Two weeks, somewhere hot and not too far, where would you go in February?

Just that... I've been ill and realise that I'll recuperate best if I have a couple of weeks in the sun, just relaxing, swimming, reading, perhaps some gentle walking.

Where would you go? As a solo traveller - somewhere middle range or reasonable value?

Sevilla

DJSteves · 26/01/2023 18:10

Middle East in Feb I wear a coat. It's pleasant but not hot

HashBrownandBeans · 26/01/2023 18:11

Cape Verde, it’s 28 degrees all year round, about 5 hours away

Cornelious2011 · 26/01/2023 18:12

Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria. I believe it's the warmest of all the resorts in the canaries. We're going in March time and have been before at that time and it's been low to mid 20's.

Hobbesmanc · 26/01/2023 18:15

Thailand is doable in budget for 12 to 14 nights bed and breakfast. It is a long flight but plan for it and it's really going to be worth it. Phuket will be almost perfect weather in feb. Sea will be balmy and there's loads of choice for food and drink if you chose wisely. Do a bit of research, avoid the back Packer hangouts.

There's absolutely no comparison with Egypt or Middle East. It's a beautiful country with culture and wonderful people.

Twospaniels · 26/01/2023 19:03

We usually go to Lanzarote in Feb or early March and it’s plenty warm enough for swimming etc, although you might want a cardigan or light jacket in the evening. We are going in 2 wks time and at the moment the forecast is 21 / 22 deg
Plenty to see, some nice walks too

loveyouradvice · 26/01/2023 19:11

Such great suggestions - I am getting excited!

We’ve just had a week in Tenerife and sat by the pool in a swimming costume. Was about 22 degrees. You need to go to the South West to get the best weather

I used to live in Granada which is one of the hottest parts of Spain. I really wouldn't go to Spain for good weather in February- I had to wear a coat in February when i lived there. I think you are going to have to go a reasonable distance for hot weather in February

I think Granada is at a high altitude - we've been there in the winter and yes it was very cold first thing and when the sun goes down . It's a lot colder than on the coast.

I think we may all have different thresholds when it comes to describing weather suitable for sunbathing. My ideal weather is in the early 20s and I've definitely experienced that as an afternoon temperature on the coast near Malaga during the winter .

Cape Town is beautiful in February and very warm. 11 hour flight but only a 2 hour time difference at this time of year..

loveyouradvice · 26/01/2023 22:20

Hmmm... cape town appealing but feels too far for just two weeks.... but Ill take a look!

Any other thoughts on Egypt and where you've enjoyed?

Dubai. Great for a solo woman traveller, fabulous weather at this time of year. Not massively cheap though

We are going to South Africa in March for two weeks, it’s fine. No jet lag. Although having been a few times now I wouldn’t personally go alone.

Seville is not hot in February. In fact, right now there's a cold snap. Minimum temperature of 1. High of about 15.

Not guaranteed I know but DH got a red forehead in Seville one February when eating lunch outside.
We have a property about an hour away and often go in Feb, I personally don’t swim in the sea then but the DC do in wetsuits and I usually dip my toes in.

Bullshot · 27/01/2023 17:22

We used to go to the canaries every Feb half term when DS was in school. Mostly had very pleasant weather - low 20s which is just right for me. There was the occasional rainstorm or windy period but overall we were happy to be able to relax in shorts and T-shirts. No sea swimming - I think it’s always chilly even in summer.

id feel totally safe visiting any island and resort alone as a female traveller. I wouldn’t consider doing the same to Egypt or Dubai etc

Bullshot · 27/01/2023 17:25

I like Puerto La Cruz in the north of Tenerife. It’s quiet and feels safe - with many non touristy restaurants and bars also . Bus service on Tenerife is great too to get around - I’ve spent hours shopping and wandering around in the capital of Santa Cruz.

DashingWhiteSergeant · 27/01/2023 17:29

I’m currently in Lanzarote, been 20-22 all week.

Yes, friends visited me here in February and caught the sun one year. The sun is strong and you can get sunburned in February in Seville if you are out and about all day, but it's not hot. Pleasant temperatures but not sandals weather. And cold once the sun goes down.

BIWI · 27/01/2023 17:31

What's your actual budget though? There are some good value places in Barbados - it's a lovely island too and the weather should be perfect for you

TheFairyCaravan · 27/01/2023 17:31

I’d go to La Palma.

The La Palma & Teneguia Princess is a beautiful hotel which has 7 swimming pools, one of which is heated in the winter months. The grounds are beautiful to wander around too. It’s such a calming, relaxing place to go.

Yarrawonga · 27/01/2023 17:37

What temperature is “hot” for you OP?

Most of the suggestions so far would barely register on my “vaguely warm” scale.

superdupernova · 27/01/2023 17:45

I love Egypt. Marsa Alam is a bit further south than other resorts but if you like snorkelling or diving it's brilliant. The reefs aren't damaged like the ones I saw in Sharm el Sheikh and there are lots of fully grown fish. Highlights being the 1 metre long puffer fish and a huge octopus (both well below me). I stayed at the Steingenberger hotel which was adults only. The food was brilliant. If you turned up at the beach area and there were no sun beds they'd just get one out for you. I skipped breakfast and went straight to the beach in the morning, after my second day the servers started bringing me a latte before I'd had the chance to ask. You can walk into the sea then turn left and start snorkelling just a few metres away for free.

GoodbyeMrChips · 27/01/2023 17:51

I wouldn’t go to Egypt as a single woman either, unless I wanted to staff in a hotel for a fortnight.

I had a glorious 2 weeks in Kerala, I think it was a 12 hour flight though. Lovely warm air and sea, gorgeous people, amazing food. I felt very safe as a woman there. Flights were pricey but I rented a simple room and ate out cheaply. It was magical.

Freetodowhatiwant · 27/01/2023 17:54

If I had two weeks I would say sod the distance and go to Thailand. White sands, azure seas, beautiful.
