Two weeks, somewhere hot and not too far, where would you go in February?

Just that... I've been ill and realise that I'll recuperate best if I have a couple of weeks in the sun, just relaxing, swimming, reading, perhaps some gentle walking.

Where would you go? As a solo traveller - somewhere middle range or reasonable value?

Canary Islands?

Newusernameaug · 26/01/2023 14:04

Canaries

BlueKaftan · 26/01/2023 14:05

Only option is the Canaries?

lissie123 · 26/01/2023 14:06

Madeira

LookinUp · 26/01/2023 14:07

I don’t think the Canaries are that hot in Feb. Certainly not guaranteed. Might get 20 degrees if you’re lucky.

BarrelOfOtters · 26/01/2023 14:08

Malaga if you want to see a bit and travel round. There are places to easily reach by trains. It's a very walkable city. Lovely places to stay with terraces and balconies. You can get in from the airport easily.

If you want to relax and sit on a beach then Canaries probably better.

Blondeissimo · 26/01/2023 14:09

Madeira for sure. Great climate at this time of year and really easy to explore. The scenery is gorgeous.

BarrelOfOtters · 26/01/2023 14:09

Madeira is average of 18 in February can be cooler. Not swimmable.....

Allmarbleslost · 26/01/2023 14:09

I think you'd have to go further afield in February op. Caribbean?

runwithme · 26/01/2023 14:10

Essaouira?

MissyB1 · 26/01/2023 14:11

You aren’t going to get anywhere on a short haul flight I don’t think. And also I’ve been to Mexico in February and it was very varied weather, some days too windy for the beach and some days pouring rain.

Hoppinggreen · 26/01/2023 14:12

Cape Verde?
5 hour flight, not a lot to do when you get there but good for chilling.
Pick a smaller AI hotel on Sal such as Melia Tortuga

twoastars · 26/01/2023 14:19

Dubai

Totalwasteofpaper · 26/01/2023 14:22

I couldnt face dubai so we are looking into southern morocco - the coast near agadir

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 26/01/2023 14:23

I go to Lanzarote most years in Feb and it's always been mid 20s most days, not dropping below 20 at all.

twilightcafe · 26/01/2023 14:24

Barbados. Guaranteed sunshine this time of year.
I know you said you wanted not too far, but it's an eight hour flight and all you have to do on the plane is eat, sleep and rest. Leave the UK at 10am. You'll be on the beach with a cocktail in your hand by teatime (UK time)

I have family in Malaga, it's most certainly not warm in February, in fact it's currently around 2 degrees

MarkWithaC · 26/01/2023 14:26

I'd suggest Morocco.

It can be cooler but I go every year, in Feb, and we usually see 21-24° which is really nice.

loveyouradvice · 26/01/2023 14:33

Gosh lots of gorgeous options... bit worried Canaries not warm enough... not sure I have the budget for Barbados....

Anyone any thoughts about Egypt?

And great if you name somewhere, do share where you love to go and why!

Thanks everyone.

Dubai. Have a look on the Emirates website for an idea of prices.

mightbeintangiers · 26/01/2023 14:37

Egypt is perfect. We went there over New Year and it was up to 28 in the day, normally around 24. There are lots of nice all inclusives in Sharm, or you can go to Dahab if you want something more independent. It's the nearest proper warmth in the winter.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 26/01/2023 14:37

We used to go to the Canaries in January when I was little. It was always warm and swimmable, even though the locals were wearing fur coats.

My parents had a lovely winter break in Luxor.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 26/01/2023 14:39

Egypt beach?

shinynewapple22 · 26/01/2023 14:43

@Cigarettesaftersex1
That would be unusually cold even for a night time temperature in Malaga. Weather App has it at 14' and sunny this afternoon. Certainly the weather in Southern Spain is variable at this time of year and I wouldn't expect to go swimming but I would expect to be able to walk around in a T shirt during the afternoon - at least part of the time I am away. Was sunbathing in shorts and a vest a little way down the coast last February.
