Two weeks, somewhere hot and not too far, where would you go in February?

Just that... I've been ill and realise that I'll recuperate best if I have a couple of weeks in the sun, just relaxing, swimming, reading, perhaps some gentle walking.

Where would you go? As a solo traveller - somewhere middle range or reasonable value?

I have family in Malaga, it's most certainly not warm in February, in fact it's currently around 2 degrees

BBC weather says highs of 14. That’s not hot but its a far way from 2.

hellswelshy · 26/01/2023 14:46

I'm going to Gran Canaria next week op, and forecast shows it around 22 degrees which is perfect for me, might that suit you? Hope you get a break somewhere nice!

quicklybeendrivenmad · 26/01/2023 14:49

Depending on where you are in the uk for flights, Reef Oasis Blue Bay and Spa Sharm el Sheikh or Premier Le Reve in Hurghada and both really good hotels and I have met loads of solo travellers at both.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 26/01/2023 14:51

Both have a number of Al a Cartes and different pools as well as the beach, if you want anymore information feel free to pm me, we have been to both several times

KangarooKenny · 26/01/2023 14:53

Fuerteventura

GiantKitten · 26/01/2023 14:57

We went to Marrakech/Essaouira in Feb and it was COLD.
Madeira last week of Jan was mild and pleasant, but not reliable pool/beach weather.
Caribbean sounds like the best idea! DD1 (who lives in NYC) just had a long weekend in Puerto Rico and the weather was perfect - not that PR is generally a holiday destination from here, but same general weather.

GiantKitten · 26/01/2023 14:59

(But if you’re not set on swimming, Madeira would be perfect for everything else)

Insaneinthemembraneee · 26/01/2023 15:03

I'm in Puerto Rico in the Canary Islands at the minute and it's ridiculously hot 🥵 27/28/29° daily.
I've had to come back to my apartment today; I can't hack the heat.
I'd 100% recommend canaries if you're wanting winter sun ☀️

Clymene · 26/01/2023 15:12

Every time I've been to the canaries in February it's been really hot

BarrelOfOtters · 26/01/2023 15:28

@Cigarettesaftersex1 I've spent quite a few very pleasant January's in Malaga, colder at night certainly, but in the early 20s in the day - so not hot, hot no....

But take your point.

Sucessinthenewyear · 26/01/2023 14:46

Ah OK, my uncle has posted today that it's freezing there (a little inland from Malaga) and 2 degrees.

Still, 14 degrees isn't what I'd call warm either!

loveyouradvice · 26/01/2023 15:47

Mmmmm.... Egypt sounds more and more desirable... Swimming every day is very important to me - probably twice a day!

Anyone else been there and up for sharing experiences? Somewhere good to stay that's not too pricey and where I will feel comfortable as a solo traveller

emmathedilemma · 26/01/2023 15:52

I wouldn't go to Egypt as a solo female traveller unless you're literally going to sit in a resort the entire time.

sunseaandme · 26/01/2023 15:57

Puerto del carmen lanzarote is lovely x

exLtEveDallas · 26/01/2023 15:59

Id definitely say Egypt fits the bill, but how much are you willing to spend?

Makadi Bay in Hurghada is lovely and very safe. Not been as a solo traveller, but have walked around it a lot on my own when there with family and never had any issues.

It’s a smaller, gated and secure complex of around 20-30 hotels and shops etc, about 40 mins outside Hurgahada.

favourite hotel is Jaz Makadi Saraya, but tbh any of the Jaz hotels would be good, they are all very well run.

mightbeintangiers · 26/01/2023 16:02

My friend just stayed in Dahab on her own and had a great time. If you prefer a resort, the Sunrise chain are nice

snowsilver · 26/01/2023 16:15

I'm going to Lanzarote early February. I've been ill and thought I'd have to cancel but I'm recovering now and looking forward to a gentle week of sun and relaxation.
I've been to the Canaries many times in winter. It's a blast of sun in the darkest monthjs and I love it. Don't expect it to be like the Med in July though.
It's not guaranteed hot sunshine but you can expect warm sunny days in low 20s and cool evenings. If you get cloud or rain it's likely to be sunny an hour later.
Choose a hotel with a heated pool and an indoor pool.

gourmetperle · 26/01/2023 16:39

I used to live in Granada which is one of the hottest parts of Spain. I really wouldn't go to Spain for good weather in February- I had to wear a coat in February when i lived there. I think you are going to have to go a reasonable distance for hot weather in February

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 26/01/2023 17:36

We went to Marbella last February half term. It was warm and sunny, but not sunbathing hot. It was cold up in the hills just inland.

Happygone · 26/01/2023 17:39

The sea is too cold for me in the canaries and I would need a properly heated pool too. They're artic otherwise.

I didn't like Egypt or Cape Verde. I quite fancy Oman if that's an option for you.

@Cigarettesaftersex1
That would be unusually cold even for a night time temperature in Malaga. Weather App has it at 14' and sunny this afternoon. Certainly the weather in Southern Spain is variable at this time of year and I wouldn't expect to go swimming but I would expect to be able to walk around in a T shirt during the afternoon - at least part of the time I am away. Was sunbathing in shorts and a vest a little way down the coast last February.

I am near Cadiz at the moment and have been for a few weeks, the weather is good but the temperature has come down from around 19-20 to 15 or so. Still lovely in the sun but not for sea swimming. (Although you do see the odd person in the sea).
in previous years we've had temps of 20-22 at this time of year. And it is beautifully light, until 7 pm now.
North Africa might be bIt warmer - Tunisia?

PrincessofWellies · 26/01/2023 17:49

I'm in Ecuador at the minute and it's 32 with high humidity.

The canaries are a pretty good bet in the winter, I've spent a lot of time there but only in the winter, its around 20-25 normally.

LiftyLift · 26/01/2023 17:56

I have been to Egypt a couple of times with work and with DH. Amazing sea swimming and snorkelling with a beautiful display of coral and fish right near the coast depending on hotel.

I second a PP about not going solo out of the hotel complex though. The men there can be aggressive and touch you, particularly at markets and busy places. Wearing a headscarf and modest clothing is helpful to avoid this.
