitamin" tests, "allergy and intolerance" tests, "thyroid" tests and results from the likes of 23&me.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:34

@Endofmytether2020 I completely understand your perspective, and do worry that we might be reducing the availability of Libre monitors for people who really need them.
On the other hand, if it helps people to avoid developing type 2 diabetes, surely that’s a good thing? My blood sugar seems to be completely wild - lowest 3.8 and highest 10.5 in the past two days.

How would it prevent people from getting diabetes?

That range is totally normal BTW.

OldTrot · 07/02/2023 18:36

I didn't post to offend anyone, merely asking a question so thanks to those who have answered Smile

Are you a GP, @Twentywisteria ?

Surely avoiding food that you know causes big spikes in your blood sugar makes you less likely to become diabetic?

If you had undiagnosed diabetes your sugar would be high.

Blood sugars dip and raise as we eat and drink. That doesn’t mean we should panic.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:40

The reason I asked whether I should be worried about a reading of 3.8 was because it’s classed as a hypo on the Diabetes UK site. What I wasn’t sure about was whether it was only of concern if it kept happening.

lol!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 18:40

Why lol? It’s a genuine question, as I’m new to all this.
