6.2 mmol

Taken at 5pm, after eating a Turkish delight at 3.30pm and a nectarine and a chocolate mousse dessert at 4pm

Thanks in advance

I have noticed mine are in the 4.5s 1 hour after eating and don't know that is too low to exercise. Have been scouring the web for a guide on what is too 'low' to exercise so am finding ths thread helpful

Again, unless you’re a diagnosed diabetic there is no ‘too low’ for you. Your body will correct itself. Be thankful you’re not diabetic and just carry on eating healthily and exercising.

The info and levels for diabetes is very different as their bodies can’t correct their levels.

But why are you monitoring your blood sugar?

As another mum of a diabetic child I am genuinely not understanding a thread full of non diabetic people worrying about their blood sugar. Do you not have enough to worry about? I do.

I’m type 1 and I take no issue or offence at all. On the contrary the thing I do feel 🙄 about is just how much funding is poured into type 2 rather than our (much more dangerous and unavoidable!) type. If people want to monitor their sugars and pull them back before they reach an entrenched stage, then good for them (and me!).

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/02/2023 19:04

And yes no such thing as ‘too low’ unless you’re on synthetic insulin or clinically starving. Or a baby with congenital hyper insulinism or some other rare metabolic illness.

I’m so sorry this is upsetting you, @GoTeamRocket . Flowers

I am probably being over sensitive. It can just be so hard to manage. And there is no escape. I can't just 'forget' I am diabetic and not take insulin for a day, I would probably end up in hospital.

I think if Zoe are giving these out, there should ge proper supervision and support in place. There s so much misinformation out there about diabetes.

puppacup · 07/02/2023 19:04

@Crikeyalmighty who did you use can I ask?

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 19:04

It’s perfectly possible to develop T1 in later life, btw.

I think Zoe aren’t giving out medical advice precisely because they don’t want people to treat it as diagnostic. Of course, people will still Google madly…

I'm actually pre diabetic and trying to get a handle & awareness on my blood sugar and it's triggers to avoid it becoming type 2

Isn't normal range 4-7 ?

This is a good question. Different sources seem to give different advice. I was told 5.9 - 6.4 was pre-diabetes and 6.5 and over was diabetes. But I see now some sources are saying diabetes is over 7.

It's confusing.

I know, believe me I do - currently 31 weeks with
my second type 1 pregnancy and it is S.H.I.T.

God to be a healthy person again.

But, this isn’t the thread for us - if you start a type 1 whinge thread I will happily join and lend an ear.

Good for you! I can recommend the carbs and cals book for anyone who wants a ‘starting point’ for diet control.

Very true but it’s more unusual as an adult and it would become apparent very quickly. Usually ketoacidosis or even a coma, it’s an emergency.

The symptoms for type two are different and generally it’s much more common to be diagnosed T2 as an adult. Especially in later life.

Whiskyinajar · 07/02/2023 19:17

Zoe....is a clinical trial but you have to pay to take part. Not sure how ethical this is. Hugely expensive as well.

@Cuppasoupmonster When you said above 10 was definitely diabetic, were you serious?

YukoandHiro · 07/02/2023 19:19

Yes completely normal. Lucky you

Yep, very possible. I was diagnosed at 31, and my grandad was diagnosed in his 40s.

Yes absolutely, I’m type 1 and wouldn’t joke. Please see a doctor.

YukoandHiro · 07/02/2023 19:22

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool the 10 is fine as long as your body is dealing with the sugar. You should be 7.5 or lower an hour after eating ideally. But even if you're not it probably wouldn't even tip over to prediabetes unless it was happening all the time

Haha looking at some of these readings thinking that'd be a perfect day for me 🤣

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/02/2023 19:22

Thanks, both. I’ll keep an eye to see how quickly it drops back down.

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/02/2023 19:23

The table above is ‘target’ blood sugars, obviously a healthy person doesn’t have a ‘target’ so if after meals your blood sugar is above 7.8 you’re likely diabetic. And at over 10 I would be really surprised if you weren’t. Sorry xx

AdventFridgeOfShame · 07/02/2023 19:23

@Cuppasoupmonster as part of the research program HbA1c is done.
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04735835

Amipreg1 · 07/02/2023 19:23

Readings between 4 and 7 2 hours after food are ideal.
