I have a favourite coat hanger..

I realised as I was putting the clothes up to dry I have a favourite coat hanger. I have had it since I lived at home, and used to play with it as I could hold the metal hook and spin the brown plastic body at a perfect speed so it kept going and going. I remember specifically keeping that hanger just so I could play with it.

Years on, I brought it with me as an adult and, at 36, realise how absolutely bizarre it is that I like that coat hanger so much 😂😂

does anyone else favour or enjoy a particularly odd thing or household item? Please say I am
not the only crazy one…!

The only thing I can think of is a teaspoon. I have one that a colleague gave to me when she was leaving and clearing out her desk. It's got a nice shape and weight to it, plus it's very shiny. I took it home with me and definitely favour this teaspoon over all the others we have. I also really miss the person who gave it to me, and it makes me smile when I use it because it makes me think of her and the laughs we had at work.

I have loads of favourite kitchen things....there is definitely a hierarchy in my odd collection of mugs, particularly for guests 😁

AffIt · 29/01/2023 00:21

Back in the day when I worked in an office and not purely FH, I had a favourite toilet cubicle.

I was most put out if I went to the loo and that cubicle was taken: -1000 points if the seat was warm.

@empireemmy I'm right handed, my favourite is bottom left. However, it's bigger than the right hand one, it also gives me more 'wing room' than the right one as the Hobbs are quite near a worktop on the right - confused yet?!?!

Bluevelvetsofa · 30/01/2023 15:36

My hob spot is front right. I’m left handed.

I have soup spoons that were my mother’s and only I use them, but for cereal and yogurt with fruit, but not soup.

I have a special mug for the first coffee of the day and it must be used for anything else or at any other time.

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2023 15:55

Bottom left for me too on the hob.
Although I have a middle one now that's also good , but tends to cook too fast

I have a favourite spoon that doesn't match the other cutlery, think it came home from work in my lunchbox sometime.

There's another spoon that's very similar but not quite the same as my favourite. I call him The Imposter. I'll use him if my favourite isn't clean, but never the spoons from the proper cutlery set.

Spanielsarepainless · 30/01/2023 16:10

DH has a favourite butter knife.

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2023 16:12

My late fil had a favorite plate for his fish n chip supper. We get attached to things so easily is humans

ACurlyWurlyTail · 30/01/2023 16:13

I have a potato masher. it is about 40 years old and was my nans. She and DM both had one and I used to look high and low for one the same. When nan passed I got the masher..... it is perfection, right weight, right hole size (ugly) and it is my favourite thing in my brand new shiny kitchen

FaveCush · 30/01/2023 16:13

I have a cushion that I hug to sleep every night, it gets tucked up under my chin to keep my mouth shut (eliminating ingestion of insects, dry mouth and snoring). It's called Pildie, but is a bit like Triggers broom in that it's had a couple of pad and cover changes over the years. Recently it has got a new bed mate called Biggus Pinkus who I feel compelled to pat and say goodnight to even though it gets shoved out of the way (guilt).

I live alone 🤔

SuspiciousDuck · 30/01/2023 16:16

Favourite crockery, for sure.

But I also have a favourite lift at work. Lift E is great, it’s friendly, efficient and means the day is off to a good start. Lift F is a miserable bastard and I hate getting in it.

They are of course identical.

CornedBeef451 · 30/01/2023 16:24

I have a favourite mid sized spoon for yoghurt. Bigger than a teaspoon but much smaller than a dessert spoon.

I think it's an IKEA kids spoon so it's probably 13 years old.

Theraffarian · 30/01/2023 16:46

Favourite hob , back right. Definitely a favourite mug , because tea just tastes better in it and it stays at the right temperature. At Christmas we have some special plates , and they get rotated for my lunch as I don’t want them to think I have a favourite as they only come out for 4 weeks of the year .

AFingerofFudge · 30/01/2023 16:48

My MIL is lovely, we get on very well, but (in my mind) she was nearly cast out of the house when visiting for making me a cup of tea in the wrong mug. Yes it's hanging up, yes it can be used, but it feels wrong in my hand.

I have a favourite wooden spoon, it's perfect in every way. I've had it for so long that it's worn down on one side.
I'll be heartbroken if anything happens to it. I know that is a bit melodramatic but it's an amazing spoon.

Me too

And a wooden spatula

I'm old...

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2023 18:31

A celebrity ( whose name escapes me ) once said on a chat show that he would rescue his old Rugby socks from the 1950s if there was a fire as they meant so much to him!

SnappyDragony · 30/01/2023 18:55

I have a favorite fingernail....it is my left index nail. It just grows perfectly, straight and lovely. Most of my other nails grow OK. Bit wonky or lop sided. One is attached to a finger who's tip was badly broken many years ago and is a monstrosity.
However it is always the nail I chop off with a knife. Surprised it still even grows to be fair.

ScarletWitchM · 30/01/2023 19:31

I have a favourite hob (front left like some others - mostly as it’s the biggest!) a favourite fork, but also have a fork that I hate and will never use (it has long flat prongs 😂) and I have a favourite knife and only use that one knife for all chopping/ cooking even though I have a drawer full of other knifes

Theraffarian · 30/01/2023 21:21

Oh yes , I forgot my favourite knife , I actually have a spare identical boxed version of favourite knife in case he ever breaks , but I’m still unsure if he will be exactly as perfect if ever called into duty !

I have a favourite fork. It’s the only one of its type in the house. Everything about it is perfect - the weight, the feel, the length of the tines. No-one else dares use it.

YouveGotRedOnYou1 · 30/01/2023 21:49

So sweet to have a favourite coat hanger @whomoon 💜 It makes me wonder which items (if any) my children will be drawn to and carry through life.

Right handed and it's left one at the back for me. I can't think of any favourite things I have other than the revered hob ring. I get upset if DH made porridge on it and it has not so easy spills to clean.
