Let's be positive too - what simple thing are you totally excellent at?

I love the thread about stuff you cannot do (I can't draw, or spell broccoli) but wanted to flip it; so what random talent do you have that sets you apart?

I am excellent at untying knots - tightly pulled wet trainer laces? Not an issue. Tangled necklace chain? LEAD ME TO IT it's so satisfying.

I am also oddly skilled at doing random maths (percentages and fractions) and understanding the rules of English punctuation (when to use a semi-colon). That last one is my job tho tbf so it's just as well. Grin

What about you?

Even both the interested parties have noticed that should say!

verdantverdure · 04/02/2023 15:05

Fridge and freezer Jenga. I can always fit it all in sensibly.

Dogs generally do what I tell them, and lost and frightened dogs come and clamp themselves to me. Lost children too.

Feeding the faces of folk. However many we've got unexpectedly I can usually cobble something together.

Colour coordination

Being objective and logical

Logistics, efficiency, route planning type things

IHeartGeneHunt · 04/02/2023 15:05

I make a lovely sponge cake
I can guess the time within two or three minutes either way without having seen a clock for hours
I'm very good at making stuff out of old wood.

Matching colour form memory. I used to fascinate a local fabric shop owner with this trick - pile 2 or 3 rolls of fabric on the counter to be cut, saunter to other end of shop and pick out the exact shades of thread needed, fabric still on counter no colour refrerences needed.

Also know the exact time I will arrive on a journey, when people say 'what time will you arrive?' I say x minutes and invariably I'm spot on.

wishihadagoodone · 04/02/2023 15:11

Flat pack!
I find it really therapeutic to do. I can look at odd diagrams and just know how to put it together.
I'm super speedy at it too!

CMOTDibbler · 04/02/2023 15:11

Finding my way around, having been somewhere once. I'm off to a city next week that I've been to 3 times, the last 3 years ago and always at least a year between visits but usually more - and I can mentally see my way from one place to another

garlictwist · 04/02/2023 15:11

I genuinely can't think of anything Blush

brianixon · 04/02/2023 15:12

I have been able to drive anything I was given.
Motorbikes and off-road, cars, vans small trucks. Park and reverse them.
I can sail a boat, dinghy or yacht, power boat (RIB) or cabin type. Sail and moor them or rescue someone.

ToddlerTerror · 04/02/2023 15:12

I'm a human ruler. I can tell you exactly how big something is in cm just from looking at it.
Also, if someone asks how big something is e.g 56cm for example I can show them almost exactly just by holding my hands at the right width apart.
Normally an utterly useless talent but great when shopping in IKEA.

thestringcheesemassacre · 04/02/2023 15:13

Gravy. I can make all types to suit the different thicker thinner tastes of my family.

FrownPrincess · 04/02/2023 15:15

I’m also good at untying knots, and especially at unraveling tangled wool.

I knit nice socks.

I’m really good at packing a suitcase and getting it to the exact weight limit.

Anonmousse · 04/02/2023 15:18

I'm pretty good at unravelling chains (but that is -admittedly a very small - part of my job!)
I'm good at mental arithmetic
And I make really good millionaire shortbread

Shunkleisshiny · 04/02/2023 15:22

I can whistle a tune perfectly, and I can also 'wolf whistle'
I taught my sister, son, and my three nieces how to whistle like this.

Curtainpoles · 04/02/2023 15:25

It's a work thing, but I am REALLY good at newborn baby blood tests. Always get a great sample.

inventinglouise · 04/02/2023 15:26

Cat petter extraordinaire

MobyJeff · 04/02/2023 15:33

Excellent at spelling, punctuation and grammar (you just know there’s going to be an error in this post, now!)

Also, when I wake during the night, I know instantly what time it is to within 10 minutes or so.

Finally, I am an excellent cook but a terrible baker. Cannot follow a recipe to save my life, but can recreate anything I’ve had in a restaurant or read about in an article.

Me too! This is my only great talent. Completely useless atm sadly though, at least until childcare stops draining all our travel money away.

Timeturnerplease · 04/02/2023 15:39

Oh yes and speed reading. I read insanely fast and can take it all in too. Comes in very handy as a teacher.

Cat petter extraordinaire

Now that's a talent worth having! (I love cats.)

Anotherusernamethisweek · 04/02/2023 15:53

I am an eggcellent omelette maker.

And I can make an awesome excel spreadsheet 😊

TeamadIshbel · 04/02/2023 15:59

I have an oddly good memory for detail long term. Can't remember what I did yesterday, short term awful (attention issues).

I am a really good dancer!

I have amazing hand eye co-ordination and can catch anything thrown at me unexpectedly across a room. I can't play racquet sports!

I am good at cooking.

Elodie09 · 04/02/2023 16:01

I am another really good untangler, necklaces, string, wool and I'm so patient with it, unlike I am with other things.
I can also juggle, only 3 balls but I am good at it.

MadeInChorley · 04/02/2023 16:09

Standing on one leg. I have excellent balance and core so can do it for ages without a wobble. DH laughs at me but has toppled within 10 seconds.

I’m very good at standing up and public speaking and also reading aloud. Stories, readings at events, narrator in plays and giving off the cuff speeches. Despite attending many family and good friends’ weddings, I’ve never been a bridesmaid. If I am asked to do a role, I am always giving the speech or doing the reading or MC duties. I’m now too old for the frilly frock.

Sprogonthetyne · 04/02/2023 16:14

Folding tents, sunshades, folding chairs etc, so they fit back in the bag perfectly.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/02/2023 16:23

Watching television - I can do it for hours without a break.
Spelking long words.
