Can you remember old phone numbers?!

Just thinking to myself about this.

I can remember the following numbers

My grandma's home phone number..she died 15 years ago

My father's office phone number....he retired in the 1990s!

My best friends home phone number...I think I last called that number in the 1990s

My ex boyfriends mobile number...we split up in 2003!

Isn't it funny how the mind keeps these things in our head. Do you remember old phone numbers you haven't used for decades?!

@lyson oh put me out of my misery for that number please....
I'm thinking a radio station? A catchy jingle?

I remember lots of childhood numbers.
I even remember the number of the local pizza place.

I do not know my child’s phone number.

Penguinsista · 24/01/2023 16:12

My aunt's 3922

Needmorelego · 24/01/2023 16:16

@lyson oh 😳
My brain was thinking more along the lines of a radio advert for Autocar or something....

It is interesting by how much phone numbers have increased in length, over the decades. My parents moved into their in the late Forties and stayed there for the rest of their lives. My mother was then a midwife so we had a phone. This was before the days of STD and our number was Blean 53. By the time my mother died, about fifteen years ago it 01227 361953

Yep, I've got a "numbers brain" and can remember old phone numbers, account numbers, birthdays of everyone I was at school with etc, without trying. I've learned not to always let on though, as many people find it odd and don't believe it's effortless..ie assume I'm some kind of stalker, or that I spend my evenings swotting up...

newtb · 24/01/2023 16:45

The number my parents had before std came in in about 1970.

CrunchyCarrot · 24/01/2023 16:49

I remember my childhood and teen phone numbers, but precious little after that! Those were from 50-60 yrs ago!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 24/01/2023 17:50

I also remember many old schoolfriends' birthdays, @ItsNotReallyChaos . I often find myself wondering how they are celebrating, particularly if it's a big birthday. It's useful for getting other dates to stick in my head: 'Vet appointment 26 Feb - oh, that's the day before Sarah's birthday.'

crosspusscrossstitcher · 24/01/2023 18:14

Loads of Aunts and Uncles land line numbers, numbers for work, numbers from work, first mobile number.

I have no idea what my current mobile number is - I never ring it! 🤦‍♀️

Roselilly36 · 24/01/2023 18:27

Yes, I remember all the landline numbers that I used to dial, but other than DH’s mobile number, that he has had for 25 years or so, the rest are in my phone so no need to remember.

purpledalmation · 24/01/2023 18:42

No, the minute I have a new phone the old number is gone.

I'm like Homer Simpson. New information shoves old information out of my memory bank.

barbrahunter · 24/01/2023 18:47

I remember my home phone number from when I was a kid, my first boyfriend's phone number from 1976 and my best friend's number from 1973.

WigglyGlowWorm · 24/01/2023 18:56

Yes. My childhood phone number is my login for my mobile. Also, DH was amazed when I remembered his home phone number from when we were first together 26 years ago 😆

evtheria · 24/01/2023 19:00

I can remember my best friend's one, but that's it.

evtheria · 24/01/2023 19:01

*Sorry, should clarify this would have been my best friend from primary. Still in touch but I wonder who if the number still exists for someone!

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2023 19:03

MrWhippersnapper · 24/01/2023 19:03

MrWhippersnapper · 24/01/2023 19:04

I can remember old car registrations too

RaininSummer · 24/01/2023 19:05

Yes. Still remember my first real boyfriend's number which was last dialled around 1982.

larchforest · 24/01/2023 19:06

I left my job in a bank in 1985, and I can still remember the bank account numbers of some of the business customers.

I have a very good memory for numbers, I can remember the number plate of every car I've owned since 1998 and still remember the number of the first phone my parents had which changed when I was 7. There are numbers I have a mental block with though, have been with dh for 24 years and still can never remember whether MIL's birthday is the 26th or 27th. I am autistic and often wonder whether this is a factor for me in retaining numbers

Me too, I have a great memory for phone numbers from several decades ago.
Car number plates and dates too: birthdays, anniversaries of things eg. it was 30 years ago today that I did XXX.

(The autistic hypothesis is interesting; I'm not diagnosed but do have it in the family and definitely have some traits).

Whatever it is and wherever it's from, it's quite useful for creating passwords I won't forget!
