Can you remember old phone numbers?!

Just thinking to myself about this.

I can remember the following numbers

My grandma's home phone number..she died 15 years ago

My father's office phone number....he retired in the 1990s!

My best friends home phone number...I think I last called that number in the 1990s

My ex boyfriends mobile number...we split up in 2003!

Isn't it funny how the mind keeps these things in our head. Do you remember old phone numbers you haven't used for decades?!

I can remember land line numbers from my childhood.
I can’t remember any mobile numbers.
I can’t tell people my own mobile number, I’ve had this number for over 8 years.

‘Hello, Witney 79320’

Yes, I can remember several phone numbers from the 70s and 80s, but really struggle to remember any mobile phone numbers.
I can't even remember dh's which he must have had for over 20 years and which I have written out on dozens upon dozens of emergency contact forms for all the dc over the years.
I really want to memorise at least one out of my dc or my dh's numbers in case I was ever in an emergency and had lost or broken or had my phone stolen. I just really struggle to retain them.

I have all the phone numbers of my school friends parents landlines indelibly inked in my mind. I used to think it was utterly useless until I realised I could use them whenever I need a 5 or 6 digit passcode.

I feel this is likely to be the pinnacle of my life hack contribution.

You're welcome.

I can still hear my lovely grandad saying their number when he picked up the phone. Always took on a very well spoken clipped tone when he said it! ❤️

I had a moped when I was 16 (many did round here). C55 BUA

Still need to check the reg of our current car .

TokyoSushi · 02/02/2024 15:43

The 6 digits from the phone number of my first job in 1998 are still my passcode for a lot of things!

Josette77 · 02/02/2024 15:45

I remember 6 of them from the 80's.

I was moved around a lot before I was 12 and those I remember..

Between 12-17 my adopted father had 6 different homes and 3 different "families". I only remember one phone number from that time period.

Fifthtimelucky · 03/02/2024 22:39

I can remember quite a few phone numbers from the 1970s as well as the number we had in the house I lived in until 1967 (mind you it only had four digits)!

I don't know any now except my mobile number and our old landline number (which we gave up recently). I have no idea what my husband's number is or my children's!

FijiSea · 03/02/2024 22:41

Yes , I still remember mine and my friends old phone numbers ( only 6 numbers back then ) as we all used to ring each other to arrange dates / meet ups etc.
Also old enough to remember the cringe factor of parrots answering and listening in

FijiSea · 03/02/2024 22:42

*parents not parrots

TonTonMacoute · 03/02/2024 22:43

The first phone number I remember was Popes Grove 2482, later Popes Grove changed into 892.

Firstleftpastthetree · 03/02/2024 22:47

Yes childhood number from the 70s (2327!)

Caswallonthefox · 03/02/2024 23:42

I can remember my childhood landline number. I can remember when it went from 4 digits to 6 digits. I can remember my grandads landlines from 1989.
I can remember every car number plate we had from EEX784T to DAH99Y, after that it was harder.
The most annoying is knowing my ex husbands NI number, I haven't been with him for 15 years.
