We are currently sitting in the dark with just our iPads. Is any one else joining in the Power Off. Also does anyone understand how the payments are calculated.?

I think it's a good thing if you can because who doesn't like making a bit of money 🤷‍♀️
But I've got autistic children who need their tea at certain times,tv schedules to stay the same and they strip to underwear after a stressful day at school (sensory overload) so my heating has to be blasting as normal.
So it wouldn't work i this house for sure 🤣

It's a shame British Gas are not directing their resources to answering the phone so I can find out if I am still on economy 7 or not.

Yarrawonga · 24/01/2023 10:56

Can’t you just look at your last bill? It will will show what unit rate you have been billed for day and night usage.

Ciri · 24/01/2023 11:08

or log on to your BG account. That will also show you

@Yarrawonga @Ciri
My last bill was August, my meter is a SMETS1 economy 7 meter, got connected to DCC in October, on IHD is single rate around 33p so not economy 7, online they have still had estimated day and night readings though for economy 7, this was in December. There are no usage figures online, BG say there are no readings, I have tried to contact them but given up now as a bill will surely be generated sometime as I have not had one since August.

Last bill in August was economy 7 as it always has been but old smart meter wasn't connected then(dumb) so I just gave regular day and night readings. Problems all started when smart meter connected, I was going to have a new smart gas meter but cancelled it because of the electric meter problems and lack of being able to contact them. It's a good job I am not in financial hardship as this sort of situation would be very worrying with the current price of energy

I am a bit pissed off that they can send emails out about trivial things like the switching off to favoured customers but cannot even inform me about my meter being connected and be clear about what tariffs I am on

Further to the above the only way I found out about my smart meter being connected was when I tried to give an electric meter reading and it said I had a smart meter so I checked myself on the Citizens Advice page about connections and lo and behold it was connected, an email from British Gas would have been nice at this stage. Once I get my bill I shall try and find another supplier because it just isn't good enough. Obviously from this thread BG have favoured customers who they bend over backwards to please and no information at all for other customers of theirs

It will be different departments doing it though. We had this with a water leak.

I was getting rather aggressive letters from the metering team about fixing it all while I was in contact with the leak department who where back and forth trying to locate it.

left hand wasn’t talking to right hand. Left hand also wasn’t answering the phones but right hand where.

As I understand it you need to have signed up to do it.
Most energy companies are taking part in some way but you need to have a smart meter to sign up.
Each company is doing it differently - some had a link to sign up to, some sent out email invitations to people they deemed eligible.

We are with E.ON and never received an email to opt in so currently not eligible.

Once signed up, if eligible, you should receive a notification via text the day before to tell you more about what to do and what times the following day.

@florentina1 Apparently you have to set your meter readings to be sent to Eon Next half-hourly, and opt in for marketing emails. Then you are invited. It was on the Moneysavingexpert website and it worked for me.

Sorry that was for @Abraxan
