Let's be positive too - what simple thing are you totally excellent at?

I love the thread about stuff you cannot do (I can't draw, or spell broccoli) but wanted to flip it; so what random talent do you have that sets you apart?

I am excellent at untying knots - tightly pulled wet trainer laces? Not an issue. Tangled necklace chain? LEAD ME TO IT it's so satisfying.

I am also oddly skilled at doing random maths (percentages and fractions) and understanding the rules of English punctuation (when to use a semi-colon). That last one is my job tho tbf so it's just as well. Grin

What about you?

Typing.

I haven't had 'training' and I don't type correctly - some fingers are on the wrong keys. But I'm lightening fast and very accurate...just from years of practice of typing several long letters a day for work. I touch type and don't look at the keyboard. No idea on my technical speed but it's fast.

I can also hold a conversation whilst looking at the person and continuing to type (as long as my content is straightforward and I don't need much thought in it).

DH finds it fascinating that I can concentrate on both decently... sometimes we'll be talking about dinner casually but I'm still typing and HE'S the one who loses track of our conversation because he zones out watching me in amazement 😂

This is very impressive! I'd have typed random letters of gobbledegook or speak in grunts.

I'm a kinder egg toy genius, can put most toys together one handed while managing a toddler having a tantrum
@StephanieandKate that made me smile.

I've been told I'm great at comebacks. I'm good at arguing or debating, whichever way you look at it (a positive in my eyes). Strangely good at playing darts. Touch typing, the kind of speed where smoke comes off the keys.

I'm very good at understanding children who are learning how to talk. The child will say baaaa oo ga and their mum will have several attempts at decoding and child will shake their head, possibly get upset. Then I will say "oh yes you like the red crayon" and the child will nod and offer up further discussion on red crayon. I've had mums say, how do you do that? Maybe it's because all my DCs struggled to speak, so I've had to listen carefully.

Estimating timings. I can estimate how long it will take to get home/get somewhere within a couple of minutes based on the traffic.

I'm like a human sat nav!

I'm also really good a cutting perfect slices of cheese with a knife. 🧀

I am brilliant at remembering numbers or objective facts.
Absolutely terrible at remembering what somebody told me yesterday
Oh.. and terrible at small talk.

AWaferThinMint · 04/02/2023 16:52

I am amazing at 90s song lyrics and picture rounds at pub quizzes. (Although I never know names, but I can do a commentary on what they've been in, what sport they play etc etc until someone else gets the name)

I can do a brilliant impromptu speech. If required.

Excellent in a crisis but not a leader day to day.

Reading very quickly.

Beezknees · 04/02/2023 17:18

Handwriting. Mine is excellent. I won the prize for best handwriting every year at primary school, and at work if anything needs hand writing my boss asks me to do it.

SeaToSki · 04/02/2023 17:19

Im really good at speed reading, particularly scientific papers

People tell me Im really good at thinking up great parties/events and organizing them

I like to think Im good at getting small boys (4yrs to 10yrs) to do something they arent sure about, but am fully aware that there will be a small boy out there who will completely throw this for a loop!

agutrew · 04/02/2023 17:28

Touch typing really, really fast.

I'm good at cooking.

I am very very envious of this skill. I am the world's slowest reader. Don't know how I got a degree in literature ... so many books😅😅

yumscrumfatbum · 04/02/2023 17:45

I'm really good at fitting stuff in the too small freezer. I'm also pretty good at guessing what the time is. I also arrive on time at anywhere I am meant to be!

twistyizzy · 04/02/2023 17:46

Just found out today that I am seemingly very good at producing working gundogs! My first working dog that I've trained from scratch myself, first shoot today and she was foot perfect. Got lots of praise from gamekeeper and invited back for next season.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 04/02/2023 17:50

Superb jack of all trades. Know just enough about everything (except sports) to give the impression of profound wisdom.

Excellent at projecting an air of competence and control when it's all going to shit.

Amazing organiser.

Can switch to new tasks in seconds (ie tragically short attention span but this is a positive threadSmile

It’s an art. The world divides into those who can make perfect Yorkshire puddings (you) and those who make a tray of chewy frisbees.

I'm very good at talking to children, hosting birthday parties for those between 3 and 10, making puppets say silly things and reading stories aloud.

Guess that's why I'm a Year

Making people feel better about themselves. I take great pleasure in passing on a bit of positivity and a different way of looking at a situation.

My job involves investigation, which I absolutely love doing and I'm brilliant at that.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 04/02/2023 18:23

I've got an amazing sense of direction. Never get lost. Can somehow 'see' the route clearly in my head and even if a road is closed I can do a detour and get where I need to go.
