So worried nasty bu

My 17 yr old DD sustained a very nasty wound to her knee last Wednesday requiring surgery to clean and close up the wound. On Friday we returned to ED due to the knee becoming infected. More surgery was done on Saturday with further surgery is booked for Monday. IV ABs have been given.

I have just found out (via google) that the particular bug that has caused the infection is multi-drug resistant. Her leg is oozing and it smells awful. She is vomiting but no temperature.

I'm usually pretty stoic but this has got me so very worried. I'm terrified she's going to loose her leg if the infection can't be controlled!

Don't know why I'm posting. Just need to get this off my chest.

Glad she is on the mend

DD has now been taken down to theatre for what will hopefully be the last surgery although the Orthopaedic Registrar said she may need a fifth surgery depending on what they find during this surgery. At this stage she will remain in hospital until next week for monitoring (to make sure the infection is truely under control) and to get her up and moving safely.

Poor kid has had four GAs in a week and with her lung condition that is probably not the best. She really has done amazingly well.

So glad to hear she's recovering well.

Last update for anyone interested.

4th surgery went well and the wound was closed so no need for further surgery at this stage but may still require a skin graft at a later date. She is mobilising with a ROM brace and crutches and we are now both at home having just been discharged. Still requiring ABs and will return to the Orthopaedic Outpatient clinic on Tuesday or Wednesday to have the wound checked.

Again, many thanks for all your well wishes.

Hi op , glad her latest one sounds very positive , best wishes to your daughter for a speedy recovery.

Your daughter has been through so much. She is amazing. (And so are you). Now you are both home get some rest.

@Mumdiva99

that is such a lovely thing to say - thank you. I don’t feel amazing. I feel and look a wreck. My hair needs a good wash and my left eye is swollen and red (which happens when I am tired and stressed). I am looking forward to a long hot shower and a good nights sleep.

Oh @hisroyalweiner poor you and DD! how about booking a wash and blow dry somewhere for a nice act of 'self care' as they call it?

hisroyalweiner · 27/01/2023 05:04

@MichelleScarn

that is a very good idea. I think I will do that😊

DH has had to go away for a short work trip that couldn’t be cancelled so when he gets back I will.
