Let's be positive too - what simple thing are you totally excellent at?

I love the thread about stuff you cannot do (I can't draw, or spell broccoli) but wanted to flip it; so what random talent do you have that sets you apart?

I am excellent at untying knots - tightly pulled wet trainer laces? Not an issue. Tangled necklace chain? LEAD ME TO IT it's so satisfying.

I am also oddly skilled at doing random maths (percentages and fractions) and understanding the rules of English punctuation (when to use a semi-colon). That last one is my job tho tbf so it's just as well. Grin

What about you?

I'm rather good at budgeting at grocery shopping and creating nice meals out of humble ingredients. I can also prune a mean rose bush.

DD is particularly good (and patient) at unravelling tangled necklaces.

DH is excellent at making custard.

DD's DP is a terrific singer, and really should make more of his talents.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/02/2023 13:34

Stacking washing up on the drainer.

Also good with semi-colons since you mention it.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/02/2023 13:35

I can do a rubix cube in under 2 mins. The 10 year old boys in my class appreciate my party trick. :)

I’m great at knots too and wonder if we have the same job.

PauliString · 04/02/2023 13:36

Anagrams!

Scottishflower65 · 04/02/2023 13:36

Excellent soup maker here. The family call me the soup dragon.

PauliString · 04/02/2023 13:36

Also semicolons, now you mention it.

123rd · 04/02/2023 13:36

I'm great at untangling stuff too. I really enjoy doing to !

fruitpastille · 04/02/2023 13:37

I can also do a rubiks cube but it takes me about 4 minutes! I don't think it takes much skill but my sponge cakes and gingerbread always get loads of compliments.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/02/2023 13:38

Filing.
Budgeting - actually managing to save a tenner a week on the shopping.
Not allowing downstair's neighbour's DS to wind me up over things.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 04/02/2023 13:38

I can create a tasty dinner from whatever is in. Including when I find myself feeding 5 extra kids at the last minute.

Crap at directions though. I can even get lost going to places I have been dozens of times before

Oooh and soupmaking, how could I forget that. Have just had a lovely homemade lentil soup for lunch.

Getting ready!

StephanieandKate · 04/02/2023 13:42

I'm really good at adding and subtracting from working in cash taking jobs before smart phones and electric tills.

I'm good at remembering door and phone numbers (but terrible with names and road names 😬)

I'm a kinder egg toy genius, can put most toys together one handed while managing a toddler having a tantrum

I'm good at reading and following written instructions especially when they are very specific, which makes me a much better baker than chef IYSWIM

I'm brilliant in a pub quiz (except for sport) as I'm a good team player and have a good memory for trivia (rubbish at remembering things in the rest of life though)

I think I would have been much more successful in a less technical world, because a lot of my skills are made obsolete by technological advances.

Florissant · 04/02/2023 13:43

Baking, using chopsticks, sleeping and finding bargains on eBay.

StephanieandKate · 04/02/2023 13:43

I can always find the end of the sticky tape, and am an expert plastic sticker and tag remover. Also very good at untangling or unknotting things and have never met a jar I couldn't open

BeachBlondey · 04/02/2023 13:45

I'm brilliant with dogs. I usually have about 7 here. At feeding time, I can prepare all 7 different meals and feed them in minutes. They all have to eat alone (to avoid conflict) and I have trained them to all sit nicely until their name is called. They come forward when I say their name, and I place them in to one of 3 rooms to eat. Occasionally a chancer will try to ram the door when it isn't his turn, but I can block him with my leg (no contact), whilst allowing the right dog through the gap between my shins. Sounds easy, but it took me a while to master it!

BruceAndNosh · 04/02/2023 13:46

Sock-folding-in-pairs is apparently a skill that impresses my DH. 'What's that... thing... that you do that keeps socks together?'

It had never even occurred to me that people didn't pair socks that way.

Sherrystrull · 04/02/2023 13:49

Multi tasking. I get energised by completing several jobs simultaneously.

I also pull a great pint of beer without any waste.

bussteward · 04/02/2023 13:49

Parallel parking. Can’t reverse round a corner but I can parallel park like a champ.

Picking the correct size Tupperware or bowl or receptacle for leftovers so there’s no wasted space.

Making salad dressing.

Organising the Christmas fridge.

I write for a living, I'm good at it and I find it easy.

I'm very creative and can design and make things.

I've got an excellent memory.
